Hello,

If an alert says that your accessory isn't supported or certified

These alerts can appear for a few reasons: Your iOS device might have a dirty or damaged charging port, your charging accessory is defective, damaged, or non Apple-certified, or your USB charger isn't designed to charge devices.

  1. Remove any debris from the charging port on the bottom of your device.
  2. Restart your iOS device.
  3. Try a different USB cable or charger.
  4. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS.
  5. Contact Apple Support to set up service.

To follow up to my post I've been using aftermarket chargers with my Iphone since I got it new without issues. Then boom as soon as I do the update It's not supported anymore?? Anyone who says or thinks this is a hardware issue is blind... It's Apples way to force people to live and breath Apple products. Proprietary software is one thing but now hardware too?? Last straw for me...

So you're telling me the cables I've been using for years all of a sudden will catch my phone on fire. And those same cables I've been using for years all of sudden stop working after an Apple update??? And yes I've tried my OEM charger and it works fine but this isn't the point. The point is Apple is so bent on holding their customers hostage that in the end it will only hurt them. If they want us to use OEM items then they need to drop their prices about %50 and maybe I would entertain buying their OEM products... I've also had Android for a number of years with all sorts of aftermarket chargers without issue. Apple isn't trying to protect their products... They are trying to protect their pockets!

I completely agree with you. I have tried all the suggestions, and still nothing allows me to charge my device since upgrading. The standard advice about cleaning ports is next to useless. I am afraid to mention who I think the culprit is, because of the heavy moderation on this website. Maybe try cleaning the connections on the cable itself?

But these are brand new iphones (one month old, for each). One from Rogers in Toronto (iPhone 7) and one from Bell in Calgary (iPhone 6s)? Both running IOS 11.2.2. 😟 The iPhone 7 only gets used M-F.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Actual defects tend to show up fairly quickly.

Just seems odd, that at 11.1, I didn't see this (although, with my iPhone 5s it did do this for a while at 10.x.x), then I update these two phones to 11.1.1 all the way to 11.2.2, and this message starts appearing?

I'll take them to the "Genius bar" (grin) and see if any of the geniuses know.. It happens at random times. Both phones have been sitting in front me for the last hour and 20, and no pop up on the lock screen so far.. Last one was around 2 hours ago.

Thanks!

Checked with flashlight and Giotto blower (camera large squeeze blower).

Nothing.

As indicated earlier.. I am not plugging anything into the phone's lightning or speaker port, when this message pops up.

It came up only once today on the 6s (nothing plugged in). The work iPhone 7 was fine (today). It was plugged in and charging from my PC's USB port.

Thanks.

I have been using a 3rd party charger for my iPhone 8 (decently new phone) after my Apple charger stopped working, and it worked perfectly fine until the most recent update, and then it started saying “accessory not supported” and will sometimes just quit charging. I am planning on taking it to the store in attempt to contest this situation. This is ridiculous. This also happened with my old phone and it eventually just messed up the entire phone, but only after an update and that message. Thus the reason for my 8. I’m with you.

I agree with Earnest Rutherford..

Let's get this right... You're saying that BOTH my new iPhones, from two different sources and two different models, have dirt?

(Sorry, checked, and under high magnification, after using a tiny vacuum, discovered they are clean as a whistle, with no damage visible, and one of them still produced the error 2 more times);

or the cable is not Apple (which is the ORIGINAL that came in the sealed boxes, with the phones ??);

and besides, the phones were not plugged in at the times all these "accessory" errors came up, but just sitting on my desk, not connected to ANYTHING!

REALLY?

(I followed your advice, which did not pan out...) -

(I'll wait to see if the 11.2.5 update fixes the issue. Then I will KNOW it was software).
