Iphone 7 plus blurry screen when using phone mode

When I try and use my phone normally the screen comes up very blurry, you can see it is the most recent contacts black and red, missed calls, etc, just no way to do anything with the screen. I can use Siri and call that way but the other is not legible at all. Anyone have suggestions?

The restart worked. I turn off my phone every night and the next day the blurry was back. I’m afraid to try the restore. Need Apple to fix this problem with an update or let me go back to a previous IOS version.

I have the iphone8 and am having same issue. Happened few times last several weeks and again yesterday & day before. Very random. Also having issues when I type a text phone goes black for a second & text I was typing is gone. Just got rid of 6 that had the issues with battery like what happened with 6s. Because not the s version wouldn’t replace the battery so I had to pay for it. Apple really needs to address all these issues or people are not going to be so loyal to them. Hoping our x’s we get this week don’t have this issue!

I have found it happens when there are too many pages left open in the background. Just because you push the home button, doesn't mean the pages close. From the blurry phone screen, push the home button twice, one time right after another. You should be able to see several pages still open. Swipe up from the bottom of each page to close them, then try getting your phone screen again. It is a little bit of a pain in the butt, but easier and faster than trying to reset or even reboot. It worked for me.

Good point. It may take a while to identify if it's resolved. However, my guys were getting the issue multiple times a day. Force quitting Phone app resolved it temporarily. I updated both devices to iOS11.1 and I'm crossing my fingers, but I also happened to notice that each of them had a problem with visual voicemail. That wound up being the only common factor I could find between them. I reset the voicemail password and the visual voicemail issue resolved itself within about 20 min.

Fingers crossed!

This issue is unquestionably a software issue. I have every expectation that a restore and setup as new (not restoring from backup) would completely resolve the issue... however the reason we're all checking this forum is because we're looking for a way to avoid that cumbersome process. And, if you seek support from Apple, being a former Apple Genius myself, I can tell you that the restore and setup as new is the end-all cure that they'll offer. Though, of course, seeking help from the source is never a bad idea... just be prepared that they likely won't have a simple fix for you.

Furthermore, by reading this forum, you'd think that this is a wide-spread issue that affects every iPhone user. However, that's simply not the case. We represent a very small percentage of iPhone users who've ever even heard of this issue. I've already seen about a hundred iPhones running iOS 11 or later and these two with which I'm currently working are the only ones that have exhibited this issue. And though they are two completely different devices for which I can't seem to glean any other commonalities between them, there is one big commonality that I can't ignore... they're both used by the same person (one is a work phone and the other is a personal phone).

So, yes, lets all keep troubleshooting and helping each other find some solution for this problem or what might be causing it. But lets also keep our heads and not start spouting absurdities (like "buy an android" - yuck), simply because we likely only represent an infinitesimal fraction of users who have found an anomaly with iOS 11.

So you the boss here? Think that you can tell people what they can and can not say? I don't appreciate you calling my writing absurd. It was a joke man, lighten up. An android is a fine product. Many think it is superior to iOS

You don't have enough data to make the statement ...very small percentage... Just because the "hundred" that you have seen has not reported the problem doesn't mean that they have not or will not experienced the problem. Nor do you know what people not in your sphere of influence have experienced. There could be millions of people who have visited this post looking for a solution to their blurry screen but not commented and we have no data on that.

There is no guarantee that the process that you mentioned will solve the problem.

People like to choose the easy solution which in this case is to restart the device or perhaps they learned to close and restart the app on their own and not bother to report it to you or apple. This is why I have been encouraging people to contact Apple so they know how many people are having this problem.

You may be on to something with your observation that only one person is having this problem. My magnetic personality has been known to mess up electronics. Perhaps their are others like me.

Apple Genius, that cracks me up every time I hear it. What marketing genius came up with that?

