Cracked screen MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

Devastated to say that my relatively new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar has a cracked display/LCD at the bottom on the screen. I'm not particularly rough with my MacBook and presumably this occurred due to closing the screen with something between the keys and the screen. I recall the moment the crack appeared, so this would have been a dust speck. Although I have AppleCare, the cost of repair is $680, since this is "accidental damage" and "out of warranty"

The new machine seems much more fragile than my older MacBook Pro's which are still going strong 5 years in!

Have others had problems with a fragile displays?

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS Sierra (10.12.5), null

I just opened my MacBook pro 13in with TouchBar and noticed a small crack on the side of the bar under the display that says "MacBook Pro".. Nothing I did could have caused. It seemed to have just come out of nowhere..

This is a result of you physically cracking the screen by allowing some foreign object to get between the screen and the keyboard. All you can do is take it to Apple and they will quote you a repair cost if you don't have AppleCare Plus. This is not a result of a manufacturer's defect.

It is a defect. I spoke with a rep. There is a light panel between the top lid (metal covering) of the computer and the glass that was affected which makes it appear as if the glass is broken when in reality it the light panel between glass and lid. The damage was not caused by something put between the top of the laptop and keys. Never happened on the sturdiness of former laptops. It appears the thinness of the new laptops do not have the sturdiness of former MacBook Pro laptops. No warrantee or Apple Care covers this defect.

"Screen breaks. Wants to learn about it"

What's there to learn about? You go to Apple if you broke your screen. If you have AppleCare Plus it's covered for repair. If you don't have it then you pay. Simple as that. Every complaint here is a new account. Wouldn't the others that have been here a long time be complaining about a broken screen too? I don't see that. Does it only happen to members with new accounts? Sure seems to be the case. Then each post ends in a rant or "I'll never buy an Apple product again, etc...".

I see a planned agenda here from outside sources.

You probably have an older model. However, newly purchased Macbook Pro 2017 without touch bar laptop is what I have experienced and what I am reading on the web. Pressure from the outside of the laptop causes a light panel (don’t know proper name) to break, not the glass screen. This panel is found between the glass screen and ultra thin lid of the laptop. The screen appears to be shattered but it is NOT! Apple is charging for repair and WARRANTEE nor APPLE CARE covers it. Maybe if enough people have the same issue, they will change their policy and cover cost. Hope you can understand this information.

"You probably have an older model."

Wrong assumption. See my forum pic. I have a 2018 MBP with the Touch Bar. I also had a 2017 MBP and neither have ever experienced a crack from normal use.

"Apple is charging for repair and WARRANTEE nor APPLE CARE covers it. :"

Any accidental damage is fully covered by AppleCare Plus (provided it's not catastrophic damage) if you bought it. Please show us proof that Apple denied repairing this under AppleCare Plus?

"Maybe if enough people have the same issue, they will change their policy and cover cost."

Ah, I see. I figured as much as to why all the complaints are constantly being posted by new accounts. Thanks for clarifying the agenda. Apple doesn't read this forum BTW. I frequent multiple forums and this is the only forum that mentions about the bottom screen cracking. It's not a widespread issue and furthermore it's still damage inflicted by the consumer. You may not want to agree with what I say but I stick to facts here.

Comments on this subject date back to June of 2017. Many users, including myself, have also uploaded pictures with their comments. I really doubt anyone is going to the trouble of making a new accounts. They probably, like me, found the damage on their laptop and created an account for the sole purpose of commenting on this thread. Most people probably just want to make sure their frustrations are documented somewhere so that Apple catches wind of it.

There is no need for conspiratorial l thinking.

And who's doubting the bottom panels are cracked? I can see that plainly. But these are not defects. This is accidental damage inflicted by the consumer. So coming here to post a rant rather than going to Apple to get it rectified does what? Why don't you go to Apple to get it fixed?

We just got back the MacBook Pro laptop 2017 13" after being repaired. The service order says, "Display Assembly, Space Gray, Broken Display-Multi Crack. This does not mean the pane was cracked, it describes the light panel beneath the pane which you cannot see. I spoke with an Apple rep about the matter and asked what if it occurs again. I will return the laptop for a full refund including cost of repair of the light panel. I would file with the BBB and anyone else I could think of should this happen again. No laptop should be that sensitive that if something bumps it on the top, the light panel breaks. To me it would mean a definite flaw. Besides, we had a protective covering on the computer and it was well protected and handled gently. I have used Apple computer and laptops for over 40 years and no laptop even when dropped have had a panel break from inside the top of the computer, not one. I wonder if he new 2019's have a little more metal on the top to protect them. The rep did tell me should I have any further trouble to contact her. That's good news. Wish you well.

I have a 3 month old Macbook Pro that I paid €5000 for, it spends 99% of it's life closed, in a Henge Dock. It's had may 50 hours outside of the dock in that time. I have the same crack, right by the MacBook Pro logo. The machine has never been dropped, or knocked. I suppose you're going to say I inflicted that damage are you?

This is clearly an issue with the display design, but in typical Apple fashion, they won't admit it until there is a class action law suit against them for it.

Perhaps you would like to tell us all that the butterfly keyboard problems are also user inflicted?

" I suppose you're going to say I inflicted that damage are you?"

I suppose you're going to tell me that the screen cracked itself huh? Hmm.

"This is clearly an issue with the display design"

It's clearly an issue of some people not willing to accept any responsibility and think people will believe them when they suggest the screen automatically cracks itself. Those cracks are clearly from users allowing harsh debris to come between the screen and the keyboard and when they close the lid it cracks. End of story. That's logic and fact. It's not logical for a screen to crack itself. It was a defect in design it would've been cracked out of the box, especially since the MacBook ships with the lid already closed. Thanks but try again.

"The machine has never been dropped, or knocked. "

Can you prove that? Obviously you can't, so it's useless to mention that. That's the same coverup when people refuse to take responsibility and they are seeking a free repair. Take up your problems with Apple. A forum is not going to help you. This was something you did.
