Apple TV 4k laggy

Bottom line; The Bluetooth functionality of the new remote seems to be more susceptible to interference from other WiFi/BT devices in the vicinity. My answer was to turn off BT on my AVR which is right next to the ATV.

Correction: Switching to HDMI/ARC did not resolve the issue. But I think getting a new cable did resolve the problem. I was running on a $7 AmazonBasics high speed HDMI. I ordered a high speed Belkin HDMI cable from the Apple Store. Felt silly paying $30 for a cable, but it seems to have fully resolved the issue. Suggest you guys give it a shot. You can always return the cable if it doesn't help.

I disabled HDR and it seems to have fixed the problem for me. I returned my original Apple TV 4K thinking there was something wrong with it but the same issue happened on the 2nd one. Until I disabled HDR. Haven’t tried with new cables or different tv yet.

Mine is working perfectly now, after I got the Belkin HDMI cable from Apple. I had Airpods issues and an insanely laggy remote that worked better at 1080p. After plugging in the Belkin cable tonight, everything's running smooth as butter. It's kind of surreal how a cable can do this.

Shutting off the HDR worked perfectly. Apple need to sort this issue out immediately. I have Apple TV's in three rooms in the house but Amazon Firesticks are far cheaper and their HDR works correctly...

I had this same issue until I updated to the latest tvOS. It now seems to be working fine.

I had a similar issue. I resolved it by connecting my Apple TV 4K hdmi directly to the TV. Before I had the Apple TV 4k hdmi out into my receiver and then out to my TV.

May have resolved my issue, embarrassingly enough, moved the HDMI cable to the HDMI (ARC) port on the LG OLED55E7. Only the second HDMI port supports ARC. Seems good so far, will update if confirmed....

So far repairing the remote fixed this for me. I suffered through this for many months.

I am still waiting to confirm through longer term use.

I am also having this problem. The included physical Siri Remote just isn't fit for purpose; its laggy, sluggish, often disconnects, when scrolling to highlight an app it gets stuck/freezes for a second or two, then it can jump three more apps across rather than smoothly scrolling to adjacent app using one's thumb.

Its really not a great user experience for something that is meant to be defined by its user experience.

I did a factory reset more than once, no difference.

I thought at first it might be the settings, e.g the cable setting, then resolution (like on a PC), but alas it makes no difference e.g. Dolby Vision 30hz, 4K HDR10 60hz etc, (tried every combination). The picture is perfect and not the issue.

I moved the Apple 4K from a neat hidden area in a cupboard to out on display to direct line of site, 2 metres from the sofa and its makes no difference. I have the Apple TV 4th Gen is in the same place (in the cupboard) and had no issues whatsoever. This is definitely an issue peculiar to Apple 4K and the way its bluetooth remote communicates with Apple TV 4K. Be good to know what the update is on this...

You probably think I am taking a pixx or something, but I used a different HDMI cable and the problem is gone. I was using Amazon Basic one and the remote input lags, exactly what you described, I am not sure if it is the bluetooth range diminished or inteferred, all input seems buffered up for 1-2 seconds then it all execute in a burst. I replaced the HDMI cable with an unbranded HDMI (Came with Raspberry Pi started Pack) and no more lagging problem. Why would a cable solved a bluetooth issue? Seriously I don't know. I am gonna switch back to the Amazon basic HDMI cable to see if the problem comes back.

For me, I experience occasional lag with the remote when scrolling, inputting text or using Siri. However, I do not experience the same lag when using an iPhone as a remote – response and momentum are perfect.

This suggests to me that the problem is not an inherently laggy UI, but rather a laggy Bluetooth connection that somehow correlates with 4k output.

Perhaps the Bluetooth controller shares resources with the CPU/GPU, which are stressed when outputting 4k, whereas remote control from an iPhone is done over Wi-Fi, which might use a different set of resources unrelated to 4k output.

I had a 4k tv with my sony tv fine. Recently purchased 2 lg b7’s and 2 new Apple TV 4k for each. One was fine the other had this very issue. After reading through various answers I simply swapped two existing high speed hdmi cables. Same make.

Just go to settings and turn off HDR in the 4K settings. That will sort it immediately.

I do not know why Apple won't fix it. This is a software issue not hardware

It didn't take long for the issue to come back, so I took the advice of others on this post and purchased the $30 Belkin cable from Apple (was using an $8 high speed cable from Amazon). Seems to be running well now, some minor lag, but at least it's useable now. Hoping that the tvOS 10.2 update adds some improvement when it gets released. It looks like tvOS 10.2 will be doing lot less processing by displaying the content in its' native form.
