Safari iOS 10.3.1 not clearing Safari cache

Hello,

Firstly, I would like to apologize for my very long absence from these forums. I was a regular and often visited to offer help when I could. My father was very ill then passed away a little over a year ago so I have had a lot to deal with and am still dealing with.

That being said, the reason I am here today is that I have noticed that after the last iOS update (10.3.1) that my Safari cache does not clear completely. I have tried deleting it through settings and through Safari. This is happening on both of my iPads and my iPhone. Is anyone else having this issue? I will report it but wanted to know if this was widespread or something going on with only my devices?

I have tried resetting the devices, turning iCloud off for Safari, setting the date forward, etc, and nothing helps. Not all websites visited remain in my cache, just a select few. I cannot figure out why some clear and some don't.

If someone has a solution they have found please let me know.

Thanks!

Anyway, I hope you all are well!

I Think we're all going to just have to ride this one out.

Hopefully, if enough people report the issue to Apple they'll provide a fix in a future update. I have had a few more persistent items remain since my original post. Going back & forth closing tabs, clearing history within Safari, clearing history & website data in settings, I can at least clear all remaining items to 0kb. I have tried every solution offered and at this point I am not willing to set up my devices as new if the problem will still persist.

Again, I do not know if it's related, but with this problem, I've been spammed with hundreds of phishing emails, which I started forwarding to Apple's scam email address. And, I had my credit card number stolen and used. Everyone here is treating this like a bug, and I've been talking with dozens of people who are experiencing the more nasty problems I am seeing. I think this is a security hole. Anyone from Apple listening into this forum should chime in and let us know if these are related or not.

HI Mike,

I have not experienced any increase in spam or had my credit card compromised nor do I know anyone else who has. I truly hope that the dozens of people you have spoken with have all reported this to Apple if they believe it is related. Apple does not monitor these forums...the forums are here so fellow users can help each other out when experiencing problems with our iOS devices.

I am experiencing a very similar issue to this one, and after using the trusty search engines stumbled across this post.

Having tried everything I reverted to Apple Support Online. The Apple Care Support colleague advised that I had tried all the steps to clear the issue/clear history. The issue for me is having data retained within Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage > Safari 'History' of 4.6mb. Updating to 10.3.2 did not clear the issue.

All other Safari Storage options (Website Data & Offline Reading List) are both Zero KB and iCloud is not enabled for anything other than 'Find My iPhone' with the Safari toggle off.

Apple Care advised that they have raised a case file for this with Engineering as it would appear to be an issue with the software, indeed the lady at Apple Care checked her iPhone and found that when she had done all the steps to clear the History data she was left with 153mb. I was advised to use Private Mode ... however this will not remove the 'phantom data' being retained by Safari core app in iOS - but clearly should not add to the 4.6mb and risk it growing and growing.

Whilst talking online with Apple Care I did copy and paste the URL from this discussion thread.

So all fingers crossed that Apple Engineering can solved this issue.

Apologies if this is not quite the same issue reported in the original opening post ... but I felt it was similar and therefore would leave a comment.

Have a great day!
