Audi MMI and iOS 11
Updated to iOS 11. Now my iPhone won’t play on my Audi (2015 A6) MMI system. Audi or Apple’s issue?

Hi,
Had the same issue.
Found that by removing the Bluetooth connection (deleting it) and then connecting via the MMI cable (no Blurtooth) it then worked as expected, (views of Albums,Songs, Artisits etc).
Once connected via the MMI then reconnected Bluetooth & phone and all is now working.

I found out the problem. After a week of playing with the problem, I finally found out what the issue is. First step is to reconnect the AMI cable then connect to the Bluetooth. Next setup after connecting to the Bluetooth is to go to Apple Music( one that comes pre installed) then while in there just pick random song and press play. Next step is to restart the MMI by holding the center button, top right, and the setup together for about 3 seconds. While the mmi restarts don’t exit out the Music app. What for the mmi to fully restart and boom it will work.
Audi (or whoever made the MMI software) will need to update their system. Apple releases beta versions of iOS specifically for this purpose. Audi should have been on this a long time ago. Call them and ask when an update will be made to be compatible with iOS 11.
Hi All,
It seems that the latest IOS version 11.0.2 resolved all MMI issues. You may need to re-boot the Audi MMI in order to get to recognize your iPhone.
Thanks
Went to my Audi dealer and he contacted the Audi headquarters in Germany. The problem in known by Audi and would be due to the proprietary cable used to connect the iPhone to the MMI. Since the last changes in IOS 11 that cable is not compatible anymore.
My dealer said that Audi is working on a new cable but it will take time to get released and we will have to pay for it...
Thank you Apple for making the IOS 11 not compatible with some bird equipment and thank you Audi for being so slow on solving this and having us to pay for the fix 😡
Hi Martin
In my case the issue went away when I upgraded to IOS 11.02.
I did have to reboot the MMI
Also I recently upgraded to IOS 11.03 and the issue does not happen
Hope you find a sol
Thanks
If you read above Audi has admitted that it’s an issue on their end and they are investigating a fix. They have stated that the end user will need to pay for the fix. An iOS update won’t change anything.
I get your point and Audi have a bit of responsibility but there are some facts to take into consideration:
- I have my Audi for a bit over three years and my iPhone 6S for a bit over two years
- My wife also have an Audi for a bit under 3 years and an iPhone 6 for almost three years
- Our phones always worked perfectly well on both cars since day 1 and stopped working with IOS11
- Audi does not update car software unless you ask and pay for it
So, the only change has been the IOS. I can't believe our two cars got the same problem with the MMI or with the cables at the exact same time as well as all the other persons complaining about the problem on the web (look on Google, there are thousands of complains about this). So, the change on the code between IOS 10 and IOS 11 is the root of the problem.
Where I agree that Audi have a responsibility is about the fact that, instead of using a standard USB connection for the phones, they are using a proprietary cable that connects the phone to the car for audio and control and also connects the phone to the amplified roof antenna. Since IOS11 has been released I've been able to use my phone on a rental car without any problem so IOS11 does not break everything but something that has been changed have an impact on the way Audi is connecting the phone on the MMI. But, again, it worked just fine before IOS11 so can we really blame Audi ?
So why has Audi admitting it to being their issue and stating they are working on a fix? Other manufacturers have admitted to the same thing and fixes have been released or are forthcoming. Believe what you want but Apple has yet to state this is an issue they are working on and just refer people back to the vehicle manufacturers. Therefore, updating to any 11.2.x version, 11.3 or later will almost be guaranteed NOT to fix the problem.
To be precise about my MMI issue, Bluetooth works fine, cable works fine! It is the WiFi connection with MMI app that does not. As IOS 11 has a new file system that appears to use compression to provide the allusion of increased space, the MMI app appears not to decompress before trying to play the music. That is why MMI reports corrupt file
Updating to iOS 11.0.1 resolved all issues. It was very likely a bug in the iOS 11 release.
The only person that can mark it as solved is the original poster. For them the 11.0.2 update resolved the issue (which is pretty lucky as that normally doesn't fix these kind of issues). If you are having a problem still with your vehicle/system, contact Audi to see if they will be issuing a firmware update to be compatible with iOS 11.
Audi has already stated that the problem lies with them and they are working on a fix. An iOS update from Apple it’s not going to change anything.
Hi All,
I'm also having the same problem. it appears the IOS 11 has doesn't like MMI system. I'm also encountering an issue with all contacts the have images assigned to them. For these contacts the voice dialing over Bluetooth doesn't work. Remove the image and voice dialing works again. Definitely a bug in IOS 11.
thanks
