iPhone headphones detected but no sound

Same problem here, for about a year.

But I also have another problem which I think is related.

Every now and then after a call, instead of the silent headphones, I get this painful and high pitch sound when trying to listen to music.

It really hurts my ears and could potentially be dangerous to my hearing.

It too is resolved after a restart.

Been having the same issue with my iPhone SE. Apple replaced it, but the new one has the same issues. This has been my first experience with an iphone and I am so frustrated with Apple. How can they release a product with such faulty issues, and then years later still have no fix for it? All I want is a decent working phone. This is ridiculous.

This is definitely a software problem. Does Apple ever reply to these kinds of threads? I find it very frustrating that they seem to just ignore this issue completely.

Just because you can't replicate a problem does not mean that it doesn't exist!

When I got my phone replaced, the woman who was helping me said it was common with these phones so apparently they do know about it. It does seem to be a software bug to me, because otherwise why would putting the speaker on and off solve the problem. I can't understand why they haven't released a fix by now. Extremely frustrating.

I am having similar problem with sound.

Currently I have an iPhone 6s (10.3.3) about a year. I have also experienced the same problem with my iPhone 4s since iOS 7 which I had up until I got the 6s.

Due to disability, I must use the phone with headphones.

When ever I make a call, I won't hear any ringing and or person answering unless I press the speaker button on then off.

I also experience it frequently when receiving calls.

I also experience it with other apps like music and YouTube videos.

In the past I have done a reset all network settings and then a reboot and it clears up for a little while. But it returns.

I just replaced my iPhone 6s last week and it's still hapening.

Any suggestions.

Im about to leave Apple forever

I have the exact same problem! while making call headphone not working.

That senior Apple Tech is basically just sprouting nonsense because he isn't able to solve the issue or replicate it.

I am facing the same issue with Iphone 6s IOS 10.3.2.

As a workaround am going with Scott's solution which works for me for now.
Please fix this issue.
Its very annoying.

Ive had this problem since my iPhone 4s with iOS 7

I have 10.3.3 and still have the same problem.

I've since had my phone and headphones replaced at the same time because Apple thought they might be interacting with each other in some way. I've still experienced the problem since, so Apple's suggestion was that it was a service provider issue. I have Sprint -- are others on this thread also Sprint users?

Same issue - wish I could give a fix.

If on a phone call, switch to speaker and then back to headphones and that works.

But if want to listening to audio I have found nothing other than a reboot to fix it.

Playing music you can see the equalizer bands going, but no audio through the headphones.

Tried 3 different pair that I have, and all produced no sound. Plugged the headphones into my iPod and all work without fail.

I keep thinking a newer version of the OS will fix this bug (happening since at least 10.2), but nothing. I am on 10.3.1 (latest) now.

I have been traveling more in the last 6 months, and thought maybe it was related to the number of times I put the phone into and out of airplane mode, but I think my phone has this happening more frequently.

Same problem here. Using iPhone 5s, on at work, and one private. Same problem on both, occasionally the sound stops coming, with our without headset. Speaker phone usually works. The person in the other end can hear me, I can't hear them.

It's the same on both phones, using different setups, different headsets. I'll soft reset, and then it all works again.

Also, last week my wife tried to call me from her iPhone 5s, I could hear her, she couldn't hear me. I texted her to do a soft reset and call me again, and then it all worked.

I connect this issue to the physical headset, being plugged in and out. It's really annoying, and it's been going on since iOS 10. All phones have the latest iOS.

Same problem on my iPhone 5S (Verizon version, ME344LL/A). iOS 10.3.2. Most reliable way to trigger it for me, is to do a long FaceTime call.

Controls on the headphone still work while the audio is broken. A reboot fixes it. There's nothing stuck in the headphone jack.

Same issue here, it's very annoying I think it's a bug on iOS 10...

The trigger is usually a FaceTime call received, no audio from the headphone even the iPhone believes it's connected properly. The only way to fix it is to reboot the device.

Any advice? It's pretty shame to have this kind of bug on an Apple device...
