Windows partition gone after Yosemite installation

Hello,

My Windows partition has gone after installing Yosemite. I'm not sure if the Windows was installed with BootCamp because my wife has installed it 6 years ago and she says "I think I installed it with BootCamp." but not sure.

I have the same issue with this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6603591?start=30&tstart=0

I couldn't understand from that discussion much.

Hello,

I've downloaded Testdisk and Gdisk. I installed Gdisk. Then I executed the Testdisk, it is still working.

Testdisk asked me to unmount the partitions from Disk Utility but it wasn't abled to do it, so I started the test as analyser only. I don't know if I'm doing right but something is happening anyway 🙂

I hope I'm doing it right 🙂

Thank you very much.

Hello again,

I used the 'p' command for each MS Data entry.

In some of them it said:

Can't open filesystem. Filesystem seems damaged.

And in others it was like this:

W7 will only support NTFS. The 20739 sectors is too small for Windows. The MFT seems to have been corrupted. To fix the MFT, a partition is required, but a MFT is required to see files.

Testdisk has the ability to correct MFTs, but this is too small a volume to be of much use. Do you have a backup of W7 on an external disk?

This seems to be a part of your NTFS file system. But there is an issue with it.

Your GPT3 (Recovery HD) ends at 891963392, but your NTFS starts at 891906048, which is somewhere within the Recovery HD partition leaving a gap of 57,344 sectors and small for 1269536 sectors. We can delete the current GPT3 entry and create a NTFS entry at 891906048 and try to see if it will work. In the past, under similar circumstances, it has been unsuccessful.

This does indicate that the upgrade did not function properly.

Please download GPT Fdisk from https://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ . Once GPT Fdisk (aka gdisk) is installed, from Terminal run the following commands. These commands remove the GPT3 Recovery HD and create a new GPT3 which points to the NTFS header from Testdisk (Please do not type such text).

sudo gdisk /dev/disk0

x (Experts menu)

l (Lowercase "L" - set sector alignment... )

1 (... to 1 sector)

m (Main menu)

d (delete)

3 (GPT3)

d (delete)

4 (GPT4)

n (New)

3 (GPT3)

891906048 (NTFS Start)

976771071 (NTFS End)

0700 (Microsoft Basic Data)

p (Print)

w (Write)

y (Confirm write)

Reboot and check if you can see Windows files in OSX Finder. There are additional steps required after this.
