ios 11 update phone freezing

Hi, I updated to ios 11 on my 64GB iPhone 6s without any issues. But since doing so my phone has stopped working 3 times. The problem is that the phone freezes and I can't press any apps or open app switcher, it's just dead. I have to do a force restart to get back up running again.

Hi Lawrence,

I tried this and it settled down for a day. It then froze again. I have since upgraded to an iPhone 7 plus (didn't fancy the 8 for some reason) and it has again frozen. I keep my phone and message apps in a folder. I had gotten a missed call, I opened the folder and pressed the phone app. The app would not open, I could close the folder then my phone was again frozen. There is definately a bug in the ios 11 that needs addressing.

Same problem here, since day one of update to ios11, my phone (iphone 7 128gb) keeps freezing at least 5 times a day with normal use. It’s really annoying, can’t even make phone calls. Other thing is that i can’t change the volume with the buttons and need to restart or force restart to make them work.

Really worst update in iphone history. I’m really dissapointed.

Same exact phone and same exact issue for me. Started after the first update to iOS 11 that supposedly fixed bugs. I had no problems before the update.

It seems to happen to me under the following circumstances. I’ve been having ongoing issue where my apps are not automatically updating and I have to toggle the date and time settings from automatic to manual and plug the phone into power to get the apps to update. Sometimes that doesn’t even work.

My crashes happened after I have begun the process of manually updating the apps. Each time this happened, a hard reset results in the apps having been installed by the time the phone reboots.

I'm having lots of freezing after intense phone usage, but not this particular problem with AppleID - I think it runs deeper than any one particular app or operation. It's like the OS has critical memory leaks and the process has to be killed off automatically after a long wait. Which means sloppy programming. Sloppy on a new level for Apple

My phone was freezing too after the update (ios11). I have decided to reinstall a fresh new version of ios, which took me forever, because I had to reinstall all the apps, including the 2SA which are not automatically transferred. I used the phone for two days and I can say is now freezing way less often than before.

Although the situation is better, I don't like that my phone is still freezing from time to time. Should I take it to the apple store? Those guys are always busy and even when you have an appointment you end up waiting 40 minutes anyway so I would prefer not to if they won't be able to fix the issue anyway.

I've been using iOS 11 on my test iPhone 7 for every developer beta release. I have restored my iPhone 7 to factory via iTunes 5 times. Apple has given my phone a clean bill of health twice. From the first beta up to and including 11.0.2, I have consistently and continually experienced freezing, random phone restarts, and slow performance (10+ seconds to register a key press or click)

I don't disagree that this could be a phone issue. It's early and I expect the problem, whatever it is, will be resolved. Until then, Apple telling me my phone is fine and the OS is fine leaves me up in the air with an unreliable device. If this were my primary device (still running 10.3.3) I would be more upset.

Some IPhone 6S Plus models have Samsung chips as well. You may want to use the Geekbench app in order to know the exact chip model you have in your iPhone. If you have N66AP then it’s samsung as well.

For your reference:

iPhone 6s – Model N71AP – Samsung A9

  • iPhone 6s – Model N71mAP – TSMC A9
  • iPhone 6s Plus – Model N66AP – Samsung A9

I also have had this problem. I have an iPhone7 and this problem did not occur until I updated to 11.02. The phone's will randomly freeze with neither the home button nor the power button being responsive. The only thing that will make it work again is a force restart, but it only works until the phone decides to freeze up again. I do not know why this is happening, but I have had to restart my phone five times today and had to do the same thing several times yesterday too. This needs to be fixed.

Thank you for the tips here...Well I have SE, 7 and an 8 now in the family all are totally smooth and back to normal, one of my 8 which had an issue was replaced under warranty by APPLE. Overall I see keeping in low battery mode helps as well...may be all additional settings are off in this mode. Also I had MEASUREKIT AR APP saw the issues as soon as I installed...However since new device I had a genius appointment they confirmed defective piece and replaced my unit. Now all well!! Am not going to try any new OS until some stability there...will stay in 11.0.2 for now no issues

If anybody from Apple is reading - I'm able to reproduce this issue of the phone freezing on my iPhone 5S.

It only occurs soon after the iPhone has been locked. ie you're using the iPhone, lock it with the top button. If you go to unlock soon after, you won't be able to do it - the phone is unresponsive.

If the phone has been locked for some time and then you go to use it, it's usually fine to use / responsive.
