Spinning wheel next to WiFi on iPhone

Hello:

Since I have updated to iOS 11; my phone constantly has the "spinning wheel" issue. My background app refresh is off along with location services. It even spins when connected to Wifi. Does anyone else have this issue? Any help is greatly appreciated since this draining my battery quickly!

Ok here is the solution.....

Technical Fix for outstanding iOS 11 bug...

Ok I’m not that big on all the changes in IOS 11 for iPhone. I had the continuous data spinning wheel issue that would not go away.

THERE IS ONLY ONE RESOLVE FOR THIS ISSUE.

You must do a forced restart. (I have the big boy 7 plus)

Simultaneously push n hold side lock key (right side button) while depressing volume down key (left side, bottom button) for up to 10 seconds.

Give it time to power down and then turn it back on.

Issue should be fixed.

I contacted Apple support for this problem and this is what they told me to do and it did solve the problem. Go to Settings, General, Background App Refresh. Toggle Background App Refresh to "off". Don't just turn it off for each app but turn Background App Refresh off. Then force restart your phone by simultaneously holding down the right side lock button and the volume down button until the phone restarts. The hard restart does not make you lose any information. This fixed it for me.

Mine is iphone 6s, I had this issue since today morning ~ it kept black screen & spinning wheel & returning to "enter password" page! i couldn't even type a proper whatsapp message or view a internet page. it just constantly happens!

Actually i updated to ios11 2 weeks ago, & i updated to latest version of IOS 11 just now after i had this problem. But the problem still doesn't go away! i turned my iphone off now, since this problem really heats up the iphone itself.

Come on iphone! don't make me smash you onto the floor~ this bug is just so stupid!

And it really annoys me since i'm not a heavy smartphone user! i don't even use iphone to play games or listening music !!!

Hi my iphone 6s plus strated doing this exact same thing this morning. Read the forum tried everything others were saying to do. " FOUND A SOLUTION AND MY PHONE HAS NOT DONE IT SINCE"... go to SETTINGS, then GENERAL, then RESET, then ERASE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS. It will only erase the phone settings etc not your personal things... hope it helps. It did for me

pesarek84, thanks to your contribution i believe i was able to resolve my issue - only after doing due diligence and trying what everyone else said, short of completely erasing and resetting back to factory settings.

this seemed to be a multi-prong issue for me -

1.

my iCloud was full, and i had put off upgrading my storage account. when i asked a friend about the blackscreen/spinning wheel issue, she said she heard it has to do with iCloud. so i went in and upgraded.

2a.

followed pesarek84's instructions, and attempted to backup before deleting, but it kept blackscreen/spinning wheeling so i wasn't able to clear it all out.

2b.

then, i wasn't sure if i had iOS 11 installed, thought maybe i was on 10. found that i did have 11.1, but also found the 11.2 upgrade. started the installation process for it, however i needed to backup my phone, and had trouble doing so since the blackscreen/spinning wheel thing kept happening, restarting the process.

except that this time, when it would 'shut off', i'd go back and try to install the iOS update, and luckily it seemed to pick up where it left off. once the download was complete, it rebooted itself and now seems to work fine, with no blackscreen/spinning wheel action.

in the past, the sleep/volume down button seemed to have some cache clearing action, as it would make apps run faster but it didn't help at all with this issue.

hope that dl'ing iOS 11.2 works for those still affected!

I used Siri and it worked for me. I just got my 8+ less than a week ago. It started spinning a couple days ago. I simply asked Siri to turn off my Wi-Fi and turn it back on. When I turned my Wi-Fi off and on manually on my own, it didn’t work but when Siri did it it worked! Thanks for your idea! It really worked. All the other ideas I tried, the spinning wheel came right back. ☺

Up until yesterday I had this problem. Resetting my phone would only fix it temporarely, along with turning it off and then back on. One of the options I read on here was restoring my phone, but I did not want to do that. I found a solution that did work though.

If you push the sleep/wake button as if turning it off, it will then when it gives you the option to swipe the top of the screen to turn it off. So instead of swiping, push and hold the home button. Keep doing that until it takes you to the home screen. At that point, it should be gone.
