That support does nothing to resolve the issue. I have even taken my phone to the Apple store. They have fixed it only for the same issue to happen again the next day. This is ridiculous. Something that needs to be addressed.

I am having the same problem with my brand new iPhone 7 plus. People tell me they cannot hear me or that I sound like I am talking from a metal barrel. A friend of my called me from her new iPhone 7 plus the other day and I got to hear what all of my callers were experiencing. She also sounded like she was calling from inside of a metal barrel and her voice kept comming and going . So what is it with these new iPhones that they did not tell us about??
Just opened my new phone today had same issue with first calls I made but was able to find a solution, went to settings > Cellular > Celluar Data Options > Enable LTE, then switched it from voice and data to data only and that worked for me
The official answer is, "We know it's a problem with some devices and we're not going to replace your phone."
Mine is under warranty. Eventually I lost speakerphone too. The headphones don't work either.
Apple is aware. They're not going to solve the problem. You just bought a bad phone, luck of the draw. They actually told me that since they know it's a bug, they're not responsible for replacing the device.
Thanks so much. I tried all the other suggestions...turn off noise reduction, etc. etc. There was some improvement, but the problem was dramatically improved (to the point of almost sounding like a land line) by following your tip of switching LTE to data only. Hopefully this is a permanent solution.
Yesterday i take a new iPhone 7 Plus Gold 128GB A1784, I'm very disappointed with this issue, what about official answer from apple? Maybee i need Latest Update or i need go to the wwaranty replacement? What i need to do? Apple? ComeON!
I'm on t-mobile, iPhone i7 plus, brand new. Here's what finally worked for me...ALL of the following. Now it works.
1. In Settings, make sure WIFI is turned ON
2. In Settings, turn OFF Noise Cancelling
3. In Settings, Set Enable LTE to Data Only
4. Hold top of phone near ear/head…angle voice receiver/bottom of phone away from face somewhat; don’t press phone like a slab against your head.
5. Speak firmly and kind of loud…but not abnormally loud. Don’t mumble.
I'm having these same exact issues! We bought 5 phones at same time and mine is the only one with his problem. I'm pretty sure it's defective but don't know what to do. Already tried Apple Geniu Bar and resetting entire phone. So frustrating. Has anyone found a solution?

I've tried all the steps listed on this site. Nothing works. It's a brand new iPhone7 - I've made 4 calls, and no one can hear me without using the headphones.
Given the number of complaints I'm seeing here, it seems like this is a defective product. The really expensive phone that isn't actually a working phone.
I'm having this problem with an iPhone 6.
Try this as a test: find the back microphone (which is right next to the camera bump). Place a call, and try talking with a finger covering the back microphone, and without. I'm finding that with the back mic covered up, voice calls are crystal clear. With the finger not covering the back microphone, it's muffled.
Although this seems like a problem with noise cancellation, turning that feature on or off didn't help.
I have just received yet another replacement 7 Plus and once again people are struggling to hear me. That's with 2 different networks. Phone is not in a case, have tried noise cancelling on & off. Now, I also have an Honor 9 and a Galaxy S7 here and the same sims in those phones have no problem with call quality whatsoever. In the UK and I have tried a 3 sim and a Sky Mobile sim. It must be an issue with the hardware.
Has anyone resolved this issue?? I also have a new iphone7 plus and everyone complains that they can not hear me clearly or not at all. I have to shout to everyone I talk to. They tell me there is noise and that I sound like I'm in deep hole or under a mattress. I am seriously ANGRY about this considering how much money this phone costs. I did not want an iphone to begin with but my husband purchased it for me through our ATT plan.
I'm still fighting with Apple on my 7plus. It's been terrible since day one. Wasted lots of time with tech support trying to figure out the problem. I reminded them that they're getting paid for this and I'm not. All I did was purchase a phone that is incapable of doing its basic function! I'm getting my third replacement phone tomorrow. If that doesn't work I'm demanding they upgrade me to the 8.
I recently had a Genius Bar appointment regarding this issue. I took with me 3 different network sims, all uk, 3, O2 and EE. The assistant allowed me to call him from outside the store so he could hear what I was trying to explain. He admitted with all 3 sims my voice was only clear when holding the phone horizontally to my mouth. Now the problem is my phone passed all diagnostics so they just blame the networks. I left the store without a replacement and am now thinking of an alternative.
I ended up calling tech support with the 7plus and laughed a little when he needed me to keep repeating myself. They told me when I get my phone today to not update it to 11. Don't waste your time with them. Get transfered to customer relations. They have the ability to give you a different model. If this one doesn't work I'm suppose to get an 8. I'll keep you updated.
