iPhone calendar freezes in IOS 11
When adding an event in calendar, if you try to add a location, the screen locks up and you have to force close the app. I have done a complete reset and download of IOS 11 and still have the problem.

I have now found this exact problem on two Ipad Airs and Air 2, as well as my 6s IPhone. If you add an event to your calendar and then try to type in a location, the calendar will lock up and has to be forced closed to clear. For example, try typing in “test” as an event and then try to add a location by typing any letter in the “location” box. All my devices will immediately lock up the calendar at this point. This situation started with the latest IOS incremental update as far as I can determine.
Apple support suggested I reinstall the operating system, but that did not correct the problem.
I have the exact same problem. I enter the box for location and the app freezes. I have to save the event first so I don’t lose the person and time. Then I have to go back in and edit the event go into the location field and enter the first few letters i.e. Dr. .... and I have to wait literally for 15 minutes for it to unfreeze. I am using a brand new iPhone X. This does not occur on my new IPad Mini.
Why is this happening to so many people for such a long time. Same thing happened on my IPhone 6S.
Please advise. This cannot be considered a “business machine” with this flaw. Huge time waster.
Thank you,
Carlos
It appears that IOS 11 locks up when an address is being added to an appointment because the device is trying to scan the entire address book looking for a match to the first letter of the address. This is why entering “Z” shortens the lock up duration. Apple, can you lighten up on the predictive spelling until you work out the details? The unintended consequence is a longer wait instead of a shorter one. Thanks.
FWIW, this occurs on MacBooks using the latest version of High Sierra as well. I hope this isn’t a repeat comment however, don’t have time to go through 11 pages of comments, just like I don’t have time to wait to insert a location in the calendar. Sad that Apple has not addressed what I believe to be a very significant drain on user productivity.
Thanks for chiming in. I did try a suggestion as a temporary fix and it helped somewhat. Put a zzz at the beginning of the location. It should populate faster.
This of course is NOT a replacement for a properly functioning and simple task.
Good luck!
I have the same issue and while the ZZ search workaround is ok it is time for the Apple team to fix up the poor code causing the “intuitive” search to hang so that it searches In the background. Can someone from Apple confirm this is in there system as a know issue/bug. I add 10-20appt a week and all require addresses so I waist 10sec per hang 10x20 = 2min a week x users effected.

Mine is working fine but several others have reported problems similar to yours. Try the following:
Delete the Calendar App and download it again from the App Store.
Thanks. I have now submitted the bug report to Apple per your suggestion.
I'm having serious problems with the Calendar app: Bug iOS 11 Calendar - YouTube
I couldn’t get this video to play with any sound?
Actually, I gave up!
I'm using Google Calendar app and must say that is far more interesting and useful than the native one.
Didn’t work for me either!!!
I just installed iOS 11 and have the same problem. Any solution? Thanks.
This just happened to me on my MAC mini. I entered one character and the pinwheel started spinning and wouldn't stop. Had to do a hard shutdown
