Can't edit or share my iPhone photos

Hi,

Since upgrading to iOS 11, I've discovered some strange behaviour in the Camera and Photos app. Any photo which I have taken recently can't be edited or shared. (The icons are greyed out).

Anyone know why this is?

I can still share photos by going into the Messages app and attaching them, just not from the Camera or Photos app. I suspect that once I sync via wifi that makes the photos editable/shareable, but it is annoying to have to do this and not be able to edit them straight away. I suspect a mobile data setting, but no amount of playing around has been able to resolve it.

I have a 128Gb iPhone 6s, running iOS 11.0 (15A372). There's plenty of free space.

My wife is having the same trouble. She takes a photo that can be edited then just minutes later takes another that can’t be edited. It makes no sense. Restarting the phone makes no difference. Very frustrating.

A workaround, although not a solution necessarily, for those of us who like me, tried the "Solved" answer, and tried closing the photos app and restarting phone, neither of which worked, is to take a screenshot of the photo in question and work with that (share, edit, etc.). This was suggested in one of the answers but not really posed as a solution so I wanted to suggest that, as long as you don't need any of the "live" features embedded in that photo, since obviously a screenshot won't capture these.

No doesn't help or apply. My experience is 11.1 causes the issue. Photo's go to icloud unauthorized by the owner of the photos, fills up icloud 5Gigs fast, you get a warning and a threat from icloud/apple @4.90 Gigs allowed by apple/icloud-to either pay $1.98 at first or they will delete your property (the photos). To get your photos back you must take the no-choice option they require and log in to icloud by paying the $1.98 to download the photos you own held for ransom they literally stole.

Hello,

I installed the last version of iOS (11.2.1) on my iPhone 6 Plus and in my case the problem was solved, now at last I can edit and share photos from the Photos app and from the Camera. Previously I had iOS 11.XXX (iOS11 but I do not remember exactly which version) and I could not edit and share photos. Just in case: I do not use iCloud to backup my photos.

Best regards

I am having this problem too with 11.1.1 on iPhone7. I noticed that the photos which are not shareable/editable from the photo screen are not “Live” photos. Whats strange is that I have the Live Photo turned on in camera settings and that function is supposed to prevent the camera from auto resetting to Live photo each time and instead use my last setting, but that doesn’t always work...so wondering if anyone else notices this pattern on their version of this issue. I turned the live photo setting off and haven’t had the issue again yet but will see if that sticks.

11.2.1 and I have the problem on a photo I just took. Grey’ed send/edit buttons. Reboot doesn’t help. I had iCloud storage on when I took the photo(and optimize) but after turning them off, I still can’t send/edit the photo. Other photos work fine. Camera roll does now where the photo was taken, so at least some of the Exif data must be intact. Amazon prime photo app was able to both backup and then message the photo, so it is not totally corrupt. I guess less than 5% of my photos have this issue, so it is hard to diagnose. File appears to be .heic

This exact thing is happening to me. Take a photo, can edit. Take another, can’t edit. Take another, can.

I’m taking pics of the same thing, a page of text.

When I take a pic and successfully edit it, I go back to a previously uneditable pic, thinking maybe I’ve hooked back to iCloud or something but the previous pic is still not editable.

I’m on LTE.

I have that problem too. For me the most painful part that these photos are not life. I'm making lots of life-photos. It's completely different genre so still-image part does not make any sense without video part. It's very frustrating when I catch the rare moment hoping it will be recorded few seconds before and after but instead I'm getting this stupid still image with grayed out buttons.

Something terribly wrong inside Apple if they year after year deliver software which just does not work 😟

Waiting for other giants to pick up dropped baton of great UX (Microsoft, Google, anyone?..)

I agree this is a application defect which I've confirmed exists in iOS 11.2.5 and 11.2.4. Can't speak to previous versions but have gond back through images and suspect it began with 11.2.4.

Have tried rebooting and restoring to no avail. Defect persists and occurs regardless of whether using iCloud or local storage. And this defect seems to have incredible intelligence...knowing "exactly" which photo I wanted to share or edit and then removing that ability! 😉

I can't find any pattern to explain it - it's certainly intermittent and not related to iPhone 6/64GB phone orientation. I just took 3 photos within a few seconds of each other. The middle photo is the only one that can't be shared or edited.

I agree. This needs attention from Apple.
