ios 11 update phone freezing

Hi, I updated to ios 11 on my 64GB iPhone 6s without any issues. But since doing so my phone has stopped working 3 times. The problem is that the phone freezes and I can't press any apps or open app switcher, it's just dead. I have to do a force restart to get back up running again.

Exact same issue... Wasn't immediate after update, just started a day or two ago. I've had to hard reset 3-4 times now. Several otherwise reliable apps open very slow or more often crash without opening

Prokey, thanks for sharing your details. I have iPhone SE + first gen iPad Air which both start crashing when I use Tinder on them, without Tinder they work properly. From apps you listed we have in common:

Tinder, IG, Facebook, Whatsapp (not in my iPad), Uber, Google Maps, MyFitnessPal

I have two email accounts (Gmail & Office365) configured on my iPhone but none on my iPad, so I assume its not related to email accounts. I'll try to remove those common apps temporarily from my iPhone to see if that makes any difference.

iPhone 6s on O2 in the UK. The only thing we have in common is IG and FB (which I rarely use) and the freeze has never happened when opening either of those. It’s entirely random. Not linked to one app, email, WiFi or 4G.

It has settled down since updating to 11.1.2 (.4.6.482 ...! I have never had so many iOS updates in such a short space of time in my life - it’s like Adobe!) And my really ancient pre-historic iPad never froze (knock on wood)

It’s a chaos theory problem that can’t be replicated which is why it’s so frustrating. For all we know phones freeze when a man open his fridge at 4am in New York and a woman goes ice skating at 3pm in the Sahara. It’s that unpredictable.

Everyone thinks it’s because Apple are developing for the latest phone but let’s not forget that 11.1.2 was to stop the X freezing below certain temperatUtes. Insert EE roll emoji here.

The sad thing is I won’t be switching to anything else because this is a minor inconvenience compared to dealing with anything else that I still consider an inferior phone. I’ll be bristish and put up with it while grumbling and drinking tea.

Ever since I updated to IOS11 I've had this very annoying issue. My iPhone 6s freezes up at least 10 to 15 times a day. Happens very often with Google Maps and Spotify. Sometimes the phone freezes up just for fun while I'm not even using it, e.g. I'm driving and the music stops playing over bluetooth because the f*ck*n* OS decided to flake on me. After 4 months, I think it's more than time for Apple to address this issue.

Been having the same issue phone will freeze with no touch, can double tap home button and it will go to the app switcher, screen rotation works while frozen, just simply cant do anything with the phone until restarting it. Sometimes it will fix itself after 10seconds other times ill be trying for 20minutes and nothing will happen(resulting in having to restart phone). Some are saying if you have an aftermarket screen then thats the issue, but mine doesnt. I have a iphone 6+ 64gb. Hoping they fix this issuse soon because restarting my phone is getting old.

These don't actually help in the long term. Apple replaced my phone for me, because they wouldn't admit it was a software issue. I have a brand new phone which I did NOT restore from a backup, and once I installed all my apps that I use and signed in to iCloud, it started freezing again. So it's either a unique combination of apps or it's something in my iCloud account.

Well … the Genius Bar guy saw the stalling, stuttering, and freezing touchscreen on my iPhone 6/128GB. Diagnostics showed no hardware problems. They erased the phone and set up as new and kept the already installed iOS 11. And … with no restore or apps installed, I could barely enter my new password because of the stalling, stuttering, and freezing touchscreen. They gave me a new iPhone 6, which happened to have iOS 10.3.3 installed. I took it home, and restored with a pre-iOS 11 backup, and viola! Problem solved

But now the IT folks at work say I have to have at least 11.1 installed to get critical security fixes.

So now I have a choice to be non-functional because I can’t get to meetings or email at work, or to be non-functional because Apple breaks my touchscreen with their iOS update?

I agree! Maybe if Apple would stop releasing a new iPhone & software every 6 months they could better concentrate on releasing updates that were actually beneficial. While they’re at it they need to get rid of the update nag feature that essentially takes your phone hostage. I don't remember telling my phone it could install the last update, but it did at some point & my phone has been randomly freezing for the last couple of days. Some people have recommended erasing & reinstalling from an older backup, but that’s unacceptable. This is Apple’s mistake & their responsibility to correct.

I could not agree more. Plus, the ability to revert to IOS 10 was taken away very quickly. A friend recommended the tips found here which helped a bit: http://osxdaily.com/2017/10/06/ios-11-slow-speed-up-performance/

It may be also that offloading my camera roll freed up enough memory to help because my slowness and freezing has been improved or cured (I hate to say this prematurely!

I now have this problem, too; iPhone 8 plus a little more than a week old, but I have had no problems until today. One thing that is fishy is the AppleCare online diagnostic...within an hour or two of doing the diagnostic (and having to agree to send data to Apple and their ad buddies, or whatever the disclaimer said), boom—constant crashing, spinning icon in the center of the screen, kicked to locked screen.

I have had no problems with my old 6s for two years. ****** about my new phone not working, I grab the old one that has been off for a week and attempt to use that. Boom. Doing the same thing!

Both have 11.1 on there...trying to update to the 11.2 release, but, well, THE STUPID PHONES KEEP CRASHING.

The Apple community misses Steve Jobs more and more with every single Apple release nowadays.

Mine locks up every minute...enter passcode navigate back to these threads looking for answers (none to be found, of course), a couple clicks to the next page and boom—back to lock screen. I quit. I'll let them give me a new phone new phones, given even the old iPhone 6 is now plagued with this problem, and then 'lemon law' these rotten Apples.

Mine is a 6 and is crashiNg to a black screen with the spinning I can in the middle. Then it goes to a lock screen and I start from the beginning. I cannot erase data or do anything on my phone that takes longer than a minute. It is extremely frustrating. It sounds like it something quite the terminal and perhaps affecting a lot more users than anyone ever anticipated. I just went to Apple store here in Croatia which is just an authorized dealer and they told me they would be resetting or installing my iOS. I can see that this would fix the problem. I’m not sure if I would ever be able to download any new update is my phone is locking itself out every minute.
