iOS 11 incredibly slow on iPhone 7 Plus

So frustrated - iOS11 installed perfectly and works great on my iPad Pro. Installed on my iPhone 7plus (with 90GB free space) a few hours later and the phone is essentially unusable. The install went OK but when I click on any app (3rd party or native iOS - like Mail or Messenger) - there is a 20 second delay before the app opens. Unable to make or receive phone calls, texts.

Reset network settings, then all settings, then a complete erase / restore - still slow as Christmas. My phone, at this time, is essentially useless. Google Searches don't show this as a common problem - I'm hoping someone here has experienced this and has a suggestion?

I'll join the choir.
I have the exact same problems on my iPhone 7 (128 GB): Extreme lag, no sound, no vibration. I've tried reinstalling as new phone without it helping. Rolling back to 10.3.3 gave me a working phone again.

Please fix this ASP!

iOS 11.0.3 fixes the issues! 🙂

I decided to take a chance and install it. So I crossed my fingers and closed my eyes and didn't open them again until I heard the sound you hear when connecting the phone to power. That meant I had sound. Tried turning it off and my phone vibrated - haptic feedback brought back to life. Turned sound back on and entered my lock code and each tab on the screen resulted in a sound 😀 Opening apps and everything is fast and smooth again.

My phone is the iPhone 7 (128 GB). I have had repairs done on my phone (new back camera + lens) but not a new screen (unless the company who fixed my phone didn't tell me that they accidentally broke it and replaced it "free of charge"). Anyway, my phone works again!

I read another positive report in another thread about this issue, so it's seems like it's fixed now. Strange that Apple only states that it adresses 3rd party screens on the iPhone 6s.

I did not backup my phone either.

However when I downloaded the iswp for ios 10.3.3 I was able to restore as a new iphone by clicking "option," "restore" on itunes. A lot of websites suggest "option" "update." That did not work. But when I did "option" and "restore" I was able to set it up as a new iphone with 10.3.3 software and my phone is functional again

Maybe this will help you!

Update for everyone. I took my phone to the Apple store today. In a nutshell, they have no idea what is going on. They basically went through all the steps that we’ve all done on our own. First, we erased all the settings. We then erased all content and set it up as a new phone. Then we did a DFU (device firmware upgrade) restore. Lastly, he ran a diagnostics on it, the one issue that came up was the ambient light sensor was not detected. The ambient light sensor was mentioned by someone in this thread or another I believe. And the audio test also failed. In the end, they swapped out my phone with a refurbished one as it was still under Apple’s 1 year warranty. Everything runs as smooth as butter. Just bizarre. If anyone is still under warranty, this is the only solution I see. Good luck folks

Hey everyone - I fixed the problem but you're not gonna like the answer. I tried everything - reset settings, reset phone, complete erase / resetup - no luck with anything. In the end I Googled instructions on how to downgrade the phone to the previous version, 10.3.3. As soon as I did this everything worked just like it used to - other than I had to completely setup the phone again from scratch. You can Google instructions on how to do this - for now Apple is allowing people to do this although you'll need to download something called an .ipsw file - specific to your phone - to make this happen. Can't really give you more instructions - other than this appears to be the only option.

What's crazy is that I have other friends who did the iOS 11 upgrade (iPhone 7's - not the plus) and it worked great.

Good luck.

Bill - I'm glad it worked for you - but it does seem to be limited it the 7 plus (maybe we all have 128GB too?). Re: your question about configuration - after I did a total erase / reset of iOS11 (meaning I had no configurations or downloaded any apps) I got the same response. In other words, my configuration at that time couldn't have been any different than straight out-of-the-box. Maybe those of us affected are part of a batch that may be causing the problem (a batch you weren't part of?)

I'm now been on the downgraded 10.3.3 for 24 hours with zero problems.

Well, Apple replaced my iPhone 7 Plus. I explained I already had a screen replacement, and they said since there's no point in replacing the screen, they gave me a replacement, no questions asked. It would've been $350 for a replacement out of warranty, in case anyone was wondering.

This 7 plus works fine with iOS11, which we installed in store to make sure it worked with new software. Thankfully I had two months left on my one year warranty.

I did the online chat with Apple this evening, and they ran the wireless diagnostic on my phone. They told me the Bluetooth test and ambient light sensor test failed, mind you everything worked before iOS 11 and ever since the update I have all the issues everyone mentioned here (no sound, vibration, app delay, the list goes on). It seems like they're blaming it on hardware which sounds absurd, and I explained it to the new advisor who I chatted with tonight, but she assured that these may be whats causing it, so I have a scheduled appointment Monday to have it serviced. We'll see if a hardware replacement will fix the issue. I'll be amazed, because like myself and everyone else has stated a million times, everything was fine before iOS 11. Who knows, maybe they'll just give me a replacement. Seems a **** of a lot easier than trying to diagnose this. It's like an episode of House.

In my case running iOS 11 beta and GM on iPhone 7 Plus, it sometimes wakes up so slow about 10 or 20 seconds when I push sleep/wake button.

I've fixed this by clearing all notifications queued in the pull-down screen for notification.

Let me explain little bit more to clarify my sutiation. When I reset my iPhone to factory setup and installed iOS 11, and restore all my data from iTunes backup (yes knew it might include erroneous data), it started wake up as normal. However, it again wakes up so slow after using it for a day or so. Then my friend told me that as the number of queued notification increased, his iPhone started to wake up slow. It was bingo! for my case.

Hey everyone watching following this - I'm the guy who made the original post. An Apple Support Engineer just called me out of the blue (I never opened a case with them about this issue) and mentioned "they" have been following this case and asked some follow-up questions. He assured me they're working on this and while he couldn't officially say for sure, led me to believe this would be addressed in a future iOS 11 update. The issue is indeed with non-OEM screens and this was not intentional. He said Apple has to make certain assumptions when doing updates and in this case, assumed screens had a certain level of firmware installed - where the non-OEM's do not meet the test. Again, he said we should see something "soon" (whatever that means). Hope this helps.

I took my iPhone 7 Plus in to my local Apple Store on Saturday and after some intensive diagnostic routines and checks it was replaced with a new phone. The suspicion was that a fault had developed in the logic board although I’m not convinced (but I am very satisfied at Apple’s attitude). The store said it was the first fault of its kind they’d seen from iOS 11.0.0/11.0.1 but that the phone would just be recycled and not analysed further to see what the problem actually was.

Good luck to everyone else with the same problem.
