IOS 11 upgrade and Renault R-Link

After upgrading my iPhone SE to IOS 11 the bluetooth connection with my Renault R-Link does not work anymore. Connection the phone manually sometimes helps. But it used to connect automatically.

While many people are having problems, a majority of users upgrade to a new iOS version without any issues. My Honda CR-V works just the same on iOS 11 as it did on iOS 10 and iOS 9. Most people just won't come to a discussion board to post that all is well and they aren't having any issues. If something changes in an Android phone or update, the same problem will occur.

On this site specifically look at the section "What To Do When My Bluetooth Won't Connect to My Car?" where it states, "If you started facing the problem after a recent update of your phone's firmware, then you may want to check if your car's Bluetooth kit is compatible or not."

As you will see with different vehicles, phones, and updates, the same problem exists in Android. There is no one here that will be hurt if you decide that Android is the way to go for you. Just make sure that you don't do it based on thinking that you aren't going to run into the same or similar issues.

Simply put, yes.

Take it to your local Renault dealer and they can update the software to the latest version. Having taken my car yesterday I can confirm that bluetooth connections are now working with iOS11. Getting the software updated also solved the long-standing issue with UK speed cameras displaying the km/h value as mp/h. It only took two years!

See my post above - this is not an Apple issue. Many other phone manufacturers have the same issue when updates to Android are released. I provided links to other posts on Android and other forums. One of the troubleshooting steps is to contact your vehicle manufacturer. If the vehicle manufacturer refuses to do anything about it then there's not much you can do because while some people have seen iOS updates fix the issue it is very rare. Some vehicle manufacturers have already said they are working on fixes. Contact your vehicle manufacturer and find out if a fix is in the works. Posting here that Apple needs to fix it won't do any good.

Hello.

Thank you for your post that really helps to solve a problem a didn't have before.

I just finished to update IOS to a last update available today v11.0.3.

I will be back to you to give you feedback if the problem is solved or not with an Apple fix.

As far as I remember V11.0.1 -> V11.0.2 ->V11.0.3 in really short period tell us something about fix stability.

Same to my car. Renault will create an update for RLink2 at end of november.

I am not happy, that Apple didn´t signed the download version of IOS 10.3.3. because I like to reinstall it.

I have several problems with IOS 11 especiall 11.0.2. and I fear the new version 11.0.3. will not fix them.

My iphone 5s is to old for IOS 11 but amazing with IOS 10.

For my own - please Apple make it possible to downgrade to IOS 10.3.3. or take mor care with new versions.

Actually I have to wait for december and hope one of many problems will solved by Renault, not by apple!

It´s the first time I wish, my first smart phone was an android!!!!

I have the same problem with my R-LINK2. I don´t know who is the responsable for this important security problem!!! I need my handsfree everyday. I think Apple could do anymore for me it´s simple!!! with iOS 10.3.3 everything was ok, let me downgrade to 10.3.3 my iPhone 7. Renault always the same..... i have read at this post Renault has a new version for this problem but ..you have to go to the official garage and miss one or two day without car.

Thank Apple and Renault.

Note: I have Apple since 10 years and its the fist time i am completamente disappointed. Renault i knew what i was buying.

I did get contacted by Apple and helped them with making logfiles of the bluetooth connection. But they did not have a solution. I also called Renault in the Netherlands ant they told me I have a Rlink 1 and there was an update. Bu the app on my pc could not download it. I had to go to the dealer for it. The dealer told me there was no update for my unit. So I decided to give the Rlink unit a factory reset. Dat did the trick and it worked for 2 days. In the process I lost all my TomTom destinations because it is not possible to back-up the unit. But after 2 day's I am back to the same problem. I am getting really angry now. Spend 600 Euro for a phone. And the result is that half of the day I can't use it. On this moment I drive around with a old Android to be able to use my handsfree unit. I have 20 years of IT experience behind me and i know that if you do an update and somethings breaks it is for 99% certain it was because of the update. So IOS10 was a very nice reliable OS. After the update to IOS11 something is broken with the bluetooth connections. Going back to IOS10 is not possible. Apple fix this, you no the only smartphone on the market anymore!

I have read some of the answers and feel the need for Apple to provide a patch . Everything was worked ne from RLink person écrive before the upgrade. I do not see the patch should come

From Renault!

Other issue and I do not know if some of you got the same issue : using Air France apps on my mobile, I do not have anymore access to the boarding pass option. Thanks for you answers

Apple will help Renault if they ask but the update needs to be done through a firmware update to the system so an iOS update is unlikely to fix it.

Do a search online for Android updates and car systems stop working. You’ll find that Apple isn’t the only one with issues. One of Android’s troubleshooting steps is to contact the manufacturer for software updates to the system.

ENOUGHHHHHH...

1. I don't want IOS 11 anymore...My Iphone 6 doesnt work with my Kadjar.. APPLE Please hear me and give us a link. I want my IOS 10.3.3 back. Please Apple do it for us. Otherwise I will need to post this telephone to you.....

2. My wife has Renault too and she intended to buy an iphone 8. Under current issues she doesn't think to buy. Is there any iphone in the market, which uses IOS 10 ??

Oct 17, 2017 6:49 AM in response to anypats

Dear anypats, please don't make defance for Apple... Everything was working with IOS 10.3.3 and Apple spoiled it with last update of the IOS. If someone damage something, he has to repair or find a solution. It is not my matter if any android has a problem... I had no problem and now I have a problem, because of Apple.... How can I scream more ?????

Apple has to understand us....

Oct 17, 2017 7:22 AM in response to Achileus

I am not defending Apple just letting everyone know that nothing they do will change the fact that the car manufacturer needs to update their system. Renault has already told users that they are working on it. It would have been nice for them to do it while iOS 11 was in beta but at least they’re working on it. They could have just said “Not our fault” and left you out in the cold.
