iPhone 8 bluetooth issues

My new iPhone 8 is having all kinds of wonkiness with bluetooth. It refused to pair with my AirPods, repeatedly dropped connection to my 2016 car, routinely loses connection with my series 1 watch and refused to connect to unlock my laptop (all things that I had no issues with before moving over from my iPhone 6). Apple support told me to erase all content, reset and go through a reinstall from a backup (and all the password re-entry etc.) which I did wasting a couple hours of my day. Their remote diagnostic said bluetooth was fine and some of my apps (none to be named) had problems necessitating this restoration from backup. Needless to say, the issue does not seem solved. Anyone else having bluetooth issues with the iPhone 8? All of these bluetooth connectivity issues worked flawlessly on the 6 (with iOS11 and all prior iterations I had) so I may just sent the 8 back and live w/ my 3 year old battery for a while longer.....

Possible fix to some of the issues. We had an appointment at the Apple Store last night and discussed this issue with them. My wife's Ford Explorer was dropping the bluetooth out intermittently during phone calls and even when not in a phone call. Her watch would also disconnect at times. The weird thing was we discovered that she could play music and it would not drop out when streaming music through bluetooth. We told the Apple Genius that we had restored the phone from a backup several times and that did not fix the issue. The Apple Genius felt strongly that the backup had something corrupt about it so he suggested that we restore this as a new phone and not restore from the backup any longer. We had to manually save all of the photos and contacts to a hard drive before doing this. Once we restored this phone as a new phone, we then added all of the photos and contacts again from the hard drive. We also had to add all of the apps manually. Finally, we tested making phone calls several times and we have not had an issue once. This may help some of you in the future. It is a long process so be prepared for this to take a few hours depending on the amount of files that you have. Good luck!

Since upgrading to 11.2.5 (which specifically prepares iOS for HomePod!) my Bluetooth connection to speakers is RUBBISH. On previous release it was fine.

It’s not that I cannot connect, but the connection is simply unreliable, coming and going randomly, seeming to speed up and slow down, crackle and generally produce dreadful quality.

I hestitate to suggest (OK, no I don’t!!!) that this is something to do with AirPlay 2 and Apple constantly trying to do “better” with its proprietary protocols.

Could you just try to see that simple, standard communications methods work consistently?

I, too, think that it is an iOS issue with the Bluetooth version and various devices to which I try to pair my iPhone. My phone stays paired to my Apple Watch and Tile devices but cuts in and out on Bluetooth with my hands free car phone speakers. The folks at the Genius Bar are clueless. I have tried to pair the phone to two separate Motorola Roadster 2 devices and one Jabra Freeway device. The Bluetooth connection cuts in and out on all 3. It initially pairs for about 5 minutes then drops an immediately reconnects. Then disconnects.

My iPhone 5 would automatically know I was in my car and connect with my bluetooth radio. I just got an iPhone 8 and the bluetooth is working like crap. I installed the latest update to iOS 11 and it still won't automatically connect to my radio in my car. I need to go into Settings and manually tell it to connect. It never works the first time, it fails and I need to tell it to connect again. After the second try it will connect (usually), but I can't guarantee that it won't just drop the connection during a call or music. For the $900+ bucks I'm paying for this phone it should perform the basic functions my old phone did without any problems. I'm very unhappy about this. My advice to Apple is: Get the basics right before you add all the technocrap features.

You're so right. It is the most important Bluetooth connection I make (in fact one of the few). It is a safety and a legal issue (handsfree is mandated in my state and most others I suspect). Reliable bluetooth is mandatory. I've reverted back to my iPhone 6 and am returning the 8.

Funny thing is I also had issues with my new AirPods which worked seamlessly with my iPhone 6, my iPad and my MacBook Air.

I do have the same issues! In my case it is an iPhone 8plus (iOS 11.0.3) not working with an Mercedes C-Class (2015).

As mentioned by others, I also had an iPhone 6plus (iOS 11.0.3) which worked perfectly with my Mercedes. It definitely is a security issue, not only because of the temporarily missing handsfree function, but also because of the each time displayed "iPhone connected" message on the Cars display wich all few minutes pops up and is a distraction to the traffic. In my opinion it is quite obvious that it is an issue with the Bluetooth 5 implementation.

I am having this problem in my 2011 Subaru Outback. If I'm not actively using Bluetooth, the connection continually drops and reconnects (causing a distraction on my car's console display). Once I get Bluetooth connected and I'm using it for something, it's fine for that "thing," whether it's a podcast, phone call, music, whatever. But as soon as I'm done with it, the connection starts to flake-out again. I also have trouble connecting to my Logitech UE Boombox... Just yesterday I had to forget the device and re-pair.

I am also experiencing the same issue with my 2015 Ford Explorer. I purchased an 8+ last week, and immediately, during my first phone call via bluetooth, my phone calls dropped mid-call. Then, the call miraculously reconnects about 30 seconds later. My bluetooth worked fine with my old model 6.

I am updating my software to 11.1, and they told me to try my phone BT on a different car. If it continues to fail, I will be contacting them again tomorrow.

Right, so just updated to the latest iOS 11.1

Went out to the van and paired the phone to the media system and seeing the same issue as before.

The phone pair's OK but cannot make hands free calls, contacts list does not become available.

Going to test the iPhone 6+ later as that will be on the latest iOS also and was working before the upgrade to 8+, just want to see if its software or hardware! I'm thinking its hardware at the moment and may be that the 8+ has the latest Bluetooth which my van does not support, if that's the case it may never work if Renault don't update!!

Update, even though ios 11.1 on my 8+ seemed to help with the on-off-on connection to my 2011 Subaru Outback, I've found that if I turn off Bluetooth via the quick bar, it'll mysteriously turn itself back on when my car tries to find it (I do voice recordings in my car, and I prefer to do them into the iPhone mic instead of the car mic over bluetooth).

Having said all that, my wife's 8 (regular, not plus) with 11.1 is still having on-off-on issues on her 2016 Outback.

This is crazy.

i also tried alot of bluetooth headsets and peripherals they all have the same issue with the iPhone 8 plus. specially if you connect 2 devices to the phone like i usually connect my bluetooth headset and my car's bluetooth so i can listen to music and when a phone call comes it goes to my headset. the iphone 8 plus keeps disconnecting the headset and reconnecting it every single minute that you get ****** and switch off your headset and stop using it. while with the iPhone 7 hhis worked out perfect without a single mistake not one issue.
