Email slow to load in mail app with iOS 11

After updating to iOS 11 my emails are taking a long time to load after they come in. The preview shows, but when I select the new message it just says loading for a long time. I am even having to leave the message and come back a few times.

This is on my exhange account with push.

Anyone else seeing this?

Hello there kane_TO,

If I understand correctly you are able to receive the emails just fine, but it takes longer than usual to actually view the contents after updating to iOS 11. Let's start by forcing the Mail app to close with this article:

How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Then restart the pone and test it out again:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If that does not resolve the issue, we should next remove the account from the phone and re add it:

If you can’t send or receive emails on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Remove your email account and set it up again

  1. On your computer, sign in to your email provider’s website. Make sure that all of your email is there or make sure that your email is saved somewhere other than your iOS device.
  2. On your iOS device, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
  3. Tap the email account that you want to remove.
  4. Tap Delete Account.
  5. Add your account again.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities, let us know how that goes.

I installed iOS 11.1 and on an iPhone 6 I can say that mail is a little better. However, as I’ve said before in this thread, my iPhone 6 is a slow piece of **** on iOS 11. Often throughout the day, the screen becomes unresponsive for many seconds when switching between apps or basically just using the device for anything. It’s incredibly frustrating and I do not recommend upgrading to iOS 11 if you are on an iPhone 6.

Well so far the update has made mail act as expected. The screen becomes live when you first launch it, not 27 seconds later like before.

I have had it seem fixed before, only to get slow again. Let’s see

I think Apple knew there was a problem and it took a while to fix it. They stated only that this recent update fixes mail showing that it’s still checking mail when it was not. Actually Apple, it was still checking and locking up

They downplayed the resolve to make it a non-issue in the first place.

Everyone, I just got word from Apple support that they are aware of and working on this problem. Apparently, it’s an issue with yahoo email security settings, and the Apple engineers are working on it and it will likely be pushed out in a security update hopefully in the near future. I was not given a timeframe but at least now we know they are working on it. I made the point that Apple needs to participate in this forum and keep us updated better.

My Yahoo account did something strange this morning. I clicked on the account and the emails appeared but then disappeared immediately with a "No Messages" indicator. Then it proceeded to download all of the emails again. Fortunately, I only had 84 messages in the account. Never did that before, very strange indeed. But the issues I'm having are with two Gmail accounts, a Google Apps account, and two Office365 accounts, in addition to Yahoo.

Hi, a Mac user of years, I speak from experience; recent iOS updates have made my mail so slow it is unusable; the problem does not arise in High Sierra

It is concerning recent claims against Apple for slowing down

older iPhones appear to also apply to my iphone 8plus; please Apple get your act together and rectify ASAP operation system issues resulting in poor performance and unrealiability you continue to inflict upon customers

It is crazy there should be even need to reboot etc as you suggest Joe; Apple is at fault - not us customers

Same and it is happening with my Shaw mail and exchange. Was just on the phone with Apple Support attesting to fix for the 2nd time and NO. They have asked me to do todays update on my phone and scheduled a call back, I’ve done every update since 11 and that is the problem, Hey iPad has upated and its not working there so why will updating the phone be any different??? I think we have bum devices, I just got into a new 7 last year and new ipad pro, have you all new devices or old?
