iPhone 8 bluetooth issues

My new iPhone 8 is having all kinds of wonkiness with bluetooth. It refused to pair with my AirPods, repeatedly dropped connection to my 2016 car, routinely loses connection with my series 1 watch and refused to connect to unlock my laptop (all things that I had no issues with before moving over from my iPhone 6). Apple support told me to erase all content, reset and go through a reinstall from a backup (and all the password re-entry etc.) which I did wasting a couple hours of my day. Their remote diagnostic said bluetooth was fine and some of my apps (none to be named) had problems necessitating this restoration from backup. Needless to say, the issue does not seem solved. Anyone else having bluetooth issues with the iPhone 8? All of these bluetooth connectivity issues worked flawlessly on the 6 (with iOS11 and all prior iterations I had) so I may just sent the 8 back and live w/ my 3 year old battery for a while longer.....

Okay, so I'm not crazy! My wife's iPhone 8+ refuses to connect at all with her Honda. I thought it must be a setting somewhere making it reject BT connections, but it connects fine with her FitBit. Never had this problem with her old iPhone 6.

In the car, it shows up as iPhone, but then says 'failed to connect'. Really *****.

I'm not sure if she has updated the very latest iOS, but if not I'll try that next. Hopefully this has been resolved and I'm just late to the party.

Right, so just updated to the latest iOS 11.1

Went out to the van and paired the phone to the media system and seeing the same issue as before.

The phone pair's OK but cannot make hands free calls, contacts list does not become available.

Going to test the iPhone 6+ later as that will be on the latest iOS also and was working before the upgrade to 8+, just want to see if its software or hardware! I'm thinking its hardware at the moment and may be that the 8+ has the latest Bluetooth which my van does not support, if that's the case it may never work if Renault don't update!!

I have the same problem!

Brand new iPhone 8 and the Bluetooth won’t stay connected to anything (watch, headphones, etc). It’s awful! I have friends who are hearing impaired and apple has been wonderful to connect their hearing aids to their phones and other essential devices. Some of them were thinking of upgrading to an iPhone 8... now I get to tell them, don’t you dare! Your quality of life will suffer... Apple please fix this!!!

Update, even though ios 11.1 on my 8+ seemed to help with the on-off-on connection to my 2011 Subaru Outback, I've found that if I turn off Bluetooth via the quick bar, it'll mysteriously turn itself back on when my car tries to find it (I do voice recordings in my car, and I prefer to do them into the iPhone mic instead of the car mic over bluetooth).

Having said all that, my wife's 8 (regular, not plus) with 11.1 is still having on-off-on issues on her 2016 Outback.

This is crazy.

I believe people are referring to iOS 11.1; the latest update. This does not appear to be solving the problem reliably. Again, I think it's a BT 5 issue; there are some compatibility issues w/ BT 4. Regardless, problem is solved for me with downgrade to iPhone 7 (after lots of wasted time and little help from Apple). I think we all wish they would direct some attention to this issue as I would have liked to keep my iPhone 8 and it seems many others are in the same predicament. I did have a senior support tech agree to pass it on to engineering but have heard nothing back (and most likely never will). Good luck to everyone struggling to make it work as intended.

I just wanted to comment on this thread, as I recently dealt with this issue. I even returned my iPhone 8+ because I thought it was broken. It would pair, but constantly disconnect from the car and not play music . Would happen over and over then it would stop pairing.

I have found a fix that works 99% of the time for me. If I put my phone in a bag, and then in my backseat it works fine. I think there was too much interference with my car and phone. I can’t have it near the stereo. I also noticed just setting it on my backseat didn’t work either. I actually had to put it in a bag (my leather purse) This may not be the solution for everyone, but worth a try. For the record I have a Mazda CX-9 . All other devices connect fine, including the iPhone 6, and Samsung products.

Im experiencing something very similar to what you have described. I had a ip6 and i also have a work ip6s with me. Never had an issue with bluetooth. Upgraded my iphone 6 due to battery issues to the ip8+, now i deal with bluetooth connection issues every day. I get asked every time if ive tried other devices etc.. YES! My work ip6s is still working perfectly with my devices. In fact I decided to go as far as getting a new ip8+. Im still waiting to see if the issue persists on this new ip8+. I had issues with the first ip8+ right out of the box so its crazy that I get asked if its my two headsets that are the issue...between bose, plantronics and apple im going to pin this on apple.

i also tried alot of bluetooth headsets and peripherals they all have the same issue with the iPhone 8 plus. specially if you connect 2 devices to the phone like i usually connect my bluetooth headset and my car's bluetooth so i can listen to music and when a phone call comes it goes to my headset. the iphone 8 plus keeps disconnecting the headset and reconnecting it every single minute that you get ****** and switch off your headset and stop using it. while with the iPhone 7 hhis worked out perfect without a single mistake not one issue.

Strange it seems ......I found that if I put my iPhone 8 in my leather belt case and leave it there it will connect to my 2017 Jeep bluetooth radio OK almost every time. If it’s out on the seat or console tray with the protective case (Otterbox) it will connect and drop and reconnect repeatedly. None of the Apple fixes help at all so hope 11.2 will fix it. Oh yes, Jeep dealship show no updates to the radio firmware and iPhone 6 and 7 connect fine. So I agree it’s a Apple IOS issue.

Mine definitely needs to be in my purse. I’ve noticed though it works best in my purse on the front seat. In my purse on the backseat seems to be problematic. I tried putting my phone in the leather pouch behind my chairs, that doesn’t work either. It’s very sensitive as to where it’s at, whether it works or not. But so far the best is my purse, front seat.

for sure its an iPhone 8 issue most probably software but in iPhone 8 cause i never faced the issue in iPhone 7 till i upgrade to the iPhone 8 plus then i started facing the issue. i hope it gets addressed very soon and gets fixed in a software update or i will go back to an iPhone 7 or maybe just go back to a samsung like i used it cause i really depend alooot on bluetooth and this issue made it frustrating

Nope. Sadly already tried 11.1.2 am on it and still the bluetooth is not fixed at all and till now its seems that the latest beta from 11.2 did not address this issue. let's just hope they address very soon as it's really frustrating. I advise everyone to go to apple store and call their support about this issue. they will not be able to fix it but at least when they see alot of people reporting it then they will actually notice and may consider to fix it asap for all of us. am personally going tomorrow to an apple store.