I was hoping that you'd read a lighter tone with my "yuck" comment. I very much intended it to be a jokingly sincere comment, as Android is obviously not my preference and I try to temper calls to leave Apple's ecosystem. As it turns out, it does seem that I have inadvertently offended you with my comment, for which I do sincerely apologize. I certainly don't mean to come off as didactic to you or be a "boss" to anyone in this discussion, but I certainly am an authority on iOS matters, having been professionally trained by Apple at their headquarters in Cupertino. (I won't dig in further on this point, but I will point out it was Steve Jobs himself who was the marketing genius you referred to.)

On the point of not having "enough data to make the statement," I can safely say that I do have enough data to make this statement by virtue of the sheer lack of data about this issue. After scouring the internet and Apple's own internal service documents, this thread and one other post on an AT&T forum are the only places I've found any mention of a problem like this whatsoever. Even the dreaded autocorrect "I" issue, which became present in the recent 11.1 release, only affected a small percentage of users, but was still significant enough to find copious amounts of data on the topic almost immediately, including Apple's own support document about the problem. Our issue doesn't seem to have even a remotely similar magnitude.

Also, there is a guarantee that this is a software issue, by virtue of the fact that force-quitting the app resolves the problem temporarily, and all software issues can be resolved by doing a full restore and setup as new of the iOS device. Period. The point I was making is that this is not an ideal solution for most users, so we're looking for an alternative. If you feel so emboldened, put it to the test. Or take it to Apple and have them put it to the test. In my previous reply, I specifically mentioned that I did not discourage people from taking this issue to Apple. I was simply advising that we, as a community, could continue to troubleshoot together to find a less invasive solution for ourselves.

As for me, this will be my last post on this topic as I have no interest in further engaging your temper for what I thought was a collaborative effort. Reply if you must, but remember your audience will only be other users who are earnestly just looking for a solution for what I hope will only be a short-lived problem.

Thank you very much and have a nice day.

This happens on my iPhone 8+ and on my wife's as well. I spoke w/ apple support about it yesterday and they suggested I update to 11.1. I had not noticed that a rev past 11.03 was out, my bad. Tried the update and had some crazy "update failed validation" because I was "not connected to the internet" non-sense. This while I could still surf... That bizarreness continued for about 5 hours then went away, after which the 11.1 updates for my iPhones and iPad worked. So far 1 day after the 11.1 update the dreaded blurred out iPhone app has not recurred. As this appeared to start with IOS 11.0, I hope that it has finally been killed off. TBD

I personally think it is a very large issue, there are more hidden bugs that Apple knows about and are working on but unable to fix yet. Another issue with mine is when texting and I hit the arrow back button to text another person the current person I am texting rolls up several messages back immediately, very frustrating. Not only do I have to roll it back down but also have to hit the return twice to get the opportunity to select another person to text. Regarding the blurry part, well nothing has really worked yet, I just deal with it. I have found if you press the home key twice to get rid of the open windows, if you get rid of them all and press the phone key "sometimes" it comes back clear and ready to select a recent caller and dial out. One thing for sure is I will be glad when this gets fixed as I also get a million emails concerning this issue. Part of progress I guess. Thanks to all who have tried. ~rcj1960

It is happening to a lot of people. Android beta tests there updates and never has an issue on a global scale nearly every update. It’s ridiculous. People wait in line for

For a new iPhone that is nearly the same as the last. I use both iOS regularly and iPhone is only better in aesthetics and sound stability. Android has everything else. Hands down. That’s why Apple makes a big deal of a new phone to create the must have illusion so more people get in line. It’s just silly. Why doesn’t Apple take more pride in there product. Why?

Nov 10, 2017 1:59 PM in response to IndysDad

In a throw away world created by greed and the large corporation it’s all about the sale after that you get minimal change because we keep purchasing a less than mediocre engineered device with constant issues but still pay outrageously for that. So Apple says, why change it if it works for us who cares if it works for you so they come out with a new phone to sidetrack you from the old issues and introduce you to your new issues.
