Since iOS11 Bluetooth keeps disconnecting

Since I upgraded to OS11 my iPhone 6 keeps disconnecting from the Bluetooth in my car, a Mazda 6 2015 vintage. To reconnect I have to select the phone on my cars infotainment unit and off it goes working for a while longer until it again disconnects mid song. This didn’t occur prior to OS11, any ideas?

Hello Pathfineroz,

I was having the same problem with my Bluetooth devices continuously disconnecting and then reconnecting on the iPhone after the iOS 11 update. It did this with all Bluetooth devices such as my car, powerbeats, etc. I use my Bluetooth headphones at the gym and on runs so you can see how this was a huge annoyance for me.

Anyways, this morning I was reading some articles and came across one that suggested I should reset all networks. I did that along with hitting the “forget this device” feature. I’ve been using my Bluetooth wireless headphones ever since I did that (for a little over an hour) and voila I haven’t had any disconnection issues!

I am not tech savvy whatsoever and I didn’t read through all of the comments in this discussion so hopefully I am not being repetitive and I am able to provide some assistance.

I have the exact same issue. Devices connected to my iPhone 6+ disconnects when using bluetooth. Had this issues with all versions of iOS11 - currently on latest version 11.1.2.

I have this issue both with my 2016 BMW 1-series and with my Plantronics Voyager Focus UC headset at work - it's getting painfully embarrassing talking to customers using my headset knowing that I will get disconnected from the call several times.

I hope the issues will be fixed once I get my iPhone X hopefully later this week.

Yes, I too have been having this issue with my iPhone 6s since upgrading to iOS 11.x. None of the patches seem to address this very obvious issue as my phone repeatedly drops and reconnects my Bluetooth connection between the phone and my Honda Accord's stock radio system (about every 15-30 minutes) and my downstairs home speakers. I also just bought a new pair of bookshelf speakers for my bedroom and connected them to my phone. Unfortunately, the same thing occurs with this brand new pairing.

I do have a Fitbit which is connected via Bluetooth, but without constantly having the app open, I would not be aware of how often, if ever, the connection is dropped and reconnected between the two.

It would drive you crazy wouldn't it? I even contacted Mazda Europe and they said they can't help as Mazda 5 stopped selling in 2014 and they've stopped testing the tech with new phones. I don't understand how it all works as like you said, phone calls work fine, connecting works fine - it's just playing music or using sat nav apps, (apple maps, google maps etc). How can one work fine and not the other?

It's driving me bonkers! I spend so long in the car I just want to listen to music and follow directions. If it isn't fixed in the next beta I'm giving my new X back under warranty as a defective product and buying an Android.

How they manage to break so much during releases I'll never know!!

Chalk up another one to this same issue. iPhone 6s and ever since moving to IOS 11 (all the way to 11.2) I have frequent bluetooth disconnects. In the car it disconnects and then reconnects, but on other devices the music just stops playing and I have to hit play again.

This happens in the car, on a CoolStream Duo, Coulax Headphones, and a Magicbox ... so I don't think it's the hardware. It never used to happen at all in IOS 10. This is my first iPhone and I used to love it, because it just worked ... but now all the bugs in IOS 11 are driving me crazy.

I am up to iOS v11.2.5 on my iPhone 6s and I still drop off of both my car (2015 Prius) and Anker Bluetooth headphones. In my car, bluetooth will disconnect and the screen will say "STOPPED". I then have to either reconnect, if lucky, or disconnect from the car and re-connect. When I'm on a treadmill listening with my earbuds, it just stops and I have to reconnect. This happens intermittently. Sometimes it's a couple of hours between disconnections and sometimes it's minutes.

Another thing I noticed is voice navigation through Maps, Google Maps, or Waze doesn't work as it used to. I either get no sound from the navigation or it talks over my speakers like a voice call, then whatever I'm listening to stops and I have to manually start it.

This is beyond frustrating.

I am facing the same issue with frequently disconnecting Bluetooth. It disconnects every 5 minute. The Bluetooth speakers I am using are Samsung Soundbar, iHome, and Bose Mini. Same issue with all of them. I am on iPhone 6S with iOS 11.2.1.

Hope Apple is working on fixing the issue instead of sending the instructions on "how to connect to Bluetooth devices" while not fixing the real issue in their iOS. 😟

In my opinion, customer support seems to have given you some lame reason to go along with, saying so because I am using 6S which worked fine until iOS 11 and started seeing this frequent disconnect issue only after iOS 11. None, absolutely none of my hardware changed from before iOS 11 to after.

So, if it is me I would not believe them to waste my money on buying a new speaker and will wait for iOS 12, hoping atleast that will fix this stupid annoying issue of theirs.

I updated my iPhone 6s to iOS 11.3 beta and there is still no fix. Bluetooth 'stopped' when connected to my car. Again.

This is something curious I've seen. In my 2015 Prius, when Bluetooth disconnects, the display says "STOPPED" and I have to select the audio source as Bluetooth again. On my wireless earbuds, I don't get a message when I'm listening to a podcast, it just stops and I can hit play again - no reconnecting. Is it really disconnecting or is it just stopping?

It is a bigger issue then you are describing and it appears to be getting worse. I spoke to someone at Apple and they said it has been escalated to engineering and they are working to figure it out. The bottom line is this is a crap operating system and they did not work out all the bugs they needed to obviously. The same thing happened to some extent with the initial release of the 7+ and whatever version operating system it was. I tried everything and they are sending me another phone. I even wiped my phone out as a last resort and set it up as new and it still has the same issues. Hey Siri doesn’t work on my phone either. Even the guy at the Apple store couldn’t get it to work. Really sad considering how expensive these phones are. There is no excuse for 10’s of thousands of people to be having issues. That’s not an exaggeration.

I have same problem when using Bluetooth to play music on my 2011 mazda3. It randomly disconnect and reconnect. Very annoying. I have notice it happen more frequently when other people’s Bluetooth or WiFi devices around. I have test it when I go to some rural area the connection will stay much longer. Very dissapointed. Hope they fix this really soon.

Hi everyone,

I've read this entire thread, and many others as well. I've tried all of the suggestions in this thread to no avail (delete phone from car, delete car from phone + repair, reset all network settings, hard reset (even set up phone from scratch; no backup restored), installed latest 11.3 beta 3).

However, today I came across this thread: bluetooth keeps dropping and reconnecting

It's a very old issue (since iOS 7ish), but it appears to be the same and hasn't been resolved either. They have a particular workaround I have yet to try, but many are reporting success in there; turn off WiFi.

I don't want to get your hopes up, but I'll definitely report back in a week on whether it has helped or not. In the meanwhile, I highly suggest you guys try this as well, and report on your what kind of success you're having with this workaround in place so that we have more data points at our disposal.

Best of luck,

Gary

Also, in this entire thread people are complaining about the same issue and all of are almost same model . Either iphone 6, 6s, 6plus and 6s plus. When there is a new version of iPhone out doesnt mean everyone have to leave their old devices and go buy new devices right.. They should have downgrade compatibility issue.

It is been already reported that iOS 11 Battery consumption is high with old devices like iphone 6 , 6s 6splus.

Regarding bluetooth, the reason people might not have complained is everyone might not be using their phone with wireless Bluetooth. People who are using complaining but no one is responding.
