We have two MAC book pro's from the same period/2013. Both upgraded to High Sierra (now 10.13.2). Both had logic board and display replaced recently. Only one of them freezes very often - yet, it did not freeze until the upgrade to High Sierra. Newest upgrade to 10.13.2 didn't help that one either. Every time I took it to Apple, it works fine and they find nothing wrong! Not sure what to conclude.

Tried this, and having the same problem in safe mode. Once the MacBook Pro begins the process of going to sleep, everything locks up, the fan runs high speed, and powering down the machine is the only way forward. This only happens on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro with Intel Iris Pro 1536MB graphics, and this MacBook Pro is bound to my work domain. I have the same problem when I'm on the domain at work as I do off the domain at home.

I use a personal mid-2012 MacBook pro with Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB, and this person machine is not bound to a domain. No problems on this machine.

I get the same problem when I close the work laptop to move around the office. I have to boot after each lid closing. Killing my productivity.

Having exactly the same issue. I have been to the "genius" aka clueless bar almost 3 times now and they couldnt find out what the issue is. They did checks on the hardware and it all passed. Anyways I could sense they were getting fed up with my presence and they started showing me prices of repairing a motherboard. I am sure that is their get out of jail card.. saying there is a problem with the motherboard. How can a software update damage a laptop's motherboard and if this is the case shouldn't apple be paying for it....

Before it froze the fan just went into full speed. I was not running anything crazy. Just the browser. I rebooted. It took lots of time to bring the login page. Hope they find a solution/quick fix for that.

I did have the same issues before Sierra was released but with Sierra I had no freezes anymore. Since High Sierra I am now back to regular freezes. At least daily, especially when I move the laptop. Annoying, ...Apple please fix!

I made a brave move last week. I ordered myself new MBP since my old mid-2014 MBP became 3 year old and 3 years is the time in my country when Employer is allowed to replace tools without tax ramification.

So the new MBP will be Mid-2017 model with Radeon 560 graphics. The laptop probably comes with High Sierra pre-installed so I'm gonna give it a go again in my use (where the mid-2014 model froze 5-6 times a day)

Luckily Mid-2017 model originally came with Sierra pre-installed so when it starts freezing I still have the Sierra escape route. Next model after this probably does not have that route anymore.

Apple, *** did you do, since High Sierra the Cooler goes up and down for no reason, system stops/freezes several times a day esp. when moving the laptop. Fix it! It was ok in Sierra, before Sierra same issue.

I got my laptop back from the apple store and they said they "think" the issue is with the logic board and I have to pay 558 pounds to repair it.

I am just so confused how a software update can damage a logic board. So angry right now

I tried updating the nvidia drivers and my macbook pro 2013 would basically freeze during reboot for like an hour, so i gave up and did a SMC reset and went back to the original drivers and the 3-10 freezes a day 😟

As a recent Mac convert, I am pretty much flabbergasted at the level of incompetence at Apple HQ.

I am having the same issue where my MacBook Pro 2012 freezes after some time or when it goes to sleep . It is so annoying to restart the MacBook for this issue.

Hope apple comes with some solution soon.

Well I have exactly the same laptop with the same issue. Took it to the genius bar and they couldnt find out what was wrong and in the end they blamed it on the logic board. They said i need to pay over 500 pounds to replace the logic board. So fed up with apple, they are starting to lose it, if only steve jobs was alive! Tim cook just a business man that cares only about money and not about innovation.

After one full weekend of use, I can confirm that High Sierra on mid-2017 MBP with latest updates do not suffer the same issues as mid-2014 MBP does. The biggest difference in the two being Radeon Pro 560 GPU on the mid-2017 vs. nVidia GeForce 740M on the mid-2014.

Or atleast three days was not long enough to experience a freeze.

Yes that makes sense because what i think is going on here is, while apple was developing this operating system they were only testing with the latest laptops. They clearly didnt do sufficient indepth testing with the older models.

I have the same problem - random freezes mouse locks up, and last week i had to reinstall the os because it wouldn't run at all just had the beachball. i have a macpro with ati radion 5770. Maybe i need a new display board.
