iPhone 8: crackling static noise during calls

I have the same issue. It’s very annoying during the call. You got 14 days to return the phone. I mean if they don’t fix it within 14 days. I’ll definitely return it until they fix it. What a horrible release.

Because Apple has already said (as has been posted here) that an update will fix the problem. So, by inference you can assume it is not a hardware problem.

Yes. People are constantly complaining about the quality of the call. It's dropping more calls and even entirely cutting out so that they can't hear me at all - and that's when I'm not accidentally covering up the microphone. 🙂 This bad boy is going back.

Should I return it? I don't believe firmware update will fix this seems like hardware. Should of got Note 8.

I have upgraded to 11.0.2 and the problem got resolved temporarily. However the annoying crackling is back and it is as mentioned earlier really annoying. Now I need to reach out to Apple again. I was torn between the Note 8 and iPhone 8 plus. Now I know I should have gone for the Note 8

I updated to iOS 11.2 as recommended, no change. But then I did a hard reboot and the crackling was mostly reduced. Unfortunately, the sound quality is still garbage compared to using an external speaker or headset. What a disappointment of a phone.

I believe this is a known bug from Apple. As to when the fix will be pushed out, I am still unclear. However, this could be a quick deployment in the code which is all automated so can probably be done in the next iOS patch of 11

I have iPhone 8 plus, iOS 11.0.3

Apart from static noise, below are additional observations,

1. If I use Speaker phone for making a phone call or answering a phone call, I can hear the other end persons voice clearly but the other person couldn’t hear me.

2. When I use Voice Memo recording, start recording and play it. It doesn’t Speaks’s out what has been recorded but the same static noise which I hear when making a call or receiving a call.

3.

When I tap mike feature from Google, provided on search box and speaks something to search (holding iPhone next to my mouth), it doesn’t accepting my voice. In fact it doesn’t hear you.

I’ve reported this to Apple support team. Let’s see how it works!...

Does Apple make replacement for faulty devices?

The problem persists... 😟 even after the latest update (to 11.0.3). My gut feeling: it is a hardware problem and Apple is trying to do everything possible not to do a recall of the iPhone 8 (i.e. by changing the standard equalizer settings so that the crackling is not heard so well anymore). 😐

There is a long thread on this at MacRumors. It goes across all carriers.

Hello guys n dolls, im from Norway and i have also this problem with my phone, my collegue has the same problem so this must be fixed asap. This is a expensive phone with crackling problems, annoying like h.... !
