iPhone 8 bluetooth issues

My new iPhone 8 is having all kinds of wonkiness with bluetooth. It refused to pair with my AirPods, repeatedly dropped connection to my 2016 car, routinely loses connection with my series 1 watch and refused to connect to unlock my laptop (all things that I had no issues with before moving over from my iPhone 6). Apple support told me to erase all content, reset and go through a reinstall from a backup (and all the password re-entry etc.) which I did wasting a couple hours of my day. Their remote diagnostic said bluetooth was fine and some of my apps (none to be named) had problems necessitating this restoration from backup. Needless to say, the issue does not seem solved. Anyone else having bluetooth issues with the iPhone 8? All of these bluetooth connectivity issues worked flawlessly on the 6 (with iOS11 and all prior iterations I had) so I may just sent the 8 back and live w/ my 3 year old battery for a while longer.....

Possible fix to some of the issues. We had an appointment at the Apple Store last night and discussed this issue with them. My wife's Ford Explorer was dropping the bluetooth out intermittently during phone calls and even when not in a phone call. Her watch would also disconnect at times. The weird thing was we discovered that she could play music and it would not drop out when streaming music through bluetooth. We told the Apple Genius that we had restored the phone from a backup several times and that did not fix the issue. The Apple Genius felt strongly that the backup had something corrupt about it so he suggested that we restore this as a new phone and not restore from the backup any longer. We had to manually save all of the photos and contacts to a hard drive before doing this. Once we restored this phone as a new phone, we then added all of the photos and contacts again from the hard drive. We also had to add all of the apps manually. Finally, we tested making phone calls several times and we have not had an issue once. This may help some of you in the future. It is a long process so be prepared for this to take a few hours depending on the amount of files that you have. Good luck!

I solved the problem! Went to my Subaru dealer and they erased my phone and reconnected it using voice commands in the car Bluetooth. The instructions for that are not in the car manual!! Using the buttons on the car is somehow different than voice commands and the buttons do not work but the voice commands for connecting iPhone 8 and Subaru Outback 2013 worked! Now I’m always automatically connected!!

I have also had problems with the Bluetooth on the iPhone 8. Cannot keep connectivity with my hands free speaker for my phone in my truck. I had a Motorola Roadster 2. I could not keep the phone connected to the Roadster. I bought a Jabra Freeway and same issues. The Roadster worked fine with my 7, same operating system, iOS 11. Something is wrong with the 8’s Bluetooth. The Roadster works fine with my wife’s iPhone 7.

I have the same issue after upgrading from iPhone7 Plus to iPhone8 Plus.

My Mio Fuse did work flawlessly with my iPhone7 Plus but keep on connecting and drop in iPhone8 Plus. Tried different method like reset network setting, deleting the Apps and reinstall, forget the devices and etc. None of them works.

I also noted my Airpod keeps on randomly try to connect though it is already connected to function and play music, as I heard the "ton" sound sometimes when in use.

Apple should find out a fix for this!

We shouldn’t have to downgrade - I love the 8 apart from the Bluetooth problem. I thought it was my car but it didn’t work in my wife’s car so it’s clearly the phone.

I’ve got a workaround which is you have to connect manually every time you start your car - it’s not ideal and Apple need to sort this. It can’t just be a few of us but I haven’t seen a lot about this problem on Twitter. Apple - please help!

I just upgraded from the 6s+ to the 8+. I wear Kirkland Signature 6 digital hearing aids synced with my phone. They have worked flawlessly with BOTH of my previous iPhones. Now, when I answer the phone, sometimes the call is in my ears, other times it’s on the phone itself. My digital One Touch glucometer has the same problem. Sometimes after I test my sugar the phone sees the meter, sometimes not. Today I spoke with someone in Apple support. She had me reset all setting on the phone. I tried it and it is still doing the same thing. I am VERY disappointed in Apple. This has a BIG effect on me. I sure hope someone from Apple is reading this a paying attention. I know that I am advising my friends to NOT upgrade to the 8, 8+, or X. I’m starting to see shades of Microsoft.

Apple doesn't create the Bluetooth standards, they have to follow those set by that group just like everyone else. The manufacturer of the Bluetooth chip in the iPhone has the relevant firmware. Apple does not design the chip or write the firmware. The problems occur when some manufacturers improperly coded their firmware/BT profiles under prior versions. This happened with my car and my company updated the firmware on my car.

Okay, so I'm not crazy! My wife's iPhone 8+ refuses to connect at all with her Honda. I thought it must be a setting somewhere making it reject BT connections, but it connects fine with her FitBit. Never had this problem with her old iPhone 6.

In the car, it shows up as iPhone, but then says 'failed to connect'. Really *****.

I'm not sure if she has updated the very latest iOS, but if not I'll try that next. Hopefully this has been resolved and I'm just late to the party.

I believe people are referring to iOS 11.1; the latest update. This does not appear to be solving the problem reliably. Again, I think it's a BT 5 issue; there are some compatibility issues w/ BT 4. Regardless, problem is solved for me with downgrade to iPhone 7 (after lots of wasted time and little help from Apple). I think we all wish they would direct some attention to this issue as I would have liked to keep my iPhone 8 and it seems many others are in the same predicament. I did have a senior support tech agree to pass it on to engineering but have heard nothing back (and most likely never will). Good luck to everyone struggling to make it work as intended.

Strange it seems ......I found that if I put my iPhone 8 in my leather belt case and leave it there it will connect to my 2017 Jeep bluetooth radio OK almost every time. If it’s out on the seat or console tray with the protective case (Otterbox) it will connect and drop and reconnect repeatedly. None of the Apple fixes help at all so hope 11.2 will fix it. Oh yes, Jeep dealship show no updates to the radio firmware and iPhone 6 and 7 connect fine. So I agree it’s a Apple IOS issue.
