Cracked screen MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

Devastated to say that my relatively new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar has a cracked display/LCD at the bottom on the screen. I'm not particularly rough with my MacBook and presumably this occurred due to closing the screen with something between the keys and the screen. I recall the moment the crack appeared, so this would have been a dust speck. Although I have AppleCare, the cost of repair is $680, since this is "accidental damage" and "out of warranty"

The new machine seems much more fragile than my older MacBook Pro's which are still going strong 5 years in!

Have others had problems with a fragile displays?

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS Sierra (10.12.5), null

I just opened my MacBook pro 13in with TouchBar and noticed a small crack on the side of the bar under the display that says "MacBook Pro".. Nothing I did could have caused. It seemed to have just come out of nowhere..

Same thing, here, Macbook pro, normal use, and the screen cracked with no apparent reason, went to the apple store to get the waranty and to my surpise they consider this an accident, but honestly it's a design fault, I read where the screen has a 1.5 mm thikness, no wonder it cracks if the whether changes, it's just too thin.

Apple has really been loosing focus, sacrificing quality (their main competitive strenght), and increasing price. I wonder how many mor loyal customers will they loose this way?

Welcome to the club of unhappy Apple customers 😟. Same thing here. I even started justifying that I may have done something wrong to crack it but apparently it is very thin and can easily be broken. I'v used it for about 1 week just when I get home from work, to transfer data from old MacBook Pro to the new one. No major use and it cracked that easily. Cost me $2800 and now I'm left with a cracked brand new MacBook Pro with touch bar that's disabled as a result of the crack. Apple don't seem to care and will fight to avoid taking responsibility. They may admit their fault after a while. All they care about is money and profit and not the Apple customer experience anymore.

I purchased in dec 2016 and after 3 weeks I saw crack I used it very careful. I had fight with store and apple but luckily i got replacement after 4 months due to store mistake. Also after replacement, after 10 months I see another crack that due to my daughter mistake but they make it very **** quality. I need macbook for work but now I am using air and new macbook pro with crack. I am ready to pay money but it has to be durable I don't need true tone there it useless feature for me. Now i am afraid to fix coz it can crack again easily and afraid to purchase new one. Thanks to Apple they will loose them loyal customer like this.

That's not a good solution for me. I take my computer to work every day as I'm a university instructor and should use both notebook and iPads in classroom.

If I wanted to keep at home, I would have bought a desktop instead. But the excitement of having the latest notebook turned into a disaster and a very bad experience with Apple products.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts though

I'm was thinking of getting a macbook pro, preferably the base 13" model which retails around $1299 and this has caused me to reconsider my options.

If I buy one of these screen protectors, will they help prevent the same issue everyone else is having ?

If anyone has put a screen protector on their macbook pro 2016-2018 then kindly let me know.

This just happened a few months back to my computer as well. Laptop is less than a year old, shut the lid with nothing it it, and the bottom left of the screen cracked with what looks like a small puncture.

I think there is some sort of design flaw here that is very disappointing to see happening with such high quality machines. Not what I would expect from paying so much for a laptop...

I barely used mine for a week, I was only moving files from my old Mac to the new one with the touch bar, while keeping it at home and it cracked. At first I doubted myself that I could have caused the issue but honestly I've had it on the couch right next to me half way open and once I got back to work on it, I found the screen cracked. I'm certain their is a default in the screen or the keyboard that caused this issue. There is no way that such an expensive MacBook Pro will have such a fragile screen. This is not my first MacBook.

Apple considered it accidental and refused to cover. Now it's been 2 month and I have not fixed it or used it. A $2800 MacBook Pro left in the box with a cracked screen.

I bought my MacBook Pro 3mths ago hasn’t left the house always careful with it, crack appeared on left hand side near hinge the more we open & close the screen it has become a hole now, took it to apple and declared manufacturing fault was told we must of closed it with something in it and it’s not covered under warranty and cost $700 to fix which I refuse to pay since it cost me $3000. Was told best way to get it fixed was to claim it on our house & contents insurance wow thanks apple so much for customer service not happy

Do you work for Apple, because you appear to think you have all of the answers? Apparently there is some type of issue with the LCD screens if everyone is encountering the same problem. I can't imagine over 50 people on this thread having the same issue, and in the same areas that this is property damage.

Apple needs to take accountability for their products, PERIOD.

That's really disappointing. I'm using my old Mac and have the new one back in its box with a cracked screen. I still don't understand why a major company like APPLE is ignoring this issue and not fixing a common default.

Toyota did recall their corolla cars and every one talks about how customer oriented and honest they are. They seem don't care.
