So I've been talking to Apple Customer Support for a day and a half now. The issue seems to be getting more and more prevalent over thelast couple of days. My iPad suddenly got locked this way as well, and it looks like it was mainly devices which did not have passcodes on hem which were affected (my iPad did not).

At the moment, restoring the device seems like the only way to fix his, but that means you'll lose all your data. The conversation was left where the Senior Adviser told me to wait a few days because obviously this is an issue affecting a lot of people and the engineers at Apple might work out a way to fix this without having to delete all your data. So that's what I'm doing.

We weren't able to unlock or reset it but we had to send it into recovery which restores it back to factory setting and takes up to 3 days. We went to icloud.com and signed in with the apple ID that is locked and followed the steps to unlock account.

We called apple twice, the first lady we spoke with had no idea what to do and was very little help but when we called again we got someone that helped us get it in to recovery.

I don't know what's going on but Apple is really starting to **** me off. I have been buying apple and paying their premium prices generally to avoid situations like this. So, this happens... And instead of helping solve the problem, they add so many hoops, mis informed customer service reps, and they are telling me to go to the apple store which is 22 Miles away. I asked how much it would cost and customer service rep can't even answer that. Now nobody is picking up. I've been on hold listening to crappy music, then it stops and nobody pics up the phone. Common apple.

Really not sure what this has got to do with Apple except that they are assisting you to resolve a mess you got into yourself by letting others know your passwords. Just take it to the store like you've been told and put the cost of all this down to experience and hopefully you'll learn to be a little more careful with security.

I just find the way to unlock your phone. It happen to me and the Service of apple didn't make the thinks easer.

The only thing I did with my phone was change my SIM to another phone and get the number of verification of apple when you access to unlock your phone in iCloud.com Then you get it!, change your password and it's done, its unlock, without restore the phone. Then I put back the SIM in my iPhone and wait a moment then click the finger bottom and put your password and DONE your phone has been unlock and your data too. If it work this to you, let me know, cause apple service want to make me with a lot of time and also earse the iPhone device of my account of iCloud, losing all my data.

unlock.device@gmx.com problem with iphones.

I figured out how to fix the issue. You need to have the latest version of ITunes. The you do a hard reset by holding down both the home key and the screen of button. Apple resets but the virus remains. however, if you continue to hold down the buttons while you do the hard reset, apple enters into recovery mode. a blue screen appears with a usb cable. Then go into Itunes and it will tell you your phone is compromised and needs to be recovered, do this and the phone will be like new, then as long as you have itunes it makes regular backups, and you can restore all your contacts and data.

Problem solved.

Do not worry if this happens to you and more importantly do not email that .gmx address (although someone at Apple support told me it was a genuine Apple address - it is not, they need some additional training I think!)

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of week ago. iPhone went into lost mode whilst someone was trying to access my Apple ID - they then sent my Macbook into Lost mode and ask for a non-existent passcode and the whole device was locked with the same message - write to email a gmx.com address.

A local Apple authorised tech told me they would have to wipe my MacBook to unlock it so I fretted a while whilst I waited for my genius appointment.

I took it to the Apple store and the tech team there could not have been more helpful. My Macbook was rebooted at start up which produced a long code. They then used this code and liaised with another department to create a programme specifically for my Macbook, they put this programme onto a USB, rebooted again and Macbook unlocked, restored to normal with nothing wiped. It took about 1 1/2 hours.

Hello Everyone!

I had this problem happen on August 18th and found the only way to fix it and make sure the virus is gone. You'll need to have a separate external hard drive big enough to put all the files you don't want to lose on to. I recommend a 2T (terabyte).

I got the notification that my iCloud was being accessed on my iPhone 7 plus when my computer shut down on its own and came back up asking for a 4 digit code and an email saying write to applehelp@caramail.***.

I changed my iCloud password right a way. Called apple and this is the steps I took and will need to be taken to have this whole issue resolved. You will need to call an apple store and make an appointment with them explaining your iCloud has been hacked and that you need to have the firmware code removed. Bring your receipt or a copy of the receipt to the apple store or they will not help you. It should take an hour at most to remove the firmware, and if they tell you that they have to erase your computer, THEY DO NOT HAVE TO BUT IT WILL NEED TO BE DONE AT SOME POINT UNLESS YOU HAVE A LEGIT SOFTWARE THAT CAN REMOVE IT. Once the firmware is unlocked, you may still have it show on your screen or a count down to type in password until the 4 digit code pops back up. This part is important so please follow just as Ive written. Shut down your computer. When you go to turn it back on, THE SECOND you let go of the power button press these 4 keys at the same time:( option, command, r, p) You will hear one chime from the start up, after the second chime let go, and then there will be a third chime. At this point you should be able to get back into the computer. DO NOT use time machine to back up your computer because you will just be saving the virus on to the computer and just repeating the process. Manually move everything you do not want to lose on the external hard drive. After doing so, you will need to erase your computer and reinstall OS software. Now before you start putting stuff back onto your computer from the external hard drive, obtain a safe and legal software that will left you scan the external hard drive to make sure no viruses are on it. I use Avast and that is my go to but the reason it will not able to pick up this virus is accessed through Icloud and not through anything else. (This is what the tech in apple explained to me) I also noticed that people with the two-factor authentication are less likely to have any other files corrupted on the computer and just a firmware lock. The people that do not have this and have security questions only seem to have even files that even after getting back into their computer are still corrupted. To erase my computer, I just googled a how to and 10 million pages popped up. Just make sure to follow them right so you don't erase something you shouldnt have (Like I did and had to call apple support to figure out why a disk was not showing up for me to reinstall OS software on to). I hope this works for y'all and good luck!

Hi! I confirm that code worked also on my 2012 MacBook air!!! Now it works perfectly again. I hope i won't experience further problems.

Though I have a MacBook pro 2017 still blocked and unable to fix it.

Those 2 got blocked at the same time while they were ibernated (I received 2 emails per laptop while I was at work each couple saying that my account was violated and laptop blocked).

I spent 1 hour with Apple customer care: after uploading my invoice they told me I anyway would need to get to the closer Apple centre to get them fixed.

I have been using Apple laptops for years. Never stumbled into such weird thing.

Do you want to know my personal opinion?

APPLE IS JUST NOT A RELIABLE COMPANY ANYMORE!

And Apple ICLOUD makes our privacy completely blasted and our computers extremely vulnerable to hackers attacks.

sad but terribly true.

Cheers from Italy
