Cracked screen MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

Devastated to say that my relatively new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar has a cracked display/LCD at the bottom on the screen. I'm not particularly rough with my MacBook and presumably this occurred due to closing the screen with something between the keys and the screen. I recall the moment the crack appeared, so this would have been a dust speck. Although I have AppleCare, the cost of repair is $680, since this is "accidental damage" and "out of warranty"

The new machine seems much more fragile than my older MacBook Pro's which are still going strong 5 years in!

Have others had problems with a fragile displays?

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS Sierra (10.12.5), null

I just opened my MacBook pro 13in with TouchBar and noticed a small crack on the side of the bar under the display that says "MacBook Pro".. Nothing I did could have caused. It seemed to have just come out of nowhere..

Yeeees! I have the same problem. My macbook has a huge crack right in the middle, next to the ''MacBook Pro'' logo. I'm very careful with it (ocd style) and I never closed it with something between the keys and the screen, never dropped it, never took it anywhere, cuz I work from home. It just appeared and I heard a lot of people complain about this problem. What can we do? The cost of repair is way too much given the fact that it's not our fault.

I have the exact same problem.

I am ultra careful if my 2020 MacBook Pro 13 inch, I have it less than 4 month, hardly use it, and just yesterday when I opened it, I noticed what looks like someone took a chisel and dig it into the left hand corner at the very bottom of the screen, near the hinge. This is a design flaw. I haven’t trapped anything in it, nor dropped it, I don’t even take it out of the house.

Same exact problem. Why isn’t APPLE making this right? Offer an extended protection plan so a new screen is reasonable! Or, better- Apple needs to make this right. 😡 All of the money I’ve personally invested in their products was enough to start my own company where I’d treat my customers (who wouldn’t have had to resort to a discussion forum in great numbers) bc they are assets who pay for the products. Expected quality at least.

I have tried to take steps to force them to make this right. Each time I do so they remove my post immediately. It's safe to say that those of us with cracked, broken or useless MacBook Pros need to take legal steps to get their attention. We need the MBPs replaced and they aren't going to do it voluntarily. Right now I am at a loss as the Pandemic has changed the way I live.

Similar experience! I begged for them to allow me to purchase the Apple Care+ because it was a gift and was still in an unopened box but the deadline given had passed, yet they refused and then I heard they changed the policy and extended it again, but by then I had opened the box and they wouldn’t check it out and verify it was still ok! Then the screen issue occurred and they refused to cover it under any of their other warranty issues that were out there either that it might have fallen under. And to make it worse, I don’t know if I can use it with an external monitor as I can’t get figure out how to get it to recognize an external monitor! So disappointed that it will cost at least $680 for the repaired screen - and no guarantee it won’t occur again - that instead I replaced it with a Dell Inspiron 5505 AMD Ryzen 7 upgraded it with an additional 32 GB (and can be upgraded to 64GB) RAM and an additional 1TB of storage - and it cost about the same price as the repair to that now outdated Apple MBP!

March 2021, I just opened my laptop after it had been resting behind my minor on a stand for months and it has a crack. It is hair thin, not sure at all how it got there since I have NEVER dropped it and I JUST RECEIVED it in January from my employer.

I did not realize it because I use a monitor, so I never really open it or carry it around my apartment. This is too soon to be happening.

I will try to contact apple to see what they will do, but after reading so many comments here, it is obvious that this is happening to so many people. This has never happened to be before and I have had apple computers since 2001!

Glad I am not alone.

My Macbook Pro 2020 13 inch's screen cracked randomly after only one month of usage. I have the same issue. Closed laptop to go to the store, came home to see my laptop screen was cracked when i opened it again... Couldn't feel the cracks on the outside, cracks were internal. I have had this laptop for just ONE MONTH. It's a laptop, it should be safe for travel. It has been sitting on my desk for work the whole duration of this month. How is this possible? I can't believe Apple is making me pay for repair. It's obvious this is an error on their side. My old Macbook Pro was almost six before showing signs of decay. This is a joke! Apple needs to recognise this error

I know this is an older thread but my 2019 MacBook Pro has the exact same issue! I was so confused when I went to clean my MacBook screen and saw a crack at the bottom of the screen? I have absolutely no idea how it had happened and I was just so confused. Surely if their wasn’t something there to cause it to crack I would have noticed when closing it or opening it?

Hi there, I am trying to find the time to take my MacPro to a 'genius'. I have recorded a lengthy discussion with apple about this so stay tuned for the outcome. But to summarise, Apple support can ONLY refer you to a genius who will then lay down the bad news. Allowing the genius to inspect the MacBook pro may also cost you money. However, due to the vast number of complaints about the same fault, this is without question a product fault and not the fault of loyal apple users. This is the same sort of problem as the browning and eventual perishing of charger USB C wires. This may mean that apple will have to issue a recall and fix for all MacBook pros with this screen issue. If you do go to apple support make sure you state that you are aware of the thousands of responses on this forum to your problem and we should all eventually get apple to make a statement about the product fault. Thanks

Your visit to an Apple-owned store Genius Bar is free, in warranty or out. But because of high demand, you MUST have an appointment, or you will not be seen.

Apple-Authorized Service Providers may charge an evaluation fee, to ensure that the cost of their highly-paid technicians is not frivolous. If they do any repair work for a fee or under Apple warranty, your evaluation was not frivilous, and you should ask them to rebate the cost of the evaluation.
