iOS 11 - Clock on lock screen disappears

I did notice that I can tell when this was about to happen by looking at the widgets. They would be stuck not showing as well as the camera not showing. I removed 2 widgets 1 for my bank and 1 for weather and the missing clock has not happened for the last 2 days.

Has anyone else tried removing some of the widgets?

I posted that I had this clock problem earlier, but I have no widgets (broken or otherwise) vying for the lock screen, so the problem is not necessarily anything to do with widgets. I did the Zoom on and off workaround and the clock is still displaying on the lock screen. The question now is: dare I upgrade again to iOS 11.0.3? Nothing in Apple’s notes to say this latest upgrade fixes this...

Have you tried shutting off some of the widgets and the notifications? It’s possible one or more of them are just not behaving well. It seems that once something crashes the clock display it won’t come back until the display is recycled which only happens on rare events like power and reboot. Also it seems that the apps that are having issues wont clear their data and stop crashing the display until after it’s been off for a while. And some may still crash. Apple could solve this by putting a frown on the culprits and stopping them but it’s been going on a while.

I’ve tried all the recommended changes with no permanent fix as a result. But this last one to move away from Apple-provided wallpapers and using my own photos for Lock screen and Home page is definitely working, Since picking a photo this morning I’ve not lost the time/date/notification info on the locked screen for a full day. Since ios11.0 I’ve had to reboot 6 - 7 times a day. No reboots today. Yeah!

Using personal photos for lock and b/g screens and using Bold Text, I lost the clock on the lock screen. Had to turn off Bold Text to keep the clock showing. Since I upgraded to 11.1.2 no problems with Bold Text selected for 2 days. iPhone X.

I removed my ING banking widget. No problems after that. Maybe because I haven't been using my phone a lot lately but it might have to do with widgets that retrieve data from apps. But I also have the coinbase widget that also updates frequently....

The same problem here in the Netherlands. For me it started in ios 10.3, so before iOS 11! I read everything about this subject, but no solution until 6 days ago .... a Dutch site about Apple, iCulture.nl, recently gave some possible solutions Sorry, only in Dutch. One of them was found in banking widgets.

I found THE solution in switching off the widget from my homebank, ING Bank.

I realise that most of you won’t have that particular widget, but finding, finally, a solid solution is great news.

My conclusion is that a mix of iOS and some Apple language in a widget causes all our frustrations.

I have this problem too! It's been incredibly frustrating as I have an iPhone X (it occurred on my 6s+ as well). Screen with wallpaper only (no clock, no date, can't swipe right or left).

Turning the bold text option (Settings>General>Accessibility) on then off again always works, but the phone has to restart. I use the Discover widget, so hate to get rid of that, but I may try to attempt to isolate the problem.

I called Apple and they weren't helpful (they couldn't figure the issue out). It does seem to be something buggy with an App or widget vs. a direct software issue (although it's still on Apple's onus to fix this extremely annoying problem).

I thank you for the suggestion. I removed my fandango widget and then set my other remaining widgets to allow some sort of notification. I had a couple of them that I had previously turned off notifications for. Eg fandango. For this test I didn’t set all the notifications to the same settings or allow them all to show in the locked screen. It’s been 2 days now and I’ve not lost my time/date settings in my locked screen. I’m hoping for the best with this change bc rebooting multiple times a day every time it happens was getting annoying.

Ditto....Super annoying. I was told to change "display" setting to zoomed and then change it back. It's worked for about 4 hours now.....but we shall see.

I was able to change it back to Zoomed after the restart and so far the Time/date is still there...🙂

I tried all of that and the problem kept coming back. I recently removed the Google keyboard Gboard and have gone over 24 hours without reoccurrence.

Looks like iOS 11.1 update may have fixed it although it was not listed among the “fixes “. 36hrs now and no recurrence.

It’s the OS not the device. Try cutting back on how many widgets you’re running.

Don’t think it’s carrier specific - it seems like a bug in the notifications display routine of the OS. I’m on T-mo and am routinely experiencing it. I don’t have any 3rd party keyboards installed, so I can elimanate that. I tried the display zoom - unzoom trick and the problem returned within an hour. Then I tried just leaving it zoomed and it hasn‘t recurred for about 16 hours, which is a start.

Going to updated to 11.1 - sounds like that doesn’t fix it either, but maybe it will fix some of the other bugs. iOS 11 is an entomologist’s delight.
