iPhone alarm is silent randomly

Hi everyone,

Since a few weeks it happens that my alarm clock doesn't come on with sound every time. When I wake up and set it just for checking, it rings again. It happened about 5 times, one time I woke up while it was alerting, but only the screen showed the alarm.

I really depend on this alarm clock but I can not trust it anymore :-( what to do?

My alarm was also going silent after a single alert. Just started doing this after I got a replacement and figured out that it was because "Attention Aware Features" was turned on. When I turned the feature off, alarm started working as normal. I think the feature turns alarm to silent as soon as I move it or it recognizes my face ID.

To turn it off go to Settings-->Face ID and Passcode--> Attention Aware Features = off

1) Yes, the "Attention Aware" setting will drastically lower the sound volume level of a currently ringing alarm, simply by looking at the display and having your face recognized. This can be annoying, or it can be convenient, depending on your needs.

2) Yes, the "Attention Aware" feature has nothing to do with the silent-alarm problem, which has been around for years.

I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max currently on ios13.2.2 and I noticed that my alarm is not effected by the volume settings at all. All of my volume settings are set to max and whenever the alarm goes off it can’t be heard. I’ve been playing around with it for about 20min now, resetting it over and over and each alarm it is still almost silent. I went to the do not disturb and silents options but non have any effect on how loud my alarm sounds.

I’ve done that. Definitely not a volume issue. It happens with certain apps too. If I’m relaxing with my Pluto app open (for some background noise) with an alarm set, the alarm only sounds once and it’s very quiet, almost as if I’m looking at the phone, but I’ve turned off the “look for face” thing (where the alarm sounds quietly if you’re looking at the phone) and I always have the screen turned away from me anyway.

ive also noticed the phone won’t go to screen lock if I’m in particular apps as well (my Roku remote control app, fb, etc) no matter how much time has passed.

Lol sorry I know I got a little excited and thought you might have another idea of how to fix it. I often use the alarm on my lunch break, and I like using video apps bc the sound creates white noise while I’m relaxing at lunch. A few times, though, I missed the alarm and went over on my break, and I don’t have a physical/dedicated alarm at work. But I shouldn’t have to have one - when you spend $700 on something you just want it to work lol. Especially something as simple as an alarm. Very frustrating.

My alarm doesn’t make a sound. The notification comes up on the screen but nothing vibrates or goes off. This just started happening about a week ago. I’ve checked online forums and ran through all Apples troubleshooting. I hate using apple but rn I’m stuck with the iPhone unfortunately because I don’t have a choice. Why won’t my alarm work? Please fix your sh** apple it’s almost 2020.

Im glad (but not really because it sucks) to see other people having this issue, I thought I was going crazy! I switched from a 6s to an Xr a while back, and the alarm on my new phone would go off, and then after I pressed snooze it wouldn’t make sound again. When I woke up, an hour after I was supposed to be up, I could see the alarm on my screen, but no sound. I started using my old phone as an alarm clock, having to keep two phones plugged in and charging, but it has now updated to the new iOS and this morning it did the same thing! Apple needs to fix this!! It should be so easy!! I shouldn’t have to go buy a new alarm clock just to make sure I can make it to school and work on time!!!
