Final Cut Pro X 10.3.4 (!) on High Sierra - crashing

Hi.

After upgrading (new MacBook Pro Touch Bar) to High Sierra, my Final Cut Pro X 10.3.4 (!!! - supposed to bo compatible with High Sierra) is crushing:

- when loading an existing library

- when loading an existing project

- when creating a new (empty) project

- when importing media files to a newly created library

In other words, nothing is working !

Obviously there are some issues with compatibility...

Any ideas ?

Solutions ?

Apple, R U working on fixing it ? - I'm sure other users report similar problems...

Will appreciate any feedback.

Thanks !

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS High Sierra (10.13)

This thread says you need to launch FCPX with the laptop open:

Does that work?

You may have reasons to do whatever you do, but you came here with a problem and ignore both Apple’s recommendations and the solid advice Tom has given you. If want help you should be able to listen to advice.

If you delete the application and install a fresh copy the preferences file remains. If it is corrupt you will crash again and again and reinstalling won’t help.

And ExFAT might work, but it is not what Apple recommends in the documentation, but you seem to know best.

I will surely try deleting the preference file. In the days of classic FCP that helped sometimes, sure. That is what you meant by "advice", right? Or do you mean "conflicts with other software"? Which would that be exactly, on a freshly installed notebook with nothing else on it? This isn't advice, it's half knowledge that is just given in any case and has nothing to do with the specifics here. And why do you talk about reinstalling? I never did any of that. You talk about reinstalling because you don't really read people's postings. Instead you just glance at it and then give standardized advice.

Or do you know for certain what deleting the preference file actually does? I assume that, among other things, it deletes the location of the standard library, your last project, certain folder locations etc. What exactly has that to do with my problem? FCPX is working fine as such. Under Sierra on my main machine, that is. With the exact same project and the same source files, that I recreated from scratch on the MBP. The only difference is High Sierra and the external hard drive.

And why do you think an exFAT external drive would be a problem? I said I added the media files from that hard drive to the project just fine. How would creating a compound clip be a problem all of a sudden? What exactly would that have to do with the HD format? Don't you think it would be a problem if macOS could handle exFAT drives, but FCPX couldn't? Do you think that's a feature?

I have bugs to with 10.3.4. When I launch sometimes my timeline is partial. Then I restart and its ok. Also, when I close and reopen app it lost my prior library(s). This is very frustration as I have to file, open, locate, etc! What is the deal? when are you going to fix these bugs?????

My problem is slightly different. I have 3 monitors, a Thunderbolt, a Samsung LS24F35 (Connected via Thunderbolt/Display Port with a Thunderbolt to VGA adapter) and a Samsung TV (Connected via HDMI) on a Later 2013 Mac Pro running OS X 10.13.1. When I start FCPx (10.3.4) it puts the A/V output on the Thunderbolt display instead of the Samsung TV. It worked properly until I updated to OS X 10.13.1 (I did not update to 10.13.0).

No matter what I do it will not put the A/V output on the HDMI connected display like it had been doing.

Frustrating when trying to show video to a customer.

Are you actually talking about A/V output, or using as a second display? (AFAICT one should not even be able to use a VGA monitor as A/V output)

Assuming the answer is yes:

Did you go into Preferences, and select which device to use as AV Output?

Assuming the answer is no (i.e., that you really wanted something like Show in secondary display->Viewers):

You have to do a little coercing via System Preferences->Displays->Arrangement.

If that is the case, let me know and I will tell you how.

Good luck on your wait, I was directed to a new version of the FCP program due to the difference on the way the movies are stored ..... so why wait for Santa ? Many Apple updates can not be installed until they work all the bugs out, month later, unless you rather keep your Mac USELESS.

The option I considered was not using FCP since my movies are home and personal and go to iMovies, but I rather work with FCP, much faster for me though I have other programs like SKYSOFT, MOVAVI, GOPRO STUDIOS ... iMovies is great for TRAILERS.

I am also having issues. While I am editing the curser just freezes, and doesn't allow me to continue until I force quit the program.

It's happening every few minutes and I don't know what to do. 3 days ago it was working perfectly, just yesterday it started having issues.

Any suggestions? I updated to the latest High Sierra software, so I assume it had something to do with that?

Really need this program for work projects. :/
