iOS 11 incredibly slow on iPhone 7 Plus

So frustrated - iOS11 installed perfectly and works great on my iPad Pro. Installed on my iPhone 7plus (with 90GB free space) a few hours later and the phone is essentially unusable. The install went OK but when I click on any app (3rd party or native iOS - like Mail or Messenger) - there is a 20 second delay before the app opens. Unable to make or receive phone calls, texts.

Reset network settings, then all settings, then a complete erase / restore - still slow as Christmas. My phone, at this time, is essentially useless. Google Searches don't show this as a common problem - I'm hoping someone here has experienced this and has a suggestion?

I have the exact same thing. No sounds, no sound during calls, no vibration, horrible delay before any app opens. Useless phone. This is absurd. I restored and powerd off/on a million times. Nothing helps. This is ridiculous.

I'm still skeptical - especially since I'm reading Apple has turned off the ability for users to downgrade. I need to see more details on 11.0.3 before I take the plunge. Their release notes only reference the 6s - not the 7s (see screenshot / attachment)User uploaded file. I need to see more success stories.

Yes I posted this exact same problem, I'm really glad I'm not the only one because the women from Apple Care I talked to said there wasn't anyone else calling in with this problem. She told me she'd call back Thursday to see if the problem had worked itself out because she did not have a solution. I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

Hey everyone - I fixed the problem but you're not gonna like the answer. I tried everything - reset settings, reset phone, complete erase / resetup - no luck with anything. In the end I Googled instructions on how to downgrade the phone to the previous version, 10.3.3. As soon as I did this everything worked just like it used to - other than I had to completely setup the phone again from scratch. You can Google instructions on how to do this - for now Apple is allowing people to do this although you'll need to download something called an .ipsw file - specific to your phone - to make this happen. Can't really give you more instructions - other than this appears to be the only option.

What's crazy is that I have other friends who did the iOS 11 upgrade (iPhone 7's - not the plus) and it worked great.

Good luck.

I'm really sorry to hear about everyone in this thread but also slightly relieved because this is the exact issue that I am having!

I am receiving a call from a senior adviser tonight at 18:00 and I will do my best to update this thread if there are any updates or if I find a way to sort it that does not resort to reverting back to 10.3.3

Good luck!

There really isn't any information "out there" that I could find. I'm reasonable saavy re: searching for solutions and I just can't imagine this issue is isolated to the 3 of us! Please do update once you have an answer - it's a royal pain to re-build this thing from scratch (which is what I'm doing now).

Don't let the adviser tell you to wait 24 - 48 hours for the phone to "re-index" and that what you / we are experiencing is "normal". I waited 24 hours and it didn't seem any faster or slower.

Initially I thought it might have something to do with syncing a ton of data into the iCloud but that was one of the first things I turned off. Besides - even after doing a complete erase / reset iOS 11 still was completely unusable.

Good luck!!

To be honest I was actually on the iOS 11 Beta program and had to roll my phone back then because it caused me the exact same issues as we are all seeing now, I was told at the time "wait for a new update and it will fix it"... well that update never came and for some reason I naively thought I wouldn't see the same problem with the official release.

I do agree with you, I can find nothing on the internet about this and have no clue why such an apparently small amount of users are experiencing this, at least in my experience it has happened at different times and completely different OS builds... it appears that my phone just cannot use iOS 11. (Its a 7 plus by the way so I am assuming its not a hardware issue).

Oh yeah don't fall for the re-indexing, my phone was practically bricked for a week because apple told me to wait...

Anyway, I hope your phone carries on working on 10.3.3, if its any small comfort I had no problems whatsoever when I rolled back from the beta.

Expect an update tonight or possibly tomorrow morning regarding my conversation with apple!

unless you have a backup that you manually saved BEFORE you upgraded to iOS11. Itunes (at lease on the PC) only keeps the last backup. In my case, iTunes backup up after I did the upgrade to 11 so my only upgrade was done on 11 - meaning once I downgraded I was unable to do a restore. Even though backups are apps / data / settings and not the OS itself, they are somehow tied to a version of the iOS. In my case, the last backup was on 11 so when I tried to restore after my downgrade it didn't work.

Just spent the last 3 hours re-downloading / trying to remember what apps I had. You're right - a royal pain.

i have identical issues and a few more on the 7plus. the issue persisted from bet 1 the 10 and now the official release too.

8 sec delay b 4 the app opens

when calling phone goes to mute and i can't get out of mute

the mic goes dead in dictation

control panel so so slow and eventually never responds

apple engineering has a copy of my device file ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/ to analyzie. how, could an otherwise albeit major iOS official release get public with such potential for disaster.

I'll add to the list of issues, just tried to play music (from apple music) and got "this operation could not be completed" with "an unknown error occurred (-12746)".

Helpful tip for anyone still having this issue like myself - Instead of tapping each icon and waiting, I've been double tapping the home button and sliding between apps, there's no lag doing that.

Alright fellas, So I had my phone call with apple last night, they basically have no idea what is going on so they don't seem to have put all of the reports together yet.

They talked me through the possibility of doing a fresh install of iOS 11 and setting up as a new phone, I told them I have done that 4 times already to no avail.

They took a copy of my diagnostics file and told me that the engineers were going to look at it and get back to me when they had any updates, right now I'm torn between sticking with iOS 11 and letting the engineers work so that hopefully they can develop a fix, or rolling back to 10.3.3 so that I can actually use my phone.

Anyway apologies for the completely unhelpful update, apple support handled the situation really well but unfortunately they don't have a clue why it is happening considering my diagnostic file showed no fails when they scanned it.

Bill YOU need to contact apple. Send them your s/n and an iPhone data dump. somehow there is something right about your phone we should all know. Seriously you might be literally holding the answer. lol apple can use your iPhone blood to make the antidote for the rest of unlucky owners.😀

I'd also recommend anyone making an instant judgement about speed wait several hours first.

To make sure functionality is restored as soon as possible after an install, a lot of database updating occurs behind the scenes when the device comes back up that may take a few hours to complete. Those of you with Macs may be familiar with the fact that after you install a new version of macOS, the Spotlight indices must be rebuilt; it's no different in iOS.

While that is going on, performance suffers and battery charge may drop significantly, which is why it's best to always be plugged into a power source when updating.
