iPhone alarm is silent randomly

Hi everyone,

Since a few weeks it happens that my alarm clock doesn't come on with sound every time. When I wake up and set it just for checking, it rings again. It happened about 5 times, one time I woke up while it was alerting, but only the screen showed the alarm.

I really depend on this alarm clock but I can not trust it anymore :-( what to do?

I've actually watched the alarm go off but it did not vibrate NOR sound. The thing is, I have set like 5 alarms for the AM. It is weird considering that some alarms actually do sound, but one or two do not.

I've read the suggestions:

Confirmed: Do Not Disturb is NOT on

Confirmed: Not connected to any bluetooth device

Confirmed: Each alarms is set to sound

Im glad (but not really because it sucks) to see other people having this issue, I thought I was going crazy! I switched from a 6s to an Xr a while back, and the alarm on my new phone would go off, and then after I pressed snooze it wouldn’t make sound again. When I woke up, an hour after I was supposed to be up, I could see the alarm on my screen, but no sound. I started using my old phone as an alarm clock, having to keep two phones plugged in and charging, but it has now updated to the new iOS and this morning it did the same thing! Apple needs to fix this!! It should be so easy!! I shouldn’t have to go buy a new alarm clock just to make sure I can make it to school and work on time!!!

Fixing an intermittent bug (or, more likely, a couple) that affects a comparatively small number of people is one of the harder things to do. The difficulty is compounded when people post here but don't also let Apple know by calling customer support, taking the phone into an Apple Store or leaving feedback. All of those things create a record that the right people at Apple see. Posting here doesn't do that.

Yeah this has got me in trouble a few times now for being late to work.. The ringer is full volume and there is a sound choice is selected, no doubt about it. I actually have the exact same problem on my ipad - I turn my timezone to CST and set the alarm, and I wake up and see that it doesn't go off and the timezone is set to PST. So maybe related to having a weak 4g connection? Wish you guys would consider this a priority though - seems to me that the user is clearly not to blame here.

HOW TO FIX IT: finally got mine to work after months of struggling with these issues. Go to settings>accessibility>voice control>attention aware and make sure that the attention aware feature is OFF. This has finally made my alarm consistently work, I hope it will help some of you.

Given that the person you replied to posted back in mid 2017, there's a very good chance they didn't have a phone with Attention Awareness. Yes, this is an answer for some people. But ,it's not the only thing that causes this symptom.

And, of course, this solution has been mentioned a number of times already in this very thread.

just Like everyone else here this has happened to me a few times over the last few years and has caused me to be late for work, meetings, and even a flight once.

just yesterday it happened again - I have an iPhone 8 for context. I woke up an hour late to the “alarm going off” screen on my phone but no noise coming. I was in a hotel for work and supposed to meet my boss in the morning and head to a meeting. I missed the meeting and am now facing disciplinary action at work.

How has this happened to so many of us, and affected so many people so negatively yet nothing has been done?? People rely on their phone alarms, it’s one of the simplest yet most crucial features of an iPhone to so many people. I am a long term and avid iPhone user but we need reliability in our iPhones apple or I will be going somewhere else

The thing is, it hasn't happened to very many people. It seems to be a number of bugs that each happen to a small percentage of iPhone users. Most people probably don't even report it to Apple. Intermittent bugs that happen to only a small number of people are among the hardest to troubleshoot, even when Apple knows about them. We also don't know what Apple is doing about it. For all we know, they could be working on it very hard but just haven't figured out all of the issues.

Those of us who remember alarm clocks also remember that they failed occasionally, too.

Seriously... these phones are so expensive. I’ve never had this problem before and it’s incredibly annoying. My phone will play my alarm loudly for a second and then turn off. Literally a second 😐😐 and all the Apple responses don’t help... This phone is $700 and up and it can’t set a simple alarm when my iPhone 6 could? This is why didn’t want an “upgrade”. No one can tell me why this expensive phone can’t set an alarm like my iPhone 6 either 😐

yes! i am having the same exact problem , i set 2 alarms every morning and one keeps failing on me! it’s ridiculous. tbh there’s a lot of little technical issues i’ve had with my iphones over the past year or so splintered switching back to apple, issues i never had with my galaxy.. 🤔

Make sure that the alarms are not too close together. There appears to be an issue where, if you snooze the first alarm and, while it's snoozed, the second one goes off, the second one won't sound and the first one might not sound again.
