Apple TV 4k laggy

I brought my new Apple TV 4k last Friday on launch day, ever since I had weird lag issues with the controls, it happens in the home screen, settings, apps and even when scrolling the timeline in a movie or tv show, sometimes it can even "freeze" for 2-3 seconds before responding, it doesn't happen every time but it does happen often enough to notice it fairly easily. But beside that, to problem playing any apps or media, the all work fine, it only looks to be a problem with the remote. I tried a factory restore and it did not help.

Having the same issue. Also bought the ATV4k on Day 1, and the problem started immediately. Seems to work fine for a few minutes at a time, and then navigation lags and slows to near freezing. It makes navigation very difficult. I have this problem mostly on the home screen, but it also happens inside apps like Netflix, YouTube, NBC Sports, CBS, etc. Feels like what happens on a computer when the memory is full or when the CPU is throttled or overloaded.

It didn't take long for the issue to come back, so I took the advice of others on this post and purchased the $30 Belkin cable from Apple (was using an $8 high speed cable from Amazon). Seems to be running well now, some minor lag, but at least it's useable now. Hoping that the tvOS 10.2 update adds some improvement when it gets released. It looks like tvOS 10.2 will be doing lot less processing by displaying the content in its' native form.

You probably think I am taking a pixx or something, but I used a different HDMI cable and the problem is gone. I was using Amazon Basic one and the remote input lags, exactly what you described, I am not sure if it is the bluetooth range diminished or inteferred, all input seems buffered up for 1-2 seconds then it all execute in a burst. I replaced the HDMI cable with an unbranded HDMI (Came with Raspberry Pi started Pack) and no more lagging problem. Why would a cable solved a bluetooth issue? Seriously I don't know. I am gonna switch back to the Amazon basic HDMI cable to see if the problem comes back.

For me, I experience occasional lag with the remote when scrolling, inputting text or using Siri. However, I do not experience the same lag when using an iPhone as a remote – response and momentum are perfect.

This suggests to me that the problem is not an inherently laggy UI, but rather a laggy Bluetooth connection that somehow correlates with 4k output.

Perhaps the Bluetooth controller shares resources with the CPU/GPU, which are stressed when outputting 4k, whereas remote control from an iPhone is done over Wi-Fi, which might use a different set of resources unrelated to 4k output.

I have a 2017 LGTV 4k TV and have this lag with AppleTV 4k since day 1. A few weeks ago I replaced the HDMI cable with the Belkin from the Apple Store... the lag seemed to go away for a few weeks but now it is definitely back and just as worse as day 1.

The only difference in my setup is that I added a second HDMI cable for an old DVD player.

I’ve tried all sorts of settings, and changing AppleTV to 1080p gets it close to lag free. Good for the occasional laggy game but terrible for movies.

I’ll try moving things around and disconnecting things, maybe the foil will help 😕

After 2 weeks of contact with Apple support, their engineers admitted to some infrequent issues when not using a shielded HDMI cable. They recommended the Belkin they sell.

A quick google finds quite a lot of forum threads that discuss the “remote lag” issue and that the Belkin cable solves this, but I haven’t seen anyone answering why it works. Shielding is a reasonable answer.

I asked the support personnel to request that this issue is logged in their problem solving guide, and also communicated as a recommendation to customers as well as retailers - who sometimes bundle cables with the ATV 4K. He said he would take this up with his managers. He maintained that the problem was infrequent.

I had a 4k tv with my sony tv fine. Recently purchased 2 lg b7’s and 2 new Apple TV 4k for each. One was fine the other had this very issue. After reading through various answers I simply swapped two existing high speed hdmi cables. Same make.

‘And for some reason it’s suddenly fine.

‘So Apple tv4k is susceptible to some high speed cables but why is unknown.

I will post again if any problems are reoccurring
