MacBook 2016 screen flickering

A few days ago my screen started to flicker. It looks like it rapidly turns on and off. It happens now and then and seems to end if one moves the mouse cursor to the top of the screen. I think it started after upgrading to macOs Sierra 10.12.3. Anyone else has this problem?

I have been having this same issue where my screen will start to flicker in a certain area it looks like a bunch of white bars at first I thought it was part of the video then I refreshed the page and they were no longer there. I had the 2017 MacBook Pro non touchbar this is the second unit I have had this problem with not identical but similar. User uploaded fileI am patiently waiting for apple to release a new version of the MacBook Pro as I do not trust the current version after having heard of this issue so many times and experienced it on 2 of my own

Please fix apple In need of a reliable machine!

After having a 71 minute long chat with two separate Apple advisors I have my problem fixed. I'll give a quick run down of what I was told to do.

-Create a new test user.

-I then had to log into the test user and see if the problem persisted there (which it did not.).

-I was told to delete the test user.

-Started in safe mode and had to check if the problem persisted there (the problem was amplified 10x and the audio wasn't working)

-I then had to restart the Mac and was told the problem would most likely go back to how it was before which it did.

-I then had to go to System Preferences and click my user name from Users & Groups then I was told to click Login Items, then I was told to remove all the items in there and restart my Mac to check if the problem persisted (The problem is now gone)

Now I don't know if this method is a forever method or temporary, if the stuttering comes back I will let you all know.

Yeah, I did the same problem since I upgraded the OS X Sierra High to the last upgrade.
So far I have experienced this problem just once, but it was heart stopping. While I was trying to log in to my account
it just started to flicker about 5-10 seconds. I thought it was a problem in my display. But it suddenly stopped. Also I have seen that when my laptop is closed and I open it to sign in to my user, there is strange blinking once in purple or other ugly colours. It's not like transition from black screen to the desktop image, there is always a really annoying flicking in some kind of broken colours. I am really afraid of that... I was thinking it's cause of my monitor. However the laptop is late edition September 2017.

Yeah and last but not least, sometimes when I am dragging image file to other place, the image thumbnail had stuck on the screen and can't be removed unless I restart my laptop.

Apple, please help us get rid of this awful bugs.

Hi. Unfortunately not. I updated to the last version of the OS few weeks ago but I am still experiencing the same issues. 😟 Sry, can't help! I hope so some support guru have to be involved and say what should we do. It's really annoying having that bugs and there are also other OS bugs which is really weird and strange for such a quality brand. Hope so they will do their best really soon.

Same problem here MacBook Pro 2016... I've always noticed this strange flicker to either a dark purple screen or full white screen when opening from sleep mode but it never seemed to effect anything. Sometimes a software update would fix it for a while. Then the screen flickering started just this past week or so after updating to 10.13.4 the strange thing is if I go to "restart my computer" let the confirmation window pop up and then just cancel the restart the flicker goes away. I disabled the automatic GPU switching for now since that seems to be the prevailing wisdom. One more thing to note is that I had something similar happen on my work computer which is an older generation before the touch bar. So my guess is this may be a software thing, definitely recommend trying to turn of GPU switching before everyone goes replacing their logic boards. Would be nice to have some confirmation from Apple that there is a bug here.

So since turning off GPU switching the screen flickering that has plagued me has stopped. So my thought is this is a software issue not a hardware issue. Replacing the logic board will result in the same problem. It is also an 800 dollar repair which is a really expensive repair for it to not work in the end. I would advise just turning off GPU switching and dealing with the crappy battery life until Apple releases a patch. It didn't start off this way so I think one of the recent updates created this issue.

Ah, see I am past my warranty so I'm reluctant to spend the money especially since turning off the switching has fixed it so I can live without the other graphics card. However, I am curious if changing the logic board does anything, it is possible the intel graphics card is bad. If I still had the warranty I would probably be more tempted to have them change it out. If you end up doing it and it works for you I'd love to know. I'll probably just continue using the laptop like this until it's time for my next upgrade though 800 bucks is a little too much to put in, it might be a comparable cost to selling this laptop and buying a new one lol.

//Like edit, but day after 😉

Tests, it's not software problem – I cloned other MacOS and run from USB via MacBook, display ghosts and other issues – still are. Now I'am over secondary MacBook Pro and all works greate via clone my MacBook HD's. Also, after night over MacBook ghost are gone, but stripes darker and sometime others flickering (line) stills on and sometimes another strips shows 😢

In my opinion – it's not a software problem. My Clone over other MB looks, works fine.

My issue was after night (sleep) too... Now I can't check – this but iStat Menus was show temp of GPU – (in night) close to 100 degrees – for long interval. NAP is off for both.

P.S. I'm unsure (iStat Menus chart) this but I wondering why? So check all and this was, but I don't know maybe chart was of working Mac. Tests needed.

Maybe we are talking about different problems, because my laptop has been flickering for 2 weeks after sleep mode, and mostly this problem disappeared after closing and reopening the lid.

Then I decided to switch off the option:

System preferences -> energy saver and then tick off the automatic graphics switching

And now the problem disappeared. So if some checkbox made it work I do believe this is not a hardware problem, but the software one. I'm asking if someone tried to install MacOS Mojave (beta) and tried to check if the problem persists there

If the card is dead, why it works well when just regularly using MacBook (with switching graphics on) and appears only after sleep mode? For me, it means that there is some problem exactly with this "switching" graphics when MacBook tries to switch from internal card to external one.

I do wish you a good luck in the service, let us know how is it going.
