iOS 11 - Clock on lock screen disappears

After upgrading my iPhone SE to iOS 11, the clock on lock screen disappearred.

When I restart, the clock reappears, but again it disappears.

Is there any other solution other than restarting the iPhone?

Looks like this is (maybe) a perm fix. I have had this issue since 11 and re-boot no luck, reset and reinstall from backup no luck, reinstall totally clean no luck. But this easy fix / workaround seems to have worked:

Settings -> Display -> View -> Zoomed and then Settings -> Display -> View -> Standard.

So far almost a full day and no disappearing clock.

I began having this issues on my iPhone 7 following the iOS 11 update. I reset the phone and set up as new. Nothing. Took the phone into apple countless times. They reinstalled 11, reset the phone again as new. Nothing. They gave me a brand new 7. Same thing. All the same steps again. I decided to upgrade to the 8 figuring that would get rid of the issue. After all, the 8 came installed with iOS 11... Set it up as new.. SAME THING. Take it back in. They swapped it out for another new 8. Mind you, it cost me money to upgrade in terms of new applecare and tax, for a phone I really didn't want as I was happy with my 7 and planned to own it in a year. I get a call back from applecare and they escalate it to engineering. They ask for a diagnostic and screenshot of the blank screen, and I provide it. The woman was very helpful at first, now she won't return my calls...

Nothing works for this issue. I thought possibly I had a corrupt file in the cloud, however, I have no problem with my iPad Air 2 running iOS 11.0.3 (same as my phone) and I have everything synced. So that's not it. Thought it was a horoscope website I started using. Cleared my Safari history and it stayed away for 8 days (!!!) before happening again. NOTHING WORKS to keep this horrible bug from returning.

Reading through this thread and based on my own experiences I see that this issue started with iOS 11, Affects multiple different models of iphone, and affects phones both purchased new as well as those upgraded to iOS 11.

I’ve also noticed on my phone that the clock and any messages are sometimes visible for a split second before disappearing and the lock screen image fades slightly. This makes me suspect that there’s a bug in the alert screen or notifications routines. Either way, it’s pretty clear that it’s A bug with iOS 11 and that we’ll need to wait for Apple to fix it.

Hi guys and gals!!! Okay, I think I have found a permanent fix! This has irritated me to know end! I tried all of the things mentioned before in this thread and they worked temporarily but was back to screwing up before nights end. Okay, here's what you need to do. (I'm using iphone 8 plus IOS 11.1.1)

**Make sure you're updated to the latest IOS FIRST**

1) Go to settings>Wallpaper

Change BOTH your lock screen and wallpaper to any Apple Live wallpaper. I believe this somehow updates the display drivers and/or installs them etc.

2) Restart your phone

3) You can then change your wallpaper and lock screen to whatever you want.

** I waited a 3 days to make sure this was a permanent fix before posting this fix and falsely getting everyone's hopes up** The Clock is back and I can see all of my notifications EVERY TIME!!!!

Good Luck! Let me know how it works for you!

I tried this exactly and it did not work, unfortunately. I've gone as many as 8 days without it happening, but it always returns. With this "fix," it worked for one day. Personally, I believe it has something to do with iMessage or notifications, but I'm not sure.

Any work around that reboots the phone will "fix" it temporarily, including switching to zoom, etc. Not a real fix. Hopefully Apple will fix this soon!

I've had this issue since iOS 11 as well on my iphone 7+ and now iPhone X. The only thing that resolved it for me (so far) is not allowing notifications on my lock screen. I also disallowed notifications in history as well since this seemed to be related. It's an annoying fix but it's less annoying than seeing a blank screen 75% of the time I look at my phone... Hopefully a fix will come out soon.

Had this same issue on a 6S after upgrading to iOS11. Followed me to a new 8+.

I switched my lock screen wallpaper and went 4 days without a touchscreen lockup or clock disappearance. Switched back to the original lock screen pic and the clock was gone within 6 hours. My home screen wallpaper is one of the Apple supplied ones.

The picture I was using was one I took with a separate camera and have backed up in iCloud. Now using a different pic from the same photo session.

I’ve tried all the recommended changes with no permanent fix as a result. But this last one to move away from Apple-provided wallpapers and using my own photos for Lock screen and Home page is definitely working, Since picking a photo this morning I’ve not lost the time/date/notification info on the locked screen for a full day. Since ios11.0 I’ve had to reboot 6 - 7 times a day. No reboots today. Yeah!

Hi all,

After 18 days from my last post, I can confirm that this has to be an issue set off by the background photo (wall paper).

I have had the simple black background provided by Apple all this time and not had a recurrence of the fault in question whilst using the phone with the two latest IOS updates.

One day recently, I changed the background photo to a personal one. Within 6 hours the fault appeared, this time more extreme as it would not let me unlock my phone. A restart was required.

I will try this particular wallpaper, even tho I don’t like the plain black. But I’ve tried every other suggestion made on here so I might as well. Personally I think it’s not connected to any wallpaper, notification, widget, etc. it’s just a horrible bug that happens randomly. They need to address this. Period. I’m on my 4th phone now with this issue.
