USB AC wall Adapter Interchangeable?

Are the USB AC wall Adapter model 1357(10w) and 1358(5w) interchangeable for charging with my iPAD Mini 2 and iPhone SE? I have used the model 1358 (5W) for both with no problems wondering if same applies for the model 1357 (10w)?

You can use higher power charger. The way the electricity works is that at fixed voltage (which is the same for all the USB chargers - except for some cheap Chinese knockoffs) the charger will not pump more current that the device wants to accept.

Marcin is absolutely right here. If you dissect bona fide Apple chargers and then dissect a knockoff charger you'd be stunned at the difference in build quality, isolation of power and ground, and the quality of chipsets used. If you measure the output voltage Apple chargers will have clean steady 5v and the knockoffs will be all over the place. This is less important than the charging cables themselves --Apple and MFI certified chargers have a chipset embedded in the end of the cable that includes an elaborate NXP protection load switch. Knockoff cables do not have this chipset and can and do kill iPhone charging systems and the entire phone when combined with knock off chargers.

The only chargers I refer to as knockoffs are the ones where they are built to look like Apple chargers, including an Apple logo. Like 90% of the ones sold on Amazon.

No argument there. They are clearly counterfeit.

There are also cheap chargers out there that don't try to be a knockoff but they are erratic in their output and can cause damage to devices. It doesn't take much of a search to discover any of this and the results from a bad charger can be quite serious.

I have three at home like that that I've been using for some ten years for iPads, iPods and iPhones. I also have one in my car like that that I've been using for five years for two different iPhones. Not the slightest hint of damage.

I did have one Apple-branded charger that went up in smoke while charging a Bose headphone set. Fortunately the Bose was not damaged but the wall around the receptacle didn't fare so well.

I was not defending counterfeit chargers. I was defending non-Apple chargers and, if you read my response to deggie, you'll see that I've had better experiences with them than with Apple-branded chargers.

I never said that Apple chargers were the only good ones. Of course if you are using an Apple charger it reduces on argument if there is a problem. MFi chargers also tend to be well built. And there are some from other reputable companies I have used. But I stay away from the $2 chargers in the the cheap bins.

Gee, you had trouble with ONE charger so that just proves they are bad. You do know that the plural of anecdote is not data, right? And how do you know it wasn't the Bose that damaged the charger? Or the mains?

It really doesn't PROVE anything but it's interesting that I've had ZERO problems with my cheap chargers. I absolutely positively know that it wasn't the Bose because I've been using it and charging it on a regular basis since that incident two years ago, mostly with the cheap off-brand chargers but occasionally with a "cheap Chinese Apple" charger.

Don't get me started on the mains. I have a background that I don't think anyone else can match.

I am aware of your background but that does not mean there could not have been a problem. Are you saying that Bose are cheap chargers?

If you want to buy $2 chargers and use them with $500 and up electronic devices that is your choice but I would never recommend to anyone here that they do so. I've seen the differences which you could to if you took a bit of time. I've also seen devices that have been damaged and fires that have been started. Just because there is a standard doesn't mean that everyone builds to the same quality level with the same parts.

On the other hand, I've seen a MAJOR problem with (one) Apple-branded charger (that potentially could have destroyed my home) and zero major problems with the cheapies. I should insist on Apple-branding?

Of course, I'm not saying that Bose chargers are cheap.
