iPhone 7+ home "button" cracked!!

So, earlier this week I went to unlock my phone by using the home sensor and it wouldn't work. A message popped up and said my I'd touch wasn't working and my assistive touch button was on the screen. So I pressed on it to see if it would work (I was hoping guys) and it cracked. Now obviously there is no way I could have pressed down hard enough to crack it. I have never dropped it. I have a case on it that lips over the front in case of a face drop. Lastly, only the home button getting cracked and there being no other physical damage seems a little far fetched for a dropped phone ( which I have never dropped). That all being said I went into apple today to explain and of course they do not cover it and it falls under accidental damage. $169 fee still under limited warranty. I'm not the first person this has happened to. I have read many people's stories about the same thing happening to them after what happend to me. I found it is actually a real thing that happens. Obviously it's a malfunction.. I was really disappointed that I couldn't fix the phone for a cheaper price or get a replacement. Anyone else have this issue?

I went to my closest Genius Bar yesterday. He told me what I said in my original post. That the glass needed to fixed but basically their is no way the button broke under my touch alone (which it did). It is still under limited warranty since I have only had it 7 months. $169. I didn't get offered a replacement only if their were other things wrong that were covered under limited warranty. It wouldn't be a big deal to pay the $169 if I knew I dropped it it was my fault but like I said I didn't drop it. I pushed the home sensor and it cracked.

Same thing has happened to my phone-

It was sitting on a bench, when i went back to it the home button was broken, then the overheating began and then i noticed the crack (It drains my battery now aswell). I went to Apple and they said i needed to pay for the repair.

This is Apples issue, they need to resolve it and replace these phones.

When I told Apple that this same thing happened to me they kept saying things like “I’ve worked for Apple for 11 years, and I’ve never heard of that happening. “ Then I show them this discussion thread and they say, “Well, we believe you, but you still need to pay for the repair because it is not a known issue. “ All of our stories are exactly the same. It cannot be a coincidence! Very frustrating.

I’ll also join the group on this one. I was working with my iPhone 7 in my pocket with nothing else. I pulled it out to text my wife with no problem. 10 minutes later I grab it and it’s rebooting with a small crack across the home button. Comes up with the message that Touch ID isn’t responding. Took it to the Genius Bar that night where they said it it would be $315 to fix it (replace the screen). Now the battery is draining extremely fast and the “button” is heating up sporadically. I’ve only had this phone for a year. It replaced my first one when that one quit getting cell signal. Now I’m stuck between having to charge my phone every few hours or spend the money to get a new one. This wouldn’t bother me if I had damaged it, but clearly this is a problem with the phones that Apple should fix.

Bought a new iPhone 7 last night, got it all setup, was very happy with it, then went to bed. Got up this morning to find a small crack had appeared on the home button. I am taking this up with Apple and the shop where I bought it, and have an appointment next week. Will update here. Was wondering though, is it still ok to use the phone in the meantime? Or will the crack only get worse? It all seems to be working ok, fingerprint ID and everything, it's only a small crack on the edge of the home button (something I would put down to wear and tear on an older phone).

Adding to this thread because this just happened to my wife’s iPhone 8. The phone was just sitting on the counter. Nothing touched it. The “Touch ID disabled” notification came on and when she touched the home button, it shattered. It had been working perfectly just a few minutes prior. How frustrating that Apple is not acknowledging this as an issue if so many people have experienced it.

Update on my case, the shop where I bought it did replace it for no charge. They said they thought it looked like impact damage, but took my word for it and agreed to exchange. I think it helped that I alerted them the next day after buying it, and saw the same staff in the shop as when I bought it. If it had happened 6 months down the line I doubt they would have agreed to an exchange. I'd recommend to anyone with this same problem when talking to Apple or the store, to point to this thread - over 350 people can't be raising this issue on here for fun.

The same thing happened to me 3 hours ago. The phone was in my empty pocket for not more than 1 minute, I didn't hurt nothing and I didn't drop it. When I tried to take it from the pocket I felt like a little splinter in my hand and I thought "what the **** there's in my pocket?!?" well, there was nothing else that my dead iPhone with the home button cracked! I tried to switch it on but it's not working, it's just showing me the white screen with apple logo and a black one in loop, and in the meanwhile the home button is super hot.

Just a few moment before all that the phone was working perfectly, and it never appeared the warning message that someone get...

I had the same thing happen last week. My phone randomly shut off on me and did not want to turn on for a while. I held the lock button and took forever to reboot. Next thing I see Touch ID disabled and there’s a crack on my home button. All this happened by holding my phone, didn’t even drop it... crazy to see how many people have this same issue and we have to be charged. And my phone died once so far and takes forever to reboot and turn on. I hope they soon create a recall because this is ridiculous so many have issues whether they had it for a day or a year like me.

I’ve dropped my phone many times, but I keep it in an otter box and it has no scratches or damage at all. I was very surprised to find my home button cracked and not working from just sitting it in my car while I loaded up the car to head to the beach. I’m disappointed that Apple doesn’t seem to be recognizing this issue. For those of you who paid for repair, does the long reboot issue resolve after repair?

This just happened to me as well. Phone was in my pocket and I was listening to a book on tape. Phone got hot and the next thing I knew it was rebooting, for about an hour, and then I got the message about not being able to use touch ID and the assistive button showed up on the screen. Home button is cracked and hot. My phone wasn't dropped and it is always in an otterbox with a zagg protector (which I realize doesn't cover the home button). How many people have to have this issue for apple to recognize it as an issue??
