ios 11 update phone freezing

Hi, I updated to ios 11 on my 64GB iPhone 6s without any issues. But since doing so my phone has stopped working 3 times. The problem is that the phone freezes and I can't press any apps or open app switcher, it's just dead. I have to do a force restart to get back up running again.

Yes. Apple said try it for a day or two. On the 2nd day I was still having issues. They had told me if no issues to restore from my iTunes on pc, not from iCloud. I was even having issues w/the phone while they tried to help me. I had already tried the hard reset BEFORE calling them. I still can’t sent brief video clips to phones they text nor to emails via phone😰😰

Same here on my iPhone 6S:

- Apps freeze and then crash 80% of the time when opening or switching to them

- Huge memory leaks when trying to open the apps causes battery to drain quickly
- Cannot hear people who call me 50% of the time

- Sometimes when the phone freezes it goes to a black screen that I cannot come out of, even the off button doesn't work. After 5mins it becomes responsive again.

- iTunes controls from lock screen usually don't work, break sometime after restarting phone

- Many notifications just come through as a vibration, nothing on screen. Occasionally they appear for a moment and then disappear

EXACTLY the same issues happen on my bros phone, he BOUGHT A NEW PHONE because he thought it was broken. And the SAME issues happen there too......... How are more people not reporting this?

I am a software dev and this is just shameful that such a buggy OS could be released, which only needed to support a couple of handfuls of hardware variations :/

I certainly wouldn't update yet. I was on 10.3.3, and updated last week, now experiencing the same issues in this post. I was muted on a conf call for work, and needed to talk, but my phone was completely unresponsive. The screen was dark and wouldn't respond to any buttons. I tried to power the phone off, still no response. After 3-4 minutes, my phone screen lights up with 911on the screen as if I needed to make an emergency call. My conf call was disconnected as well. Stay on 10.3.3 for now if you heavily rely on your phone.

Been struggling with random freezes issue since iOS 11 (it still wasn't solved on 11.1.1)

I have a 7+ w/128GB

Just before freezing, I've noticed that some icons are automatically darkening their color one at a time (as like they were pressed), and almost every time the imessage icon stays dark (it's like it is permanently pressed).

Then, The icons can be "pressed" by me (they responds by getting dark) but nothing happens, and a few second later it totally freezes and a hard reset is needed.

A really frustrating bug with no answer by Apple in a few version updates already. 😟

I think we need to find out what we all have in common. I'm sure we all have a few apps or accessories in common since this issue affects a specific group of us.

For me:

- iPhone 7 Verizon

- Apple Smart Battery Case

- Airpods

- 1st Generation Apple Watch

- Hands free Bluetooth car kit in my car

Apps

I have every dating app pretty much

I use the Google Keyboard (via the Google app)

I have IG, Snapchat, Facebook, WhatsApp, Amazon, Uber, Lyft, Google Maps, Dropbox, MyFitnessPal

Email

I have about 5 email accounts configured.

Share your setup and let's find the pattern!

iPhone 6s on O2 in the UK. The only thing we have in common is IG and FB (which I rarely use) and the freeze has never happened when opening either of those. It’s entirely random. Not linked to one app, email, WiFi or 4G.

It has settled down since updating to 11.1.2 (.4.6.482 ...! I have never had so many iOS updates in such a short space of time in my life - it’s like Adobe!) And my really ancient pre-historic iPad never froze (knock on wood)

It’s a chaos theory problem that can’t be replicated which is why it’s so frustrating. For all we know phones freeze when a man open his fridge at 4am in New York and a woman goes ice skating at 3pm in the Sahara. It’s that unpredictable.

Everyone thinks it’s because Apple are developing for the latest phone but let’s not forget that 11.1.2 was to stop the X freezing below certain temperatUtes. Insert EE roll emoji here.

The sad thing is I won’t be switching to anything else because this is a minor inconvenience compared to dealing with anything else that I still consider an inferior phone. I’ll be bristish and put up with it while grumbling and drinking tea.

My iPhone 6S 128gb froze for the first time this morning. I have taken the IOS 11 updates over the last 4 weeks or so, which slowed it down a lot over IOS 10 (which I would have reverted to if it had not been withdrawn).

For what it is worth, while frozen it

  • would still show the control screen
  • play music - 4 pieces cycling for which I could control the volume and jump forward or back
  • the Safari button was greyed out
  • nothing else responded

A forced restart appears to have returned it to normal function for now. Let's see.

I don't know of a way to prevent automatic iOS updates, but you can control automatic downloads of music, apps, and app updates in iOS under Settings --> iTunes & App Stores.

I suspect that my initial and ongoing issue with my iOS freezing up every few days is related to App installs that stall out. If this theory is correct, one could prevent the app install stalls, by disabling the automatic downloads/updates of the apps. I am working with Apple to troubleshoot my issue, so I still have to endure the freezing to help get the problem fixed.

I am currently running iOS 11.2 on my iPhone 7. 11.2 fixed the local notification bug with my phone resetting every 2 minutes starting at 12:15am on 12/2. However, my initial 11.0 freeze issue still remains in every version of iOS 11, including 11.2.

Got a 128 Gb 7 plus.....same thing, freezing in normal apple apps(safari, messenger, phone app,...)

Seems like apple has issues with 7 plus and ram memory, probably it pules up and the phone doesnt clear it...hopefully a new update will fix this when it arrives. Got a bit angry today cause it frooze in the car while driving, was a fairly important business call and i had to make force shut down plus wait to bloody boot up and connect via bt to stereo.....

Apple has made amends by offering a battery replacement for $29 after fear of lawsuits, when they are the ones that caused the issue? Sorry Apple but why should we the consumers pay for your issue and you have made the older phones slow for a purpose? To sell newer phones, I just got my Iphone 8 (I will be returning it) yesterday and did a back up from my 6s, why is the 8 not experiencing the issues that my 6s is? What's the difference between the 6s and 8? Faster processor, camera and that's it and yet the 6s is still a great phone, but Apple intentionally sabotaged the 6s and now expects the consumer to pay $29 for a battery replacement? They have to make the money up somehow for those that will not be upgrading and are using older phones (THINK ABOUT IT)
