OK, so the article I linked indicated that you should have been asked when you upgraded to iOS 9.3 if you wanted to use iCloud. You could have said yes or later. But, you are indicating that you now have iCloud Drive set up on your iOS device under:

Settings>tap your name at top>iCloud>scroll down to make sure that iCloud Drive is turned ON, and that iBooks just below that is also turned ON.

Have you checked in the Files App (used to be called iCloud Drive App) to see if the books are showing there with a cloud next to them?) If so, then you can download those, and they should then appear in the iBooks app.

Do you have enough iCloud Storage to house the data? You get 5GB free, but if the ePub books take up more room than that, you will need to increase your iCloud Storage: iCloud storage upgrades and downgrades - Apple Support

Please go through the article step by step to ensure that you have everything set as required in the article: Use iCloud Drive or iBooks to access your PDF files, ePub files, and books - Apple Support

This would be for your iOS device and iCloud only, if you are running a PC.

A PC would need to have iCloud for Windows: Download iCloud for Windows - Apple Support

Then, not sure if you have files on the PC that you also want downloaded, you may have to move them to iCloud Drive manually.

I am not tryinig to get a load of Epub books. I am just trying to prove that I can transfer an Epub or a PDF from iCloud onto the iPad so that it can be read in the iBooks app on the iPad. I have read the article: Set up and use iCloud for Windows - Apple Support but this seems to cover photographs etc. When you look on the iCloud settings it doesn't mention books? Sorry this is driving me round the bend. All because Apple took the Books function out of the latest iTunes upgrade! Even the 2 Apple technicians I have spoken to can't understand this. No one from Apple or the Forum seems in anyway apologetic about this. So I am still stuck. And I do not have loads of Epub books I am just trying this out with 1 Ebook and 1 PDF. But I cannot get these to show up in iBooks on my iPad.

That is not the article I was referring to. See this article for step by step instructions for getting your ePub books from iCloud Drive to iBooks: Use iCloud Drive or iBooks to access your PDF files, ePub files, and books - Apple Support

The Books setting is under Settings>Your Name>iCloud. You have to have iCloud Drive turned on, and below that, you will see the list of apps that can sync with iCloud Drive.

As I indicated in my post, you need to go to Settings>Photos. You will see the iCloud Photo Library at the top of the screen.

Also, you probably want to make sure you have closed the iTunes app on your computer, the re-open it after the setting is changed.

Simple answer would appear to be, you don't.

You would have to sync them through the app itself, which does not allow PDFs that are not on the store to be synced it seems, well at least as far as I can tell. I really would like to be shown how if it is possible.

PDFs I had on my Ipad before the update are still there, but I have no way to get others on with the iBooks app.

When I spoke to Apple Tech Support who confirmed that they had removed the Books function (which means that one's PDFs can't be downloaded from PC/MAC). He suggested BUTnot company policy going back to older version. So I have un-installed the latest version of iTunes. (One needs to do this in the right order and also take some other steps. I have written the procedure and sent it to the Magazine Computer Active - maybe they will publish it). I then installed iTunes version 12.1.3.6 (64bit). Rescanned my music library (cleaned up a few of the messes that iTunes made). Now I can download PDFs and EPUB books that haven't come via the Mighty Directorial Apple! This removal of the function as an engineer made me really angry at Apple. So you could like me go back to an earlier version that does what you want in the book/PDF area. Good luck.

I too have experienced the same problem and had already started another thread here a couple of days ago. I didn't want to spend the time and effort to go back to the previous iTunes version. Since then I've signed up for iCloud Drive, updated the iPad to iOS 11.0.3 and tried the iCloud/Files app/iBooks app route. Still has glitches and is cumbersome. Hard to believe that major system upgrades (iOS and iTunes) would downgrade the simple ability to store and read pdfs and other owned books on iPads.

Sarelth, what is the name of the app you've found to use for your pdfs?

I set up iCloud (via Browser) on my PC. But it only allows upload of TXT, Word. You cannot upload PDF or EPub!!

I tried using the Apple Pages but this doesn't work. Tried Word on iPad but this only seems to see One Drive. I use PDF for my talks in church and my iPad to read them. But Apple appears to have cut this route off completely. Maybe I should ditch Apple/iPad etc. can go over to an Android Tablet and avoid this sort of draconian decision by Apple.

Here is a way round download the Adobe PDF Reader from the Apple store to the iPad (or other Apple device). Ensure that you have a DropBox account. Download the DropBox account from Apple Store. Set up your accounts. Also on PC or Mac have a dropbox connection. Put PDF in a folder on DropBox. Then connect to it and download on the iPad using PDF reader. Appears to work. I might even go back to the latest version of iTunes if this proves satisfactory. I'm sorry but I am not a happy bunny with Apple.

After spending several hours this past week trying to find a solution to this problem via searching this support discussion board and other sources, I've come to the conclusion that my 3+ years-old library of technical pdfs will no longer be available to me on my iPad (latest model) as it once was prior to iTunes 12.7/iOS 11.0.3 iBooks.

Since I don't think that rolling back to previous versions of iTunes is the way to go, I am now in the quandary of waiting to see if an iOS 11.0.4 or later version fixes it or just move on to some other solution -- a different pdf reader app or another mobile device. Any comments?

Note: Several years ago after purchasing an iPad 2, I used the GoodReader app for my fledgling pdf library. Looks like it warrants some re-examination now.
