Can't play ringtone in iOS 11

I tried your method of purchasing another ringtone from the store and setting it as the default. This worked, but only for that ringtone. When I tried switching to one of my other ringtones, it went back to default.

I did try the earlier suggestion of selecting the default, quitting the settings program and restarting. This did not fix anything either...and I have a ton of ringtones. For me this ONLY affected ringtones, my text alerts that were bought worked fine from the get-go... stumped.

Because some purchased ringtones work and other don’t, and mine was a customized ringtone, I suspect the issue may be in the format of the audio file or something along those lines. Nothing else makes sense.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression purchasing one ringtone and selecting it would somehow let all the others work. For most people, they just have a ringtone that isn't default and they were getting upset at having to have their phone ring with the default tone every time. This seems to be the only way to stop the default tone from ringing, but it won't solve the overall larger issue with all your selected ringtones. It's just a simple solution for the primary tone until Apple releases a fix.

Tried this but it doesn't work. The ringtones are in my iTunes library and are on my phone. When I pick a custom ringtone under sounds, it plays. but when i call my phone the default rings. Big glitch even with the 11.0.2 update

NO! I am NOT going to give up all of the ringtones Apple forced me to buy! This glitch needs to be FIXED!!! How could they have rolled this update out without testing this glitch??? I’ve been involved in IT testing for many years and this never would have gotten by!!! I’m about ready to get an android and forget Apple!!!

I know. We hate Apple. I had to buy this ringtone made from a song I’d ALREADY purchased back when that was the methodology. If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s Apple figuring out how to make a buck. It’s never just a new phone but cables, ear buds, cases, car adapters... 😡

You sound like a spoiled child. Apple didn't force you to buy a single ringtone. Did someone from Apple come to your house and force you to click purchsase? Of course not. And to be honest, since we're just users we don't care if you go Android. Like Android doesn't ever have issues itself.......LOL

Sorry but I agree with the guy ranting! I to have many specialized ringtones that I use to recognize callers! I paid over 900 for my phone and fully expect it to function properly, this may be petty to you but for lots of us it’s a rather big deal

I've never trivialized this and I understand for some, this is an issue. But in the scheme of life issues, not having one's personalized ringtones, while maybe inconvenient, is not such a big deal it's worth ranting over. Apple always fixes issues like this and you can be assured a solution will be coming. Just be a little patient, unless is just makes you happy to whine?

Garage Band work-around satisfied me only because I basically remade the one custom ringtone that I use as my default ringtone. I realize that this is not monitored by Apple, but this should still be fixed for those that use ringtones as a caller ID, and for non-working purchased ringtones.

It's waaaaay too early to give up hope. Apple won't discuss what issues they are working on in advance. You can expect a resolution will roll off the Apple Engineering line at some point. Too many people have complained and written Apple about this.

I also have an issue with texting. When I chose a person to text from contacts and click the mobile number it goes back to the list of all my last messages? It doesn't go the blank screen for me text the person. Also when reading an email now and turning the phone sideways to make the screen wider, a dumb side box pops up and blocks half the message? Any help for these?

Yes, mine didn’t fix either and after talking with Apple tech, there probably won’t be anyway to retrieve text or ringtones. I even lost ones I purchased so they gave me 3 movie rentals! Really?!! They claim they can’t refund tones. I bought a few more and made new rin

I have an iPhone 8 running 11.0.3 and had the same issue. What I did was sync with iTunes. I haven't done this in quite some time because I always let back up to iCloud automatically. After synching, I went to Settings, Sounds & Haptics,

Ringtone, Download all purchased ringtones. Worked for me.

“Not Solved” - As numerous replies have noted. For me personally, all techniques from this thread have yielded no improvement. From what I understand, a similar bug happened in some former iOS updates. Seems Apple is familiar with the mechanism. Disappointed it was not addressed in 11.03 patch.
