ios 11 slow wifi speeds

Updated my 6s and now my WiFi speeds are at a crawl mostly under 25mbs in the same room as a laptop getting 75mbs download speeds.

I’ve done a Forced Restart

Toggled WiFi on/off

Forgotten WiFi networks

Reset WiFi networks

Turned off Location Services

Etc etc etc

The only thing I have done is reset the entire phone 📱

Anyone else reporting these issues?

Try connecting to WiFi on the 5 GHz band instead of 2.4 GHz if your router has the option. This worked for me.

I had this same problem since I upgraded to iOS 11 on my iPhone 6S Plus. I tried everything suggested except for a full restore.

I was connected to my router via the 2.4 GHz band when having the problem. I would get >50 Mbps on my Macbook but <1 Mbps on my iPhone when running a speed test.

I instead connected my iPhone to my router's 5 GHz band and have consistently been getting >50 Mbps on my iPhone now and have had no problem with WiFi on iOS 11 since switching bands.

I hope this helps all of you.

Yes. 7s plus. I use my phone to test the Wifi in my home. Normally I get speed tests of 116 mbps now I get 70 mbps ish for my 100 mbps service. All of my other MAC devices are speed testing at the 116 mbps range. Not 100% sure if it's the update or maybe the phone is experiencing a problem, coincidence?. Everything seems ok just slower.

Update. Rebooted phone-same slower speed test results. Then turned WIFI off/on. For the first time since iOS 11 update I get the 116 mbps test result. hope consistent and not a fluke.

After plenty of testing, iPads (Air 2 / 10.5), iPhone 7 Plus (after reset all settings) are working fine on WiFi.

6 Plus is erratic on WiFi. Seems keychain is messed up between the 6 Plus and the Air 2, which are linked via wife’s iCloud account. I’ve reset her phone and no luck. Just so weird. Hit or miss. Sometimes gets consistent speeds, then reverts back to getting lousy speeds. Has to be some conflict in software. Just will have to be patient for fix.

Chaz,

Another curveball in this WiFi saga. 😁

Had another issue with WiFi not waking up and intermint speed issues, after swapping modem again!

Finally got someone at Time Warner Cable Tier 3 Tech Support who knew immediately there was a problem in line somewhere from outside to the modem. Says he could see it happening for a few weeks and that swapping modems or changing settings would never correct this issue at the line. Said that signals will spike, confusing modem and basically putting it in a locked type state. Was happening on prior modems as well.

Why other tech support people didn’t notice this, not sure? I believe after third call, they escalate the issue and you get someone who has enough experience to diagnose these issues. I have a tech coming out here tomorrow to correct the issue. I’ll keep you updated.

He did says one thing that was very interesting. He said some Apple devices can hang on 5GHz connection, that would require you to turn the connection off/on to reconnect. He said Apple was aware of the issue.

I also have same issue on my iphone 6. Its only happen after update ios 11. The worst is my ip6 wifi disconnected. I try to connect again (manually) by choose the wifi network. Then it ask the password. When i key in the password it keep popup “incorrect password” and “unable to connect to network”. After few times try, i leave it (after 3@4 hours) it automatically connected. (At the moment, i cannot connect- already 2 hours).

My laptop@ other smartphone (except iphone ios 11) able to get up to 25mbps but my ip6 only can get 1mbps. Its really *****. Hope apple can fix this issue soonest. Its already months.

I have been having this same problem with my iPhone 7 plus. Its download speeds on Wifi are about one-third as fast as they should be. Uploads don't appear to be affected, but they top out at 20 Mbps, so it's really hard to say. My 12.9" iPad Pro does not experience any problems and gets full speed downloads and uploads.

I was hoping that iOS 11.1 would address the issue, but after upgrading, it seems even worse than before. Now I'm only getting 5 - 10 Mbps download speeds when they should be 150.

I had a case open with Apple about this, but the iPhone suddenly started working again, so we closed it. But ever since that one night that it started working correctly again, it's been back to its slow download speeds. I'm going to see if I can reopen the ticket.
