Email slow to load in mail app with iOS 11

After updating to iOS 11 my emails are taking a long time to load after they come in. The preview shows, but when I select the new message it just says loading for a long time. I am even having to leave the message and come back a few times.

This is on my exhange account with push.

Anyone else seeing this?

The app is called “battery life” and it shows my battery only holds 78% of capacity compared to when new

The x1000 was not literal. I just meant than when my charge is less than 80% (of the 78% of original) everything slows down. Email fetching, key pay typing, app switching all are slowed. If you read the article about the slowdown it’s 40% if full speed. REALLY noticeable.

Hi, a Mac user of years, I speak from experience; recent iOS updates have made my mail so slow it is unusable; the problem does not arise in High Sierra

It is concerning recent claims against Apple for slowing down

older iPhones appear to also apply to my iphone 8plus; please Apple get your act together and rectify ASAP operation system issues resulting in poor performance and unrealiability you continue to inflict upon customers

It is crazy there should be even need to reboot etc as you suggest Joe; Apple is at fault - not us customers

I do not believe that the "slowing down "issue has anything to do with the atrocious performance of the Apple Mail App. I had an older iPad running iOS 10 but had to replace it in December because of damage. The Mail app was working fine - quick and snappy on the old iPad. The new replacement had iOS 11 pre - installed so there was no turning back the clock. From the day I took delivery, the Mail problems began ( not appearing, slow to appear, retrieving them manually etc ) and there has still been no fix from Apple forthcoming.

In frustration, I switched the Edison Mail App. It is everything the Apple Mail App should be and more. Try it.

What I don't get, is why a 3rd part app works just fine, yet Apple, with all the vast resources at their disposal, cannot get it right.

Snail mail from the USPS is faster than Apple's Mail under iOS 11.x 😟 And nobody from Apple has an iota of professionalism by choosing to not respond to this topic affecting 1000+ users (that's just the ones that found this post, there are undoubtedly tens of thousands more!). I think I might stop consuming apples in the future 🙂

Obviously you haven’t had to deal with issues with Microsoft. Apple is a saint compared to them. I run my (new) PC next to my old iMac and the iMac wins EVERYTIME!!!!. There is so much more complexities in programming that the average person knows nothing about. 1 thing changed can effect how other applications are handled. At least there is an attempt. With Microsoft and that new 10 os, it has taken a year of I don’t know how many failed updates that don’t take 15 minutes to install and complete. Very frustrating. I will opt for Apple any day.... My mail is loading slower but if that is the only glitch, I am happy....it is only my secondary mail outlet...

Apple deleted my first attempt to reply with my thoughts, guess they do not like constructive criticism... Here goes attempt #2:

I’m in the IT business for 30+ years, programming and supporting primarily Microsoft products. I’ve had iPhone for last 4-5 years, so recently decided to give Apple some of my money and bought an IMac 27”. My thought was that Apple was touted as having a better OS and cutting edge hardware. While I still believe the latter, this software issue with Apple’s own Mail app (starting with iOS 11) slowing down to snail like speed makes me realize they aren’t any better than Microsoft on the software front. It’s inexcusable for Apple to not have fixed it by now. And they have their heads buried in the sand if you call Apple Care. They’ll say a problem did exist, but was “fixed” since 11.0.1. That simply isn’t true, as this thread proves! And Apple doesn’t have the professionalism or courtesy to post ANYTHING in this thread! I mean, this is their forum - get involved for gosh sake! Over 1000 affected users according to just this one thread/topic. If you do IT, you know that for every one person that took the time to post here, there are scores more that haven’t found this post or limp along without complaining...

What really boggles me, as a programmer, is that Apple allows their Mail app software to display a ridiculous “LOADING” message for unusually long times (MINUTES sometimes for me)! Can’t they set some sort of timeout feature, and if a timeout occurs, analyze the situation, try other communication protocols etc? At a minimum, send analytic data back to Apple and figure out where the software roadblock is... You’d expect that from a company that touts itself so highly...

BTW I switched to MS Outlook for iOS, which works as expected...

This is what I’ve noticed.

The problem exist only with my primary Gmail account. Other Gmails and emails work fine.

After updating to iOS 11.2.2 this issue was gone for about a week but then it reappeared. This happened simultaneously with both my iPhone and iPad. And again, primary Gmail account only.

So I’m narrowing it down to the differences between the accounts. Maybe you can find similarities in yours?

The Gmail account with problem has...

1. Thousands of emails archived while other accounts have a lot less

2. Custom @domain.com with gmail G Suite (not @gmail.com)

Maybe Mail app has a problem with large amounts of emails?
