IOS 11 incompatible with Honda handsfree bluetooth

Ever since upgrading to IOS 11, my iPhone 6 plus won’t connect with the handsfree bluetooth function in my 2015 Honda CRV. I’ve tried disconnecting, rebooting, etc. Has anyone else experienced a problem with their bluetooth linking in cars?

It is working properly for me with a 6s+.

Have you tried deleting the phone from the list of phones on the car, resetting all settings on the iPhone and then adding the phone back to the list of phones on the car and pairing one more time?

I have a 2017 MDX Advanced. Last oil change, the service manager sat with me in my car and saw the problem with the phonebook and with Pandora. He said Apple had said they would fix the problem in a month. That was 7 weeks ago. It is an Apple problem plain and simple. It affects hundreds of thousands of Apple customers who have vehicles with Handsfreelink. I'll give Apple a few more weeks, and then it is goodbye Apple, hello Samsung.

I'm with you on that!! My husband has made NUMEROUS phone calls to Acura dealership, Acura corporate, and i have been contacting Apple tech for this issue. Since September when all the 11.x.x comes out. NOTHING has happened except that Apple had been notified about the problem. i've sent diagnostics to Apple about my iPhone and the result is the Apple engineers and Acura engineers are working on it. At first Apple said it was Acura's firmware, and Acura says it's Apple's software. Here i am... I bought a brand new EXPENSIVE car, bought in July which stopped pairing with my iPhone in September. My phone book which has over 200 contacts in it only shows up FOUR, one of which is my phone number. All my speed dial numbers are gone...Great. I was even told to reset my phone to version 10.3.4 ( which can't be done.) It's frustrating and aggravating having to stop at a parking lot while driving to make important calls. Luckily, i can receive calls. I also told my husband I'm ready to return this car. I'm disgusted with the service ( there is none except for someone to attempt to placate you) and am constantly wondering how they are still selling cars at Acura without telling this to the buyer..OH GUESS WHAT, if you have an Apple iPhone, that is updated, your phone won't work properly.. That isn't happening.

It’s both the software and the firmware. The software essentially “broke” the ability for the phone to connect to the car but it’s the manufacturer’s responsibility to update the firmware. Apple will assist the manufacturer if requested. If they have told you that Acura and Apple are working on a fix then just be patient. Hopefully the fix will come sooner than later.

******* I can’t believe the runaround we’ve all been getting from two giant corporations, either of which could remedy this.

That said, I believe it’s Apple’s responsibility to make it right. Just as they finally took responsibility for the planned obsolescence of their older iPhones, they need to take responsibility for this “conscious uncoupling “ from Handsfree Link.

I totally agree with you... I have a brand new Acura RDX whose phone connections have not been working since SEPTEMBER. The car was 2 months old. Unfortunately, we are still getting the run around from both Apple and Acura.

BUT i am adamant about getting this situation fixed...not only for me, but for obviously thousands of other folks who are now very distrustful of these companies. Still in contact with both of them, will let you know if anything positive happens.

I wish they would work on this instead of working on the apple watch.

They have different teams that work on different projects. They have different employees with different specialties. Even if they were to stop full development of the Apple Watch and assign them to help a car manufacturer with their firmware, most of them would have no idea what to do.

This is all on the car manufacturers for not updating their firmware in time for the new iOS. Yes, I acknowledge that it worked before and that iOS essentially "broke" the connection between the vehicle and the phone, but it is the vehicle manufacturers that are responsible for updating the firmware.

All I know is that my cousin's Samsung Note 8 works perfectly with my 2017 MDX Advanced. I'm ready to update my iPhone 6 Plus anyway. Apple should realize it is easier and less costly to change a phone than buy or lease a new vehicle. Apple makes one operating system. Car manufacturers make dozens of models, all with different radios. Ever hear the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"?

Well, my saga continues. Just to add some data points to the things I've tried to date (again my problem is static, hiss squeal when on a call only). Went to AT&T they suggested changing cellular - enable LTE to Data only. No change. Went to Apple Genius, reset my iPhone X to factory and set up as new. No change. Got a different iPhone X and set up as new. No change.

Finally, I just gave up and ordered a bluetooth car kit that plugs into my Aux outlet on my Pilot and connects to my iPhone X through bluetooth. It works, sounds like a cheap handsfree car phone, which it is, but at least there is no static, hiss or squeal.

Since updating to the 11 my contracts/phonebook doesn’t sync over to my Hyundai’s Bluetooth now which defeats the purpose of driving handsfree. I can’t use my system because there’s no phone book to pull from. I live in California and we can’t hold the phone. This is absolutely frustrating. I call Apple and they think it’s the software all of a sudden. It was just working minutes before the update.
