Email slow to load in mail app with iOS 11

After updating to iOS 11 my emails are taking a long time to load after they come in. The preview shows, but when I select the new message it just says loading for a long time. I am even having to leave the message and come back a few times.

This is on my exhange account with push.

Anyone else seeing this?

Well so far the update has made mail act as expected. The screen becomes live when you first launch it, not 27 seconds later like before.

I have had it seem fixed before, only to get slow again. Let’s see

I think Apple knew there was a problem and it took a while to fix it. They stated only that this recent update fixes mail showing that it’s still checking mail when it was not. Actually Apple, it was still checking and locking up

They downplayed the resolve to make it a non-issue in the first place.

🙄

Why don’t Apple developers do Beta testing, surly this would be obvious during testing. Unfortunatly for many people like me, a self employed freelancer on the road a lot, my iPhone is my office. If an email doesn’t show up, I miss a job, damage my reputation for a quick responder etc. I’m now using the Gmail app, I find it awkward but necessay.

We gave up on Apple email more than a month ago, installing Outlook to access multiple Exchange accounts.

It worked immediately (thus pinning the bug clearly on a defect from Apple.)

We actually like Outlook on our phone more than we like Apple's email app. It's almost the same (and had almost zero learning curve) but is more polished and has a few additional features that make our work easier.

So, even when Apple fixes this problem, we won't be going back to the Apple app.

It amazes me that Apple, the third largest company in the world (Fortune 1000, 2016), has such bad QA that this bug got out the door. The only other explanation is that they KNEW about the bug and shipped the product anyway, just to make a ship date.

What amazes me even more is that Apple either doesn't know about this thread, or has chosen to stay mute on the issue, hoping it won't gain more attention. That's called treating your customers like dirt. And it's something we expect from Microsoft. However, I guess we were mistaken in thinking Apple didn't have that kind of contempt for their users.

Well said! The only issue I encountered in switching from Mail to Outlook for iOS was that Outlook doesn’t support sub folders in Contacts. Not sure why they did that, as folders are the norm for organizing in the rest of the IT world. Plus, Outlook for Windows supports Contact sub folders. Anyway, I used the category feature to organize my contacts, then moved them all into the main Contacts folder so Outlook for iOS could “see them”. Other than that, it’s been a painless experience moving to Outlook for IOS! And guess what - Outlook retrieves and displays messages nearly instantaneously. Unlike Apple’s latest Mail under iOS 11.x. It’s like comparing apples to oranges 😺

This problem has been plaguing my IOS11 devices as well. I found something that as odd as it sounds fixed it for me. In the left pane I have always enabled viewing the “Unread” folder. Now that I can get the same result by pressing the little 3 lines at the bottom of the view I wondered if somehow that unread folder view was causing my problem. I selected “edit”and unchecked it and now my mail is working fast again. I will update this if it changes in the next day or so and becomes slow again.

I am also using 1 iCloud, 3 gmail and one Microsoft exchange account (I guess that’s what my work account is)

I have been using outlook app for a few days now. Yikes, I am actually using it! It’s somewhat faster. Most things display better but that’s because it didn’t enlarge the text like apple mail does.

I am just getting over ios11..... my phone is functional but not nearly as entertaining....

I just can’t believe this is still happening. I’ve had the same issue since iOS 11 with every minor update too, now with 11.2.

I use a Hotmail and a work Exchange email. I’ve noticed that when wiping everything and installing them again, everything works fine with the Hotmail address before I add the Exchange. Then, both emails become very slow.

I see the previews normally, but the emails themselves can take forever to load. Sometimes, it seems to be faster. Also, loading new emails can be very slow too. I’m now using the Outlook app which works like a charm, but I would prefer using the Mail app. I’ve just upgraded to an iPhone X and have the same exact problem, even if I have decided to set it up as a new iPhone and upgraded to 11.2 before adding the email accounts.

Any new idea on this?

Really hope it will be addressed soon as it’s very frustrating.

I have had the same problem since I updated to IOS 11, and it has not improved with the 11.1 or .2. This afternoon, none of my new Yahoo emails would load. Thankfully, I have not updated my iphone and could get emails there. I called Apple Tech Support and spent an hour on the phone. I have deleted and reinstalled, done a hard reboot, and tried everything I could think of, and the Tech Support did too, but the problem still exists. My emails are now loading, but it takes forever. Come on, Apple! Please fix this. We have all Apple products, but I am losing faith.

I agree. This really is insane that Apple hasn't stepped up. I continue to initiate chat support sessions just to be taken through all the same old routines. Try "push" settings. Try deleting and restarting your email accounts. Even backup and restore for the entire phone. No help, just continued frustration. I also have been an all apple product guy/family, but we're losing faith....

SO, Apple,

Sept 20th to Dec 12th.

WE ALL HAVE THIS ISSUE.

FIX The problem or justify why we should spend $1000 on a phone that NO LONGER FUNCTIONS WELL BECAUSE OF YOUR UPDATES.

Your reinstall process is ridiculous for an app that was previously working.

I shouldn't have to reinstall the working app to fix the broken operating system.

Nor should you blame a slower processor in an older (iphone 6plus) iphone.

Please provide an update of your own research and plans for correction to give us an idea of future fix.

Everyone, I just got word from Apple support that they are aware of and working on this problem. Apparently, it’s an issue with yahoo email security settings, and the Apple engineers are working on it and it will likely be pushed out in a security update hopefully in the near future. I was not given a timeframe but at least now we know they are working on it. I made the point that Apple needs to participate in this forum and keep us updated better.
