apple watch sudden screen shatter

Hi, my wife's Apple Watch screen has suddenly shattered. The watch was on her wrist and we were just watching tv. Her wrist wasn't moving, we heard a crack, then the screen had shattered completely. I know this sounds completely strange but it actually happened! Has anyone else heard of such a fault? I could understand if the Watch had been dropped or knocked but it wasn't, it was stationary on her wrist?

Any ideas?

Thanks Richard

Isn't that sooo crazy! My unscratched, perfect screen shattered overnight on the charger. I spoke with someone on the phone first who said to send my 4-month-old watch in and see if it would be covered by warranty. But, I was impatient and took it in to the Apple Store. They checked it out and said the screen had to have been damaged externally--they said the battery wasn't swollen--but they would send it in under warranty just to see. I got an email saying the techs checked my broken watch out and that I would have to pay $229 to fix the screen because it was due to external damage. I called and ended up speaking with a senior advisor who told me to "not lose hope" but that they would send it back to me damaged. Upon receiving the damaged watch, I was supposed to email the senior advisor and let her know I received it. So, I did. At that point, the senior advisor said she did some research and I could send my watch in again and Apple would fix or replace it. I got a new watch back (different serial number). I'm grateful they fixed my watch that was obviously defective. I hope Apple kept my watch and is looking at it with a fine-tooth comb to see if they can figure out what caused mine to break and fix the problem to help everyone who is having this same issue. I count myself lucky! But, I did have a nice fitbit picked out to replace my Apple watch! Haha. If my watch breaks again soon, I really am not going to buy another. Although I still like the bazillion other Apple products our family owns and uses.

Well, maybe you should go back to grammar school for a refresher course instead of posting emojis that make zero sense and contribute nothing in helping people get their defective watches fixed.

Exactly is an adverb, meaning precisely, perfectly or without error.

Almost is an adverb, and means very nearly, or not quite.

There is no problem using consecutive adverbs to describe a situation, and I can't think of a better, single word substitute for describing a situation where two things are very nearly, but not quite, precise or without error.

I think one could describe identical twins as almost exactly alike, for example

@lynnvdb it sounds wrong that they are demanding you pay their fee to retrieve an unrepaired device. The normal scheme when Apple contacts you seems to be pay for the device to be repaired/replaced, or it is simply returned to you unfixed. Did they specify a fee to examine and quote before you handed over your watch? Did you get the email from Apple with photos and repair options explained? Normally they allow a few days for you to respond, and if you don’t reply in the set time they assume no repair and it is shipped back to you.

The bottom line is that it is still your device, and if they refuse to return your property you may have a claim against them particularly if a fee to examine and quote for repair was not clearly explained.

With the amount of people reporting this problem I can’t believe that Apple won’t investigate it properly, there is clearly a fault with the design of this watch, we can’t all be wrong.

I have given up, Apple are not getting any more of my money. I don’t want to pay for a third one funnily enough. Why would I when this has happened twice?

Ditching my iPhone as well now that it’s out of contract and finding something else, also, won’t be upgrading my iPad or any other of my Apple products. Customer service is not what to used to be with Apple, or the quality of their products in my opinion. Such a shame as I have been an avid Apple products user for 20 odd years!

I put my watch on the table the next morning the lens was popped open and the glass was cracked. I brought it in and they said it was my fault and since I have AppleCare they charged me $70. I tried to dispute this and 5 people later they said I have to go to the Apple store and take it up with them. Time to contact consumer affairs.

‘I’m very po’d at Apple now.

Wow, reading all this. I begged for the new watch for Xmas. All I keep hearing about are problems. People scratching the screens. It’s a sports watch! Aren’t these watches pushed for activity? They need to take a hit. My daughter has a Fitbit - that thing has been through the woods & no problems. She treats it like crap. I’m an apple girl. Now thinking this was a bad decision. I working out- not worried about my watch.
