iPad Pro 10.5 screen randomly freezes - anyone else have this?

Brand new (obviously) iPad Pro 10.5. It happens, very intermittently but it happens. It's like the touch screen is dead. Double-clicking the home button brings up the task list. You can then move to a different app. But then the screen is still dead. Turning the screen off and on will reset things, so that the screen becomes live again. Frustrating and not something I've ever seen before. This is my fourth iPad. Maybe it's defective? Just wondering is it just me or do other people see this too.

Mine got a lot better with 11.3 but then restarted with the issue a few days later. Took it to Apple store and they replaced it. Tech said it’s most likely a logic board issue. While reduce motion, and disabling promotion helps this gimps your iPad un necessarily. Just get it replaced. Seems like a known issue they’re just not making public.

I have an iPad Pro 10.5 and the same problem - somtimes. Only today, 31 DEC 17, I opened a NEWS APP and when I clicked on a story the page that came up was ‘white’ - nothing else on the screen but white. I could not get rid of it with any kind of tapping. Closed the APP and when I double clicked the HOME button I could swipe the page off and went back into the APP and comntinued reading NEWS. But when I clicked on that one article that white page came up again. Went through the same process and recovered. So, I then went to TELEGRAM, did an update and saw the new wallpapers. Then I checked out the new wallpapers and when I clicked on one of the wallpapers it popped up and froze and would not let me do anything in the APP. I then did the same HOME button, double click and swipe off. Went back to the APP and it works fine - unless I touch that background thing. OK, that may be the APP and I’ve written TELEGRAM about it. So far the screen has not frozen again when reading online. Hope that was just a fluck and it doesn’t happen again.

My wife’s iPad Pro 12.5 G2 is working fine.......so far. Actually the 12.5 G2 is an really nice device.

A few other things really confuses/bother me though. Like now, I’m using a Magic Keyboard ⌨ to write this reply. While all works as normal if I use an arrow key, to scroll up or down, the whole page moves to the very bottom of the web page but if I hold the arrow key down it does move within the text - I just can’t see it until I go back up to the page I’m writing on. Strange.

Looking forward to more comments as this delima unravels.

I too have this issue, with a 12” iPad Pro (256GB). It happens a number of times each day, and the screen responds normally after a slow count of 5. On some occasions, letters are missed during fast typing. Sometimes it seems as though a firm touch is required to get a response. These are all transient; the pad is still useable. I got the pad in August 2017 and first noticed the dead screen behavior in Pages; over the next few months it cropped up in other apps.

You can add me too the list too. I got my 64 gb iPad Pro 10.5 in December and at first I just thought it was a clash of clans issue until I started noticing it in other apps. I spent 30 minuets with Apple support this morning and all I got was the restart everything and update the os. I didn’t want to update from 10.3.3 because I didn’t want to loose my 32 bit apps but the support guy led me to believe there were hardware fixes in the new update.

Anyway, I don’t understand why Apple just continues to ignore these threads and this issue. it’s really frustrating.

Unfortunately the problem returned even after switching to 60 hz. I called apple support and went to authorized service center and they didn't find any hardware problem. At first they said the problem was screen protector and Smart Cover now they say it is apps I installed. How frustrating. They don't accept that the problem exists and wouldnt exchange the device. Interestingly Apple Pencil works perfectly every time.

I am on my second iPad pro 10.5 that has had the exact same problem. I spend money on gaming, and the freezing touchpad just wastes my money since it is nearly impossible to play. They said they won't fix it. But I can get a refund. So irritating. This is the only Apple product I have left and will likely be my last. When a company as innovative as Apple used to be, their inability to support users or provide transparency around issues like this make them a future no go for me. When you spend almost a thousand bucks on something, you'd think there would be more support around issues that hundreds of not thousands of their customers are experiencing...

Ya I meant second gen Pro and even older gen Pro like 9.7 or 12.9 first gen Pro. Even my iPad is from 2017 . I have 1 month left , heck I think only 10 days left for warranty. And this problem is hard to reproduce in front of them and they would suggest various stuff which we all tried here. For me which I surf web on safari with both hands , problem mostly occurs ,if I keep the iPad on desk and operate rarely it happens , it can take 2 or 3 iOS 12 patches to solve , for the other problem I told wake up screen was solved after long time like December 2017.So I guess we can only hope apple solve the problem, I am losing faith in apple devices now , was using iPad since 5 years with no problem .

same problem here with a Pro 10.5. digitizer freezes from about a second to more than five seconds. this ipad was bought one year ago and have had light use. it is updated with latest software. writing text is also a nightmare as there are lots of missing letters. i have asked repair official service and they ask for 500 Euros to fix it!! :-(

I paid 850 Euros just one year ago!

Mine was freezing on both the swiping up and down also the keyboard randomly froze. Phoned helpline and advised to do a total restore which I did. For about two weeks it was fine and then yesterday started freezing again ...... two days before my warranty ends (having already had a replacement iPad in September because i got a permanent line across the screen but had no freezing on that one so maybe should have lived with the line rather than the freezing!)

anyway, phoned Apple and they said to send it to them. Not hopeful reading comments as it would appear to be an inbuilt fault on this model. ☹
