Can't edit or share my iPhone photos

Same issue here, first time I’ve encountered it, took a couple of photos tonight and the first one has Edit and Share greyed out. Taking a screen shot of the photo results in an editable version so it can’t be content related voodoo.

11.2.1 and I have the problem on a photo I just took. Grey’ed send/edit buttons. Reboot doesn’t help. I had iCloud storage on when I took the photo(and optimize) but after turning them off, I still can’t send/edit the photo. Other photos work fine. Camera roll does now where the photo was taken, so at least some of the Exif data must be intact. Amazon prime photo app was able to both backup and then message the photo, so it is not totally corrupt. I guess less than 5% of my photos have this issue, so it is hard to diagnose. File appears to be .heic

@cwconnell, thanks for your suggestion, but this doesn't address the core issue at all, I believe. The problem is that randomly, pictures taken are view-only in Photos. You can't edit them for x period of time (also seemingly random). Once the photo becomes editable, the problem goes away for that photo.

I will be glad if this is bypassed by using Google photos (which I do use), and the next time it happens I'll do another check to see if opening the photo with Google Photos is a usable workaround.

  For months it has been a problem off and on - even before I got the iPhone X last year.

  Nope - have the issue both on Wifi and LTE

• When you open PHOTO APP and look at PHOTOS tab, does the status at the very bottom under the photo grid say "Last Updated XX min ago" or "Uploading XXX,XXX photos" or....?

  Sometimes it's uploading items, sometimes it says "last updated..." On the rare occasion that it says "Last Updated" or "Update complete", my photos and editing ability magically work as it should be... which makes me think that the problem lies in when it's constantly updating/syncing to the iCloud server with a very large library.

Same for me. I haven't found a pattern but around 10% of my pics I can't edit or share. ** dmw

This isn't an option if you can't sync to icloud photo library because, e.g., you don't pay for icloud and your photo library is too large to sync without paying.

I have iPhone 7 with 11.2.2 and still have this problem. I am able to do the screen-shot workaround and the email to myself workaround, but neither are ideal.

You Not going to like the answer; however, the answer is Google Photos. Try it out and beath easier. I know that not what anyone wanted to hear but for now, that is it!

It seems to be a random bug in the Photos app / on the OS based on all the answers I've seen. I am downloading iOS 11.4 right now, hopefully it will solve the problem

Thank you for your response, but I do not have iCloud Photo Library active on my iPhone and yet have encountered the same problem. I agree with others who are still having this problem, this issue is not solved.

my iCloud and iCloud sharing are both on - no change - even tried turning off & back on - I can take 3 pictures, 2 will let me edit & share, suddenly the 3rd won't - infuriating. Also have latest iOS on iPhone 7+

Actually, I’m finding that since a screenshot is still a photo that was “taken,” the problem carries over into those as well. Trying to screenshot and send someone said screenshot requires me taking the same shot 3-4 times and I can usually get one of those to work.

I am also experiencing this problem, despite having just updated to the latest iOS version on my iPhone 6s.

That a 1000$ phone displays these kinds of bugs is definitely unacceptable. The response we’ve gotten so far doesn’t help solving the issue in any way shape or form and sounds more like a joke than a real attempt of letting us edit and share our photos.

Are u using iPhone 8?

Me and my wife is having the same issue and both of us is using iPhone 8. My brother, iPhone X user, and my sister, iPhone 6s, does not have this issue. All of us are using the ios 11.2.1.
