Photos app on iPhone not syncing in iOS 11

I upgraded my iPhone7, iPad AIr and iPad Pro to iOS 11.

The iPad Air had stopped syncing Photos properly, reboots did not correct it, turning off ICloud Photo Library and Upload to My PhotoStream, rebooting and then turning them back on did not work. I finally logged out of my iCloud account and back in, and it seems to be resolved on that device a few days back.

But now the iPhone 7 is doing the same thing. I repeated these steps of turning off ICloud Photo Library and Upload to My PhotoStream, rebooting and then turning them back on, and I did get the Photo to sync partially, but it stopped at 38,880 (photos and videos), whereas the Mac on Sierra, and the two iPads all show 57.755 (photos and videos).

I've made sure that I'm on wifi (I did have it set to allow cellular too).

With the Photos app open and the phone on the charger, I can see periodically that something is working briefly (the swirl next to the wifi signal) but the photos count is stagnant at 38,880.

I've also tried resetting the Network Settings.

I guess my next step is to log out of my iCloud account on the iPhone entirely, reboot and log in again.

Anyone else with this issue find another less painful fix?

I see that this thread has been going on for some time and I am reticent to offer such a simple solution, but it worked for me.

You mentioned turning off both “iCloud Photo Library” and “Upload to my Photo Stream”. I assume that means that you previously had both settings on. So did I. When I switched off “Upload to my Photo Stream” on all my devices, this problem was resolved within a day (it takes time for all of the missing photos to upload or download, so the problem is not fixed immediately).

It appears, from my research, that there is no need to have both settings on. If you have iCloud Photo Library, you don‘t need “upload to my Photostream”. The iCloud Photo Library, if activated on all devices logged into the same iCloud account, already uploads all. The photostream is a short term syncing solution for those who do not want to pay for the storage for iCloud Photo Library.

So, once I turned Photo Stream off, and iCloud Photo Library on, on all my devices. It fixed the problem for me.

I said I was reticent to post, because I am not sure this will work for all, and because it seems silly that, if that is the problem, Apple would not warn people or, even better, make it impossible not to select both options at the same time.

So, for what it is worth, here are my current iPad Pro settings for Photos:

Exactly. The iTunes sync problem remains unsolved. And, frankly, Apple may never solve it as they make theor margins now selling iCloud services, and not the phones. None of the serious photographers, professional or amateur, in this thread will want either the reduced file sizes or the sever limit on the number of images associated with Apple's iCloud consumer product. e

That is my point. Apple will support processes that require purchase of large quantities of its iCloud and other web services, and seemingly has abandoned those of us who relied on iTunes for photo sync between devices and MacBooks. I have a NAS drive for backup, and now with a Note 8 and Surface Book can achieve my needs outside the Apple ecosystem.

It shows a small white circle and not syncing. If I completely erase and clean install the problem don't exit. If I upgrade and keep my old data the problem appears. It's also same - when I try to set an image from iCloud shared library as a wallpaper. Again - a small white circle, wait for ever and don't move. I also tried to save image into folder or in image from iCloud shared library - It's not able save image locally.

I updated both the MacBook Pro and iTunes this evening, as well as the iPad Mini 3, all to the most recent updates, and still the same problem transferring pics from the MacBook to the iPad via iTunes -- only about 1,500 of the 20,000 I am nolonger getting the error message saying there is an internal problem on the iPad, but the result is the same. Most of the folders are named with "0" pics in them. Waste of time.

Still not fixed with Windows iTunes 12.7.1.14 and iOS 11.1 on iPhone 5S. Exactly the same thing. No photos on my iPhone Synced folders. No sync new photos. Not possible to delete already synced photos to re-sync everything. Should we wait for 11.2 ? or Should we buy an 8x ? Very disappointed ! AAAPPPLLLEEE SUPPORT ! When ? When this issue would be corrected ? When ? !!!

Afraid this issue has not bee

n fixed with the updates.

I have had this problem for several weeks now and had support from Apple case No. xxxxx

I have never used iCloud for my photos but keep them synced via iTunes with my iPad Air and also iPhone6s.

My 15000 odd pics have presented no trouble up till now.

Now, the ipad fails to sync and I have only been able to get 8000 photos back into albums on my ipad.

Apple: why on earth do we need a software upgrade to giv us 70 more emoji when you cannot rectify a major issue with your hardware and the software which run them.

I am getting rather tired of wasting my time trying to do unsuccessful syncs.

It is embarrassing. I also explained to Apple Care: we are using only Apple hardware, even the USB cable comes from Apple, all the software is from Apple... but perhaps most importantly, Apple wouldn't allow any other mechanism for sync (direct USB transfer from disc to disc for instance) other than iTunes - so it has to work! If Apple would give us more mechanisms to achieve the same thing we wouldn't be so impatient.

It appears that Apple intends to support syncing through iCloud subscriptions and not directly through iTunes. As I mentioned, I has so much trouble with this last summer with my 6s iPhone that I have upgraded to the Note 8 and love it. I stihave my iPad mini, which was my primary photos display tool, and it is now a brick useful only for watching iTunes movies. If this is not fixed, I expect the Apple TV will be the only Apple product I will use in the future as we have a great deal if iTunes video content.

Im having the same issue, and in fact I lost a lot of my photos when I upgraded to 11.1. Checking them on iCloud showed they were all low res versions that were no good to anyone. The strange thing is 3rd party apps were displaying these just fine.

Anyway, as from a few days ago none of my iOS devices are syncing any photos. I have more than enough storage space on the devices and on iCloud. In fact as I pay for this iCloud fiasco I’m shocked that Apple allow this to happen with a paid for service.

ive always stuck with Apple as ive always boasted to others how the photos and files all sync together. Now I feel stupid and nothing more than a disillusioned fanboy.

Apple had me for a few years, and now they purposely mess things up. I wont be restoring my devices, as that’s not a fix, i also wont be keeping them for much longer as enough is enough. Looking at the various threads it seems Apple are going downhill with so many bugs and issues.

so disappointed in Apple. First, my pencil won’t sync via bluetooth to ipad. THen the ’I” gets a weird symbol and box. Now my photos don’t sync between iPhone and ipad via cloud.. I honeslty am disgusted with Apple now, and especially ios11......... They never seem to help. Just rush the product out with so many bugs....Microsoft and Google will capitalize on this crap to the moon and back. #sosickofapple
