iPhone 6 screen freezes after iOS 10.3.1 update

It's the first time it happens to me, after updating to the latest IOS the phone started working wrong, the screen freezes, it turns off alone and it opens apps and chats without touching the screen. I think it's a problem of the update as many iphone 6 an iphone 6 plus are having the same issue. I tried almost everything but it didn't worked.

I'll be very grateful if you can solve it.

iPhone 6, iOS 10.3.1

Hi there!

Had the same problem, getting worse from day to day, but it looks like an issue with TouchID and/or Passcode!

I use TouchID to unlock the iPhone and the Passcode (4 Digits).

Yesterday i disabled both: Settings ==> TouchID & Passcode ==> entering 4 Digits ==> iPhone Unlock slider to off ==> Turn Passcode Off

Now almost every tap on the screen resulted in screen freeze (a real nightmare!), but i was able to go to Settings ==> TouchID & Passcode again and turned the Passcode on. Now i had to enter 6 Digits(!!) for a new passcode.

I deleted the finger prints, made new ones, and turned TouchID to on again.

Since then not a single freeze!

Hello there I had the same issue with iPhone 6s plus overheating and screen becoming unresponsive and phone starting to type and opening applications and emails by itself. Very frustrating and annoying. Did a complete reset and set as new phone as well as use a backup w/o any improvement; I also went to apple who ran diagnostics and didn't find anything wrong with the phone and recommended upgrading to new phone. I started to notice some faint small light grey squares along the top of the screen and decided to bite the bullet and replaced my screen. I did this about 2 weeks ago and have not had any issues since then. I believe that touch disease is also occurring on iPhone 6s plus despite the re-positioning of the touch ic chips.

Hello there, when I mentioned before that ghost typing issue was resolved after replacing the screen I was referring to the iPhone 6s Plus which had the touch IC chips removed from the back of the mainboard and placed in the screen itself. I replaced my screen a few weeks back now and have not had any issues with ghost typing or screen becoming unresponsive since then. Hope this helps. Definitively a cheaper option to buying a new phone.

I have a 6s and it often freezes on the native system apps too. I don't think that any of the later models are going to be immune to this. I can attest that older apps are often the culprit to stability and battery issues when new major iOS revisions are deployed. However, a new bug i noticed today was after using the official Reddit app, the system did not fade to black/screensaver and was on all night and ran the battery down for me (noticed this at 6:30 am, it was still on the Front Page- phone died 20 minutes later). The Reddit app was just updated a few days ago after the iOS11 version came out.

Freezes on the 6s that I have encountered are mostly native app related:
Email: native email client- freezes when trying to open, swipe to delete, or moving between folders- it's not a waiting on the network freeze, the whole screen and home button is unresponsive. Occurrence 20-30%

Photos: I do not open the photos folder very often, but after 11.0.3, it now takes me 1-3 tries to get it to open. Same issue when trying to add a photo within text message. Occurrence 30%

Messages: tapping the icon to launch the text messages does not always respond. Other times when it does respond, it loads a white screen with grey circles on the left (the contact initials/image). This is occurring frequently, 30%

Logging on to the device: most of the time the finger print reader activates, but other times when inputting the number code, the system freezes after the last digit. So there is a 3-5 second black/grey screen before you move to the home screen. Not a deal killer but more of the same issue.

Note: iPhone 6s, 16Gb (6Gb free space), iOS 11.0.3

Device was purchased new, not a refurbish and has never had a replacement part

I backup and restore to factory defaults after each major iOS revision, which I've found is the only way to keep the device in good running shape. I backed up/restored after iOS11, but do not usually have to do this after each patch update.

Apple guys: Something's not right with this one guys, there's a lot of unresponsive UI issues here.

I also upgraded to ios11 this morning and since then its been working without a single freeze.

So it turns out to be Apple s/w issue then why the heck Apple has been saying its not their issue but the phone-drop issue.

Moreover they were recommending to change the screen for $149. Whoever had changed their screen as a solution for this freeze issue should ask for the refund.

This headache issue(software issue) happened after iOS10.2, there is no way to solve it except to replace it with a new phone.I am the one of the users that changed the screen. I am pretty sure Apple will never to offer any refund for the issue even it is their software issue.

Another similar headache issue(hardware issue) on iphone6 and iphone 6s is iphone 6/6s unexpected shutdown. But Apple only offer recall for iphone6s without iphone6.

Maybe iPhone 6 is too old and it is out of their warranty policy.
