ios 11 update phone freezing

Hi, I updated to ios 11 on my 64GB iPhone 6s without any issues. But since doing so my phone has stopped working 3 times. The problem is that the phone freezes and I can't press any apps or open app switcher, it's just dead. I have to do a force restart to get back up running again.

Exact same issue... Wasn't immediate after update, just started a day or two ago. I've had to hard reset 3-4 times now. Several otherwise reliable apps open very slow or more often crash without opening

I have the same issue with my 7 Plus...Since I was able to see that there is a version 11.2 update; I am currently trying to process the 11.2 update. The phone has kicked itself out of the download update process 2x so far; nope 3x; nope 4x;

Decided to turn off some features. Turned off Background App refresh; turned off bluetooth;

I also have the Iphone 7plus PLUGGED IN.

Nope 5x and back to passcode re-entry; Restarted the software update for 11.2 for 6x -- the download is about 1/2 done per the blue progress line; it has progressed about 1/2 inch -- about a 1/2 inch left; I think the key here is patience... the update may actually be updating in the background even though the screen blacks out and we get the wherly derby spinning wheel.

Another few blackout cycles and now the Settings ICON has a RED 1 on it (indicating there is an update ready to install).

I tried installing it and the phone went to spinning wheel in about 10 seconds; second time it did it again; third time was the charm... the phone is now at the Black Screen with the WHITE APPLE with the update progress bar at about 40% point (note it took a couple minutes to get to this point) -- just set the stopwatch to see how long it takes to complete the update to 11.2.

It's been 2 minutes on the stopwatch (love my Fitbit)... the progress is at 50%. The screen just went back to a blank screen at about the 3:15 (minutes:seconds) mark, and then to the WHITE APPLE without a PROGRESS BAR... then the Progress Bar came up at a 25% level... the bar appears to be moving more quickly and is at the 80% point at about the 5:15 mark.

There has been no progress past the 80% point at the 7:00 minute mark. The update completed at about the 8:15 mark -- so that means the update to 11.2 took approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Just tested the phone really quickly... went to the CAMERA APP and successfully took a picture -- the phone previously went funky with the Black screen and Spinning wheel immediately when trying to snap the picture.

I will update this post if something unique starts happening to the phone similar to this issue.

I don't know of a way to prevent automatic iOS updates, but you can control automatic downloads of music, apps, and app updates in iOS under Settings --> iTunes & App Stores.

I suspect that my initial and ongoing issue with my iOS freezing up every few days is related to App installs that stall out. If this theory is correct, one could prevent the app install stalls, by disabling the automatic downloads/updates of the apps. I am working with Apple to troubleshoot my issue, so I still have to endure the freezing to help get the problem fixed.

I am currently running iOS 11.2 on my iPhone 7. 11.2 fixed the local notification bug with my phone resetting every 2 minutes starting at 12:15am on 12/2. However, my initial 11.0 freeze issue still remains in every version of iOS 11, including 11.2.

Got a 128 Gb 7 plus.....same thing, freezing in normal apple apps(safari, messenger, phone app,...)

Seems like apple has issues with 7 plus and ram memory, probably it pules up and the phone doesnt clear it...hopefully a new update will fix this when it arrives. Got a bit angry today cause it frooze in the car while driving, was a fairly important business call and i had to make force shut down plus wait to bloody boot up and connect via bt to stereo.....

The exact thing happens to me too! My phone screen will become unresponsive on an app and then I’ll try to hit the home button twice to close it. It’ll just go to the home screen and freeze. It won’t lock the screen is frozen and the home button doesn’t work either. I can’t hard reset it because the buttons don’t work. It eventually does like you said and goes to a black screen with a small spinning icon and then turns on after about 5 minutes.

I have been struggling with my email freezing ever since I updated to IOS 11. It has been horrible. Finally - I did something that really seemed to help. Go to Accounts & Passwords => turn OFF Push. Turn Push off for everything. Put everything on Fetch (I did chose the Automatically on the schedule). Then do a hard reset and it really did the trick. Hope this helps for others.

Thank you for the tips on what to do if the screen freezes, but I think the real issue at hand is WHY this has suddenly started happeneing to so many iphone6 users after updating to iOS 11. What is the root cause? Honestly, I held off a very long time upgrading my iOS (was stil on 9.2) when I made the leap to 11. I’ve been regretting it ever since

The minute I updated to 11 on my iPhone 6s my phone started freezing up. I did everything Apple suggested me to do..plugged my iPhone into my Mac and went into iTunes and set my iPhone up as a new phone...didn't help at all. I have done every update to my iPhone and it still freezes up. Getting really tired of trying to use my iPhone but have to restart it every time it freezes. I really don't think Apple knows where the problem is. I am disgusted with Apple!

I have an iPhone 6 and two iPhone 6s that I regret updating
to IOS 11. Now the phones are freezing and getting stuck to the point the phones
re-boot. I googled the issue and it seems Apple have taken upon themselves to
slow down the CPU of older phones with every new IOS, in order to optimize performance
of the battery? Which I am calling out as BS, Apple is stating they are not
doing this to make its customers upgrade, but that is the case when I am about
to t get its consumers to upgrade, how
else would they continue to make profits? BTW I am visiting my parents whom, I
gave my mother my old iPhone 6 which is on 10.3.3, Its running smooth and is
not freezing compared to the iPhone 6 I have as a backup.
