What happened to my downloaded videos in iOS 10.2?

I updated to iOS 10.2 on my iPhone 6 and seem to have lost my downloaded videos.

Before I would go to the "Videos" app and look under the 'home videos' button but that's not there anymore. It's not in this new "TV" app either. I can't find any of the TV episodes either that I've downloaded from iTunes.

I plugged in my iPhone to my computer and tried to drag them from my iTunes into my iPhone but nothing happened. In iTunes I looked under Devices-IPhone-Movies, and the movies were listed there but I can't actually find them on my iPhone itself (when I used iTunes to look at my iPhone content, TV episodes and home movies that I've previously put on this iPhone now have a circle with an exclamation mark inside next to them).

If I had to just put my TV shows and downloaded home movies on this iPhone again, that would be mildly inconvenient/tedious but doable.

Can anyone help me get my TV shows I've purchased and my home movies back on my iPhone?

I just now figgered it out. I opened iTunes on my PC 64 bit Win 10 Pro

Went to my library. Under the "Movies" section there were no download videos. Under "Home Videos" all of my Videos were there. So as what was said in this forum I changed them to "Movies" The easiest way is to just do one first. Here's how. Right click on the Video then go down to "Get Info" When the next screen opens near the top of that screen in the center there is a tab that says "Options". Click on that. The next screen change the video type to "Movies" Then resync your iPhone / iPad If that works you and can go back to your home movies sceeen in iTunes and do Control A then change all of them at the same time. That worked perfectly for me. All of 150 downloaded videos are on my iPhone 5S. and my iPad Mini 2. If your Wifi is on your home sharing will work as well. Hope that helps

As for TV episodes purchased from the iTunes Store, I imagine you could simply re-download them. It's a pain, but it will probably work.

Home videos are another matter altogether. The TV app currently cannot accept video content synced from the iTunes app*, as either (1) iTunes itself needs an upgrade to understand that videos should be synced to the TV app instead of the Videos app, or (2) Apple has decided that you should not be able to sync video content from the iTunes app at all, only download from iTMS or stream from approved providers. Either of these is as likely as the other, though I would prefer to believe the former.

So if you want to put home videos on your iPhone, you'll want a third-party video player app like VLC.

*There was a way to have both the TV app and the Videos app installed at the same time, which allowed syncing and playback of home videos and other non-iTMS content. It seems that the Videos app is no longer available for installation through the App Store app, so once it's gone, it's gone. If you still have the Videos app, DON'T DELETE IT. As I learned, the hard way.

I had no choice about the Videos app being deleted. It was there when I had iOS 10.1.1 but when my upgrade to 10.2 was complete the Videos app was gone and only the TV app was there.

However, I seem to have got home videos back for now (for instance if I downloaded a video it would be in MP4 format and I would import it to iTunes and could play it that way on my home computer). I deleted the apparently corrupted copies in the movie section of my iPhone on iTunes and then copied it from my main iTunes home video section to my iPhone again.

For now that works apparently. When I launched the TV app earlier today there was nothing in the library section. However, now there is a listing of my home videos that I retransferred to my iPhone. The videos work for now. I would hope Apple wouldn't take away this ability to play home videos that we've had for years.

I am experiencing the same problem after updating to iOS 10.2, but only on my iPad. Since the update, my home videos are no longer visible on my iPad. None of those videos appear within the TV app as they are supposed to.

When I connected my iPad to my computer and used iTunes to view it, I could tell the home videos were still on the device (that is what iTunes was showing me). However, they did not appear within the TV app. It was pretty clear to me that the videos were actually still on the iPad, but it did not know where they were.

I literally spent hours working on this issue yesterday, which included reinstalling the app, restoring my iPad, etc - all with no success. I finally just installed the VLC app (free) on my iPad, and then by connecting the device to my computer and using iTunes was able to transfer home videos to VLC on my iPad for viewing.

The odd thing is that I have a home video on my iPhone, and the update to iOS 10.2 did not cause any problems. That video appears within the TV app.

This ultimately must be a bug, which hopefully Apple will resolve soon with an update. In the meantime, I suggest using the VLC app as an alternative.

I had my iPhone plugged into my computer. I opened iTunes on my computer which showed the iPhone.

I went into the iPhone section and deleted the non-working movies and TV shows from my iPhone section. Then I just put them from iTunes into my iPhone again. In other words I went to the TV show or movie in iTunes and then slid that onto iPhone.

... downloaded 10.2 today. I had the same problem. My TV shows were visible in the new TV app, but the icons were messed up and the files weren't playing. My Movie files were playing though.

Here's what worked for me:

- in iTunes, I selected 1 TV show, right click -> get info -> options and changed it from TV Show to Home Video

- sync'd the iPad

- I then selected that same TV Show that was moved to Home Video, right click -> get info -> options and changed to back to TV shows

- sync'd the iPad again

... and all my TV shows had the correct icons and played properly. Hope this helps someone.

I spent 70 minutes on the phone today with Apple Support. They knew nothing about this problem. The tech was surprised that the Videos app was replaced by the TV app. He had me do lots of things on my iPad, none of which fixed the problem. My videos synced from my Mac via iTunes (the latest macOS Sierra 10.12.2 version) just won't show on my iPad Pro although they do on my iPhone 6s Plus. They worked fine in iOS 10.1 with the Videos app. The tech finally gave up and wanted me to restore the iPad to factory default. I haven't yet done that. Since others are reporting the same problem I will call Apple again before I do anything more. My ticket is still open.

My iPhone with iOS 10.2 has my iTunes synced videos in the TV app, but NOT in the iMovie app. My iPad Pro with iOS 10.2 does NOT have my iTunes synced videos in the TV app nor in the iMovie app. What is Apple's official statement as to where videos synced via iTunes are to show up on iDevices? The AppleCare tech I spoke to on Thursday had no idea for iOS 10.2. I guess Apple wants to keep that a corporate secret.

I believe the problem is in iTunes. I am in the Public Beta program and the last Beta (Version 7) still had both the Videos app and the TV app. At that point the TV app had a heading for Home Videos and all of mine showed up and played correctly. When 10.2 was released to everyone, the Beta folks did not update because the final version was the same. Since the TV app now showed my Home Videos, I deleted the Videos app. At first, the Home Movies were still in the TV app, but when I checked it later, they were gone. I tried to use iTunes to resync the movies, but iTunes says it cannot sync any movies or TV shows without the Videos app on the phone....so the sync fails. And since the Videos app was removed from the app store, I am stuck. Until Apple updates iTunes (and the version released this week didn't fix it), I don't expect we can fix this. Again, we can always load the videos to VLC.

This was a feature existing in earlier beta builds of 10.2, but was removed for the final release.

Devices still at 10.1.1 (or below) will still have Videos available as a "Purchased" app.

I just confirmed that the Wi-Fi trick discovered by Tech Tsunami works!!!

With Wi-Fi OFF on the iPad I was able to resync videos from iTunes and they showed and played in the TV app on the iPad Pro. Turn Wi-Fi ON and the videos disappear. Wi-Fi OFF and they come back. Turn Cell Data ON and the videos disappear. Turn Cell Data OFF and the videos come back.

I called Apple Support this morning on my open ticket. This rep found the solution interesting. He had me try some additional troubleshooting, but the result was always the same: any network ON, no videos; network OFF, videos ok. He then transferred me to a senior advisor. She wanted me to do a restore to factory default and then redownload the TV app to see what happens. I'll do that later this weekend when she is back in the office.
