Home Button unresponsive after 10.3 Update

Hi,

After updating my iphone 7 Plus 128 GB to iOS 10.3, my home button has become unresponsive.

When in an app, it sometimes takes more than one press of the home button to return back to the home screen.

On the failed press, I feel the haptic feedback so this means that the phone is registering the press, it's just not minimizing the app for some reason.

I have tried to reset the iPhone and also tried a full restore.

This only started after the update to 10.3.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

It is extremely frustrating.

Just an update, it seems like the problem is getting progressively worse. It occurs more and more and thus far today has really been bad. I have not restarted since last time and my perception is that the unresponsiveness is occurring much more frequent now. I am considering backing out of 10.3 but I have not made a full backup prior to update. No big issues but still inconvenience...

Anyone else still on 10.2.1, just keep in mind that 10.3 and 10.3.1 patched up *a lot* of potential vulnerabilities in iOS. If you care about security more than this issue bothers you, consider 10.3. Otherwise, yes — definitely downgrade to 10.2.1 ASAP because feel like think Apple's going to stop signing it very soon.

I'm on 10.3.1 because not being on the latest, most secure version of iOS bothers me.

Just sucking it up and dealing with the issue for now — hoping Apple's at least acknowledged this issue and is working on a fix.

My brand new IPhone 7 has a black screen tonight. I have tried holding down the sleep/wake button and the bottom volume button together. It happened this morning and when I held the buttons the apple appeared and the phone was fine. Tonight it is not working. It will not restart. I chatted with apple support and they were no more help than that. I have an appointment at a Genius Bar tomorrow but it just seems too coincidental that I downloaded the new 10.3 update last night. Has anyone had any problems like this? Very frustrating.

Hi guys,

So some really weird feedback from my side.

I am also from South Africa and experiencing this home button issue. I have been overseas for the past week and updated my phone to 10.3.1 just before I left. Before I left I was still experiencing the issue. For the week I was overseas, the issue was completely gone!

I have just landed back in SA and the problem is back!

It might be some regional issue but I am not sure how.

My phone was purchased in Dubai anyway so it's not local SA stock.

A bit confused here.....

Also in South Africa. Also only started experiencing this after updating to 10.3 (when it was still in beta). I reported it then but received no feedback. Now that the public has updated I am relieved to not be the only one experiencing it. I receive haptic feedback but the app doesn't respond. I then have to tap the home button again for the app to close. Really annoying.

Using 10.3.1 with no issue here, I'm from the UK. Its not something I have seen as a big issue on other forums, I would contact apple as the update incorporates the new apple file system and a host of bug fixes including a nasty wifi vulnerability in fixed in 10.3.1 You run the risk of leaving your phone exposed staying on 10.2.1, it may be hardware rather than software as your phone may have an issue that the update has brought to light. Most people I know have had no issue at all and the phone is much faster with 10.3/10.3.1 so I would try to see what the Apple store can do about this by contacting them.

I had the same problem after updating to 10.3. but, I've managed to solve this problem yesterday. now the problem went away.

Please try to take out your sim card from your iPhone and see if the problem is still persist.

For my case, there was a so-called extra sim card attached to my original sim card for roaming purpose. i can switch seamlessly between one sim card to another sim card when i go oversea by just doing some minor setting on my phone.

it was working perfectly with 10.2 but no luck with 10.3. So, after i removed the extra sim card. everything back to normal. home button working as smooth as silk.

Good luck to u.

Oh wow... now this is very interesting, and very strange to me. Just out of curiosity, I removed my SIM card and tried to replicate the problem.

The issue was completely gone. The home button reacted to a single press and returned to the home screen. I tried to replicate the problem over and over, but the home button worked like a dream.

After a while, I put the SIM card back in, and after the very first try to replicate the problem, it was present yet again - the home button again needed two presses instead of one to return to the home screen from an app.

This is hardly a solution as I, and probably most iPhone users, need a SIM card every day.

Please try this out, everybody, and let us know what happens.

This is super weird but would make sense to what I have also found.

As I said in my previous post, the issue would only happen when I was in my home country "South Africa"

When I travelled abroad and used a different sim card, the issue went away.

What I don't understand is that the sim works perfectly fine and the issue is not present with the 10.2.1 version.

Is anyone else having this issue in SA with a Telkom mobile sim card?

Apr 11, 2017 3:48 AM in response to Gubbles

I can confirm this issue is linked to certain SIM cards and also not one specific telecom. I am from Singapore and I use a service called FlexiroamX where you stick an extra layer of microchip over your existing SIM card. What it does is when you are overseas you can "switch" the SIM card electronically instead of having to take out the card physically. Once you switch over you can enable roaming to access internet at a lower cost.

So I had this home button issue when first updating to 10.3 (with the FlexiroamX microchip attached). I quickly downgraded back to 10.2.1 and the problem went away. Then I lost my phone, got a replacement phone and original SIM card. The replacement phone activation process forced me to update to 10.3.1 so I did that. The home button issue did not surface, taking note this is before I got the replacement microchip from FlexiroamX. As soon as I paste the FlexiroamX microchip the home button issue came back.

Strangely the issue is active only if I am on my "Home SIM" with the microchip pasted. If I switch to FlexiroamX the problem is not there anymore. Also like others reported, when no SIM cards are inserted there is no problem.

Really disappointed with Apple recently. What's the point of having so many betas if fundamental bugs like this are reported but ignored?
