Press up once press down once and then hold power on button until Apple logo . If not , take to Genius Bar so they can erase settings . I signed onto my find my iPhone or my Apple ID account and I erased my iPhone from there on my computer I then reinstalled the backup . You can try that , but longer process. That’s what I did when I didn’t know how to hard restart the iPhone 8 and it worked also for me

For the iPhone 8plus you have to try to do a hard restart. Do the following...

Press the volume up button once then press the volume down button once then right after press and hold the power button down until you see the Apple logo. This should work and you should take back to store and report issue or call Apple supp

Actually my father has fixed my phone problem which one of the steps was missing is, you are suppose to

make sure it is charging at the same time. Because that is what my dad did and from Apple support when

he calls how to fix it is doing a hard reset, by pressing down the volume up increases volume, and volume down quickly. When you done that then press down onto the wake and sleep button. Make sure to do this while charging and it works perfectly.

And I comprehend the person did not mention or added for those who had the same issue like I had with a frozen screen. You are suppose to do this while charging truthfully.

I had same issue as mentioned on iphone 8+ . after attempting to hard restart for 15 min, it finally recognized the process mentioned above to hard reset- (volume up quick, volume down quick, and hold power button for 15 seconds!) all functions came back after reset.

Worth mentioning that i had acess to my "widgets screen" and could lock and unlock phone. my messages app was "greyed" out like i had touched, but couldnt open anything else. could respond to txts via their notifcations window and use siri but nothing else.

I just had this happen too!

To fix it, I used Siri to turn on TouchAssist. I then tapped the circle, clicked 'device', 'more', then 'restart'. Hallelujah my phone rebooted and is fine now!! Phew!

I found I really had to hold and wait, well over 10 seconds. I had tried many times to reset, and it wasn't until I just held on for a count of 20 or so that it finally reset.

OK mine was similar but al little different as it happened when I activated the phone. I had to press up, press down and press the power and home button and hold them for about 30 seconds. This only seemed to work when it was plugged in to my computer.

Briefly push the volume up button.

Then briefly push the volume down button.

The push and hold the power button for 10 seconds, until the “apple” appears.

Wait about a minute and power up.

Delete the app that caused the screen freeze.

Mine was Yahoo sports .

You have to press the volume up button then the volume down button the. Press and hold the power button until the Apple logo. Also makes sure you do the most current update. This solved my prob

even i was facing this issue as my safari icon was greyed out as if i was touching it and unable to slide my home screen to left and right **,t i was getting notifications from whatsapp. so what i did was to restart my phone from assitive touch. Even with the new IOS 11.0.1 update the issue was not resolved. Can i know if your issue was resolved with the hard reset and is it advisible to hard reset as the phone is just two days old?

Same problem here... touch screen works everywhere except home screen. two nights in a row now. Brand new iPhone 8 only 2 weeks old.

I need to reset and then the screen works again.

It’s running ios11.0.1

Please fix ASAP or I am taking it back for a new phone.

Horse feathers. The title is correct The iPhone Home Screen is continuing to freeze. Just had the same problem on IOS 11.0.3 on iPhone 8s with a Highlighted Mail icon. And it took about 5-10 tries of the reset procedure before the phone would recognize that (and yes, longer than 10 seconds).
